My German friend at work brought in a box of Jaffa cakes and I LOVED THEM!!! I would love to make this for her, in thanks for introducing me to the best thing ever!
Am I the only one who boils the kettle first and then pours the hot water into the pan so I don't have to wait ages for the cold tap water to boil? I've noticed all cooks do this but surely boiling the kettle is better as it saves you time, also I think it is probably cheaper too as you don't have to use as much electricity? Or maybe there is a reason for it? Haha genuinely interested if i'm the only person that does it! Other than that, another great recipe Barry! X
+Ewa K Not an American myself but from what I've heard electric kettles aren't really common their because they have a lower voltage and as such it usually takes longer to boil in a kettle.
It looks so tasty when you have a bite out of that cake. One thing that I don't get, is what is the difference with using a hand mixer and a whisk to beat the batter? Some of the recipes needs to be mixed with a mixer and some only needs to use a whisk, will it make any difference?
My birthday is in a week & I think I'm gonna make this for myself and my family. We are in Kansas & we only can get jaffa cakes here about twice a year when aldi has them.
I am going to try this recipe. My Dad eats the hell out of normal size Jaffa Cake's but now that we live in the USA they hard to find! We do not live in a large city so Aldi's is about the only place that has them and it is hit and miss once the Holiday season is over. HIT cookies are hard to find as well! Trying to find good marzipan is hard as well I have to make marzipan cookies and candies for my Mom!
I make giant Jaffa cakes all the time (using a modified versions of your giant food recipe). My question is how did you melt the marmalade so easily? I always struggle and am left with lumps and the jelly sticks to the mould
Most store bought Jaffa Cakes do contain any gelatine. I know because I’m a vegetarian who loves Jaffa Cakes. What’s the secret veggie solution behind the orange jelly there? I’ve tried fruit pectine, but it doesn’t quite gel the same way. It thickens, but doesn’t get that ”bounciness”. Sometimes it even getsa bit of a powdery texture. Any help would be appreciated.
+Sk3elly Try using less water. It makes the flavour of the jelly more intense too. I'm guessing that not incorporating the marmalade as part of the jelly mixture would help firm it up too. Maybe spread the marmalade over the cake base separately instead, so that the orange jelly disk thing has something to stick to?
+Barry Lewis Oh really. I just love your mini food videos Barry, they're awesome! Do you think you could do bacon and eggs with some milk or juice maybe?
+Joseph Collins If you like orange chocolate flavor, there's orange chocolate sold in a variety of types as well! Jaffa cakes aren't bad. If you're in the US, you can get them in import isles or import stores, as well as a number of other imported delights. Tam-tams are another tasty treat, for example (chocolate).
+Chillius He said over and over in the video that's he's already gone a *giant* Jaffa Cake but this is for people who want to make one themselves for birthdays! It's just *big" :)
+Merthurmad Probably because jam by itself wouldn't hold up under the weight of all that chocolate on that scale. It'd squish out. Or maybe he just likes it stiffer?

That looks amazing! The Queen would approve of that for sure!
"Now you just wanna stand there beatin' it away for about 5 minutes"
M8 i do that every night
U dirty minded little shi-

I do the same thing, I mean it's logically sound on the surface so until told otherwise I will continue to pre-boil my water haha.
I made this last week for my dads birthday, safe to say he loved it! Thanks barry 😊

Got me in the mood for jaffa cakes now :D
Looks amazing, Barry
whoa... I've never heard of a cake like this but it looks amazing
Barry! You should totally do a blooper/outtake/gag reel video :) So we can see you running around the kitchen saying "cake, cake" ..."cake, cake" :D
Cute puppy.

I'd love to see a giant battenburg D:
+Ant (mrheavyhand) Yes please!
+Ant (mrheavyhand) I never thought of that! Battenburg is the bessssst :D
+Ant (mrheavyhand) By battenburg, do you mean the two-colour pink and yellow one, or the one dipped in chocolate at each end?
viperhalberd There's one dipped in chocolate? Does that one have marzipan too?
I meant the marzipan one - but A CHOCOLATE DIPPED ONE WHAT ?!
Yum! Definitely making this for my next b'day!
this looks really yummy going to have to make this.
is there a way of making it vegan.
+YOGSCAST Simon ugh... tagging wont work...
Barry is it called a cake cake by any chance !! this was awesome
keep your amazing videos up x
Chocolate has a very similar melting point to the metal element gallium. Could I substitute that for the chocolate?
Great video!
Boston seems to be A happy happy pub. :)

+Barry Lewis the thumbnail image makes me so hungry,i think one of these days i will make that cake
Looks awesome........ cake cake, cake cake
Is there any way to make the jelly a bit more firm and less jiggly like jelly? Freezer?
+Sk3elly Try using less water. It makes the flavour of the jelly more intense too. I'm guessing that not incorporating the marmalade as part of the jelly mixture would help firm it up too. Maybe spread the marmalade over the cake base separately instead, so that the orange jelly disk thing has something to stick to?
I have an electric cooker, what heat level shall i put my cooker on when baking the cake? Full?
Simon from the yogscast needs to see this...
I think yogscast are based just up the road from me in Bristol
+Barry Lewis Oh really. I just love your mini food videos Barry, they're awesome! Do you think you could do bacon and eggs with some milk or juice maybe?
+Morning Star Try getting them on a video it would be coool!
+Morning Star Haha, same thought here :D
Omg, I used to love Jaffa Cake cake as a kid. Is there anyway I can make it vegan?
I have never had a Jaffa Cake, much less a Jaffa Cake cake. But now that I know what a Jaffa Cake is, I kinda want one. :9
OMG it looks so good :D I can