The best thing about this specific piece on top of being a remix of Schubert's Erlkönig is that it was composed by Lappy, who is known for having made many fan-made themes for Arknights, which is just the cherry on top for me.

That was also Franz Liszt's birthday. And Liszt was a student of Carl Czerny. If you've read The Lingering Echoes then you'd understand the reference here.

I’m going to show this song to my music theory professor because he talked about Der Erlkönig to explain through-composed music in one of the music theory classes and I think he’ll appreciate it seeing classical music being remixed into a modern setting where a lot of people can enjoy it (he also uses metal music to explain music theory concepts, so I have a feeling he might show this off in said theory class)
No one has mentioned it yet but this event has an interesting mechanic added to it: you can compose your own music in it using sheets you get as battle drop items..depending on the sheets used the tone of the piece changes..after you compose it you have to gift it to a customer..this is the reason why this event alone has 30 different bgms..also I'd like to recommend listening to the boss 2nd phase battle theme of this event..it's shorter than the epic Erlkönig remix but it's amazing in its own right

Arknights is a great game, or rather a great story with a game attached... but I wouldn't recommend to anyone who isn't looking for a hard read. Not just because it's massive, but because a great deal of it is quite tragic. And while it's hopeful in many other spots, and many situations are improved by the end of things... it's very much a struggle in most cases, and often a costly one.
small correction: Zwillingstürme is a combination of "Zwilling" and "Türme". So it translates to Twin-Towers, not Twin-Storms. The "s" in there makes it easy to mix up. So, "Zwillingstürme im Herbst" translates to "Twin-Towers in autumn" The Twin-Towers here are an important thing in the Arknights lore and are holding a very big historical significance.
Arknights values education. introducing classical songs, classical culture, classical history, to the younger generation in a sophisticated way and every year, arknights celebrate the students completing their exams by giving them a song.
Fun facts (minor spoiler alert): This event is taken place in Leithanien, a country that has a very deep musical culture and is known for music arts, which merges their magic into their instrumental performance, and there are many classical music references in it One of the important character in this event, Ebenholz's (the character in Ständchen) real name is Franz, supposedly a reference to Franz Schubert, and he's heavily related to the Witch King There are other references of famous composers appeared in the story, The most well known University in the country is named Ludwigs-Universität Einwald, taken from Ludwig van Beethoven. One of the town is named Bach, taken from Johann Sebastian Bach There is also a character named Mr Hoffmann, I assume it is a reference of E. T. A. Hoffmann etc. A small section of Chopin's Revolutionary Etude is used in one of the game mode Leithanien is presumably based around Austria-Germany, which Hypergryph chose to reference composers from it
Well, given it takes its name from the river Leitha (a tributary of the Danube) which was the traditional border between Austrian and Hungarian lands... "The placenames Cisleithania, Transleithania and Lajtabánság are all derived from the Leitha River. After the Austro-Hungarian Compromise of 1867, which created the Dual Monarchy, _Transleithanien_ ("beyond the Leitha") was the Viennese colloquial word for the region beyond the Leitha (meaning Hungary or the Kingdom of Hungary), while _Cisleithanien_ ("on this side of the Leitha") denoted the Austrian lands. These names reflected the Viennese and Austrian perspectives towards the rest of the Empire, because Vienna lay on 'this' side, and the other half, Hungary, lay on 'that' side." - Wikipedia It's a _bit_ subtler reference than the extinct state of Gaul (whose last Emperor was one Corsica III if memory serves, totally not invoking Napoleon III you guys) but not by much.
@@broadbandislife It was Corsica I, actually. The Battle of the Four Emperors is a very on-the-nose reference to the Battle of Austerlitz, which was known as the Battle of the _Three_ Emperors.
Nice to see that "totally not romantic era Germany" keeps up the classical music tradition. I can still remember each stanza of Erlkönig. We had to memorize both the original by Goethe and the musical version by Loewe in 7th grade. Similar to the poem, no German student can escape the Erlkönig.
Austrian here, love Franz Schubert's work, we learned about *a lot* of classical music in school and this really more than does it justice, I love what was done with the music here and the reaction and breakdown was great as well
I love how they connect music to regions in the game. Ebenholz and Viviana are from the same place, Leithanien (which is basically Germany-Austria). Now if you go to Laterano (Vatican) you have character themes that we like to call "catholic dubstep"
Loved getting your knowledge on this and the Earl king as the main villian in this event is called the Witch King who was known to conduct experiments on whole populations of towns of his own people to further understand Originium(rock cancer that gives stronger magic powers). Which makes me feel like a lot of Leithanian lore is built off these musical pieces!
What I heard about this event, those music from old Era/classic. And f*cking damn neat. Battle theme & boss theme is damn mind-blowing Especially because of the mechanics of game, it has 3 versions. They're really cook too much
HAHA, I was about to suggest this music in general chat yesterday but I thought it would be better to do so once the official version dropped, which should be in a few more days. I knew you were going to love this. To add a little more, this theme has 3 different versions referred to as weak, normal, and strong, apparently, it changes depending on the boss's state. It seems like the story about the Earl King has somewhat influenced the story of the Witch King, the antagonist of this event. This new event is packed full of some really wonderful music, I've seen some people say that the Lobby theme feels similar to Fur Elise or Chopin's Nocturne, one of the new character ep mashes both Lethnien (classical) and Laternao (dubstep) motifs and so on and so forth. Loved your singing at the start of the video and I hope you have an amazing day! Waiting for Marco to cosplay Witch King day 1
If I had a nickel for every time the Arknights ost used one of Schubert's pieces, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it's happened twice.

I know nothing about Arknights, but the last couple of tracks that I have heard is making me want to look into it. It has some real awesome tracks and this is definitely one of them.
Arknights has a lot going for it and I know people who play for all sorts of reasons. I personally play the game for story and worldbuilding. It's definitely an amazing game and its constantly working to polish itself in various ways.

Playing the game is entirely subjective stuff and i wouldn't recommend Arknights to most of my friends not even because it is tower defense or even because it is a gacha game but because it is a huge visual novel with insane word count. And btw writing and translation is not... the best you can get in literature. Having said all that, i still enjoy it as i really love piecing together lore and worldbuilding elements, it really shows that authors do know and love world history.
I mean I won’t say the writing is high art, and obviously everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I’d say the recent is actually very good for the most part, especially considering how some other games translations are. I do hope you give AK a try at some point but we are also getting endfield in the future (spin off game) and I hope they continue with amazing osts during that game.
8:03 I feel like this works like this due to the pacing feeling like it is increasing, and the somewhat eerie feeling from the accompanying violin. It goes fro a warm kinda space to a cold and dark space, where you can just feel that something isn't right and there is some danger you can't see. A strong feeling of tension, suspense, and unease even without any baseline information. This resolves into a certainty of danger and a resolution to press through the storm aroung 9:05.
the music for this event absolutely blew me away, i think it might be because the region is leithanien again lmao i really think the world and lore of arknights is something special, i really wish i could recommend it to more of my friends but the amount of reading is quite the hurdle haha anyways always great to see more arknights here, i hope endfield (the spin off) is good and becomes successful and brings more attention to arknights!
coming back to comment again the soundtrack for the event was just uploaded by MSR not long ago and this song is actually titled "Der Hexenkonig" thought that was neat and the other song mentioned in my comment yesterday is "Underneath the Spires" maybe also check out "The Theme (variant)" there are two versions of The Theme, the Imperial one is the mix used for the actual boss fight (there are other variations of that in game that tie into the event mechanic) and the Variant one is from the event PV
The moment we found out it was a lethanian event I knew it was a matter of time til chat got these songs to Marco. Looking forward to your reaction to the rest of the ost from the event

I don't know if you will listen to (because its not expecificaly a game, its an based on games webcomic) but it has an entresting ost if i can call it like this , the name is homestuck and like 70% of the ost is made by toby fox (undertale creator) i recomend listening to "oppa toby style" and "savior of the waking world" I like your content amd discovered your channel by the calamity terraria tracks , keep up with the good content
Please listen to the Capcom Version from the "Beat Down: Fists of Vengeance" game, that was my first time hearing Der Erlkönig and is GREAT, the track is called "Mafia King"
If you don't like the og Arknights, there will be a spin-off game called Arknights Endfield and you should definitely play that when it get released...
As I have not seen anyone say anything specfic about where the event is taking place (except that it is in Leithanien which is "basically" Germany-Austria) I wanted to lose some words about it which might interesst you (without any spoilers of course) Leithanien has a special way in which they use arts (Arknights "magic", not sure if you know about it or not) as their arts are a combination of arts with music, meaning they use arts by playing music (which goes hand in hand with them renowned for their classics). Even their constitution, the "Güldenesgesatz", is an art manifested by their national anthem. So one could say that music is Leithaniens greatest power, metaphorically and quite litteraly
I really recommend you trying Arknights. Game lore is very important as probably evident by comment section under those videos. HG aka devs are also going full in on world building and immersion by adding German and Russian Voice Acting to characters from regions inspired by those countries. Something a lot of us were expecting when they out of nowhere added Italian Voice Over to few Siracussan operators.
A little correction on the translation of "Zwillingstürme" at 3:37. It is not "Twin Storms" (Zwillings 𝐬türme) but "Twin Towers" (Zwillings Türme), in Autum .I'm yust gonna leave that here.
I learn so much about classicals and stuffs from u especially when u make a reaction video of songs/game music from a game I really love. ❤️ I wanna see a reaction video about the battle theme 01 or titled “Underneath the spires” from MSR ❤ coz that’s my favorite bgm among those released musics from its event
This is my problem with Arknights battle themes - I usually fail the stages when a good theme starts to kick in (which are *many* of them), because I want to listen to it for longer, lol As for you playing the game yourself.. Honestly, I believe you have enough patience (including because of your line of work) to get over early boring chapters to those where difficulty and fun starts to pump up, and the game starts to kick your ass. As for the event with this soundtrack - we should get it in Global in 6-7 months. Not too soon, not too distant.

I do hope you give AK a try at some point but we are also getting endfield in the future (spin off game) and I hope they continue with amazing osts during that game.
He already gave it a try. The gameplay wasn't his cup of tea though, so he stopped.
@@dindapriska did he? Huh. Yea it sucks that ak is a great game but niche genre of game
There it is!! I even commented on the RiverV, Let's GOOO!! This is absolutely a headbanger. Just sheer epicness alone is amazing :D
Wow. Marco singing in an Arknights review video? Double blessing. Cheeres!
Hope you enjoyed it!
@@MarcoMeatball I did! And I sincerely hope to see more of your spectacular skills in future videos!
Nice analysis (and reaction) as always. Thank you Marco!
Wow this is so coincidental, we’re learning about this piece in my introductory music theory course
I suggest you to listen to every new Arknights ost from new event called "zwillingstürme im herbst", especially Battle Theme #1
Erlkönig is a ballad i had to learn lmao. But from a language standpoint not a musical.
Edit: in my city you can even go to an erlkönig statue
I think you should also check out the first battle theme for Zwillingstürme im Herbst, it has a lot of vocalization and is pretty neat
the music for this event absolutely blew me away, i think it might be because the region is leithanien again lmao
i really think the world and lore of arknights is something special, i really wish i could recommend it to more of my friends but the amount of reading is quite the hurdle haha
anyways always great to see more arknights here, i hope endfield (the spin off) is good and becomes successful and brings more attention to arknights!
coming back to comment again
the soundtrack for the event was just uploaded by MSR not long ago and this song is actually titled "Der Hexenkonig"
thought that was neat
and the other song mentioned in my comment yesterday is "Underneath the Spires"
maybe also check out "The Theme (variant)"
there are two versions of The Theme, the Imperial one is the mix used for the actual boss fight (there are other variations of that in game that tie into the event mechanic) and the Variant one is from the event PV
The moment we found out it was a lethanian event I knew it was a matter of time til chat got these songs to Marco. Looking forward to your reaction to the rest of the ost from the event
I heard this song and immediately thought of you. So glad you got to talking about this song. I studied Erlkönig in academic decathlon and it's been one of my favorites ever since.
Erlkönig somehow have a very special place in my heart from just the nonstop hammering(?)
i like when you speek german sounds realy good (i am german (bavarian) )
Arknights is unhinged and im loving every second of it 😂
The title is Zwillings - Türme which means twin towers but thats a really easy one to fall for.
As much as I love Arknights’ music I do agree with your point, it DOES get too intense lol.
Thanks for the lessons and the insight Marco!
Glad you notice new banger this quickly!😁
Love your Arknights content 🔥
Hey you were fast on this one like it hasnt even been a few days! I was excited about your insights on this song!
Hoping you would hear the same event's Battle theme 01 as it features a quartet vocals and Boss Battle theme as it has 3 variations, best if you go for the notmal version first.
What a speed. The event was released less than a week.
Lappy makes really great music. I love their Lord Of Ashes
Fucking love the Erlkönig
I don't know if you will listen to (because its not expecificaly a game, its an based on games webcomic) but it has an entresting ost if i can call it like this , the name is homestuck and like 70% of the ost is made by toby fox (undertale creator) i recomend listening to "oppa toby style" and "savior of the waking world"
I like your content amd discovered your channel by the calamity terraria tracks , keep up with the good content
I would love for you to introduce this to your musical colleagues to get their opinions and thoughts.
Please listen to the Capcom Version from the "Beat Down: Fists of Vengeance" game, that was my first time hearing Der Erlkönig and is GREAT, the track is called "Mafia King"
Seeing you are a fast one, once i heard it had the Erlkönig in it i thought of you lol
If you don't like the og Arknights, there will be a spin-off game called Arknights Endfield and you should definitely play that when it get released...
Quick someone bring Lappy over here
As I have not seen anyone say anything specfic about where the event is taking place (except that it is in Leithanien which is "basically" Germany-Austria) I wanted to lose some words about it which might interesst you (without any spoilers of course)
Leithanien has a special way in which they use arts (Arknights "magic", not sure if you know about it or not) as their arts are a combination of arts with music, meaning they use arts by playing music (which goes hand in hand with them renowned for their classics). Even their constitution, the "Güldenesgesatz", is an art manifested by their national anthem. So one could say that music is Leithaniens greatest power, metaphorically and quite litteraly
Lingering Echoes will soon rerun on global, if you are drawn to Arknights by the Leithania stories and themes
i see erlkönig, i click
Now we wanted to see how would you react to Arknights EP:Revealing
Hypergryph cooks too much in every aspects for CN 4.5 anniversary that they lit up the whole kitchen
No worries he said he'll be playing Endfield in the comment section of gameplay Demo 2
I wanna see a reaction video about the battle theme 01 or titled “Underneath the spires” from MSR ❤ coz that’s my favorite bgm among those released musics from its event
impressive how many languages you can speak/sing
I think there's 3 version of the song in the event
You're probably thinking of the boss theme 🤔
@@hessianqrow7977 indeed
okay so the witch king is definitely getting resurrected somehow in this event right
The opposite..he was put to rest for once and all
You sing so beautiful.
And your German is pretty good.
This is my problem with Arknights battle themes - I usually fail the stages when a good theme starts to kick in (which are *many* of them), because I want to listen to it for longer, lol
As for you playing the game yourself..
The theme still plays if you pause the stage, I sometimes just let a theme play like that if I enjoy it.
Arknight's songs are far less famous for their quality...
I hope more people listen to Arknights' songs
OH DIESE SONNE!
Sorry, this is from Der Freischütz.
Hey man, you should check out Pieta’s boss theme from Lords of the Fallen. It’s called “Stigmata” and is honestly such an incredible piece.
It really is!
I basically Instantly clicked on this good Lord
GLAD U BRANCHED OUT TO ARKNIGHTS! u should listen to frostnova (requiem) and lullabye
He already has done those two I believe
Branched out? lol. I have many arknights videos
Der Erlkönig was basically a failed escort mission
Would like to see you cover the boss theme as well
If you aren’t familiar with them I’d love to see your opinions on the song libera me from hell from Gurren Lagan and the anime Your Lie in April
Espero el nivel en una aniquilacion dios te lo pido
gotta put into perspective that it is a boss theme, so it needs to be separated in boss phases
It's a regular battle theme
a regular battle theme with phases, i play arknights, the stages all have waves with different sizes, working like a boss battle@@schlop1771
It’s a regular battle theme
@@isaac15752 well I saw a playthrough of this event just the other day and this track plays for like 6 stages before the boss stage, so yeah it's just a normal battle theme
read what i said again@@schlop1771
Finally
Would you pls react to the blasphemous soundtrack?
6:37
Name of the song? I might be stupid, but I can't find the name.
I said it on the intro :D
The song is officially titled "Der Hexenkönig" 👍
@@schlop1771 The witch king 😱
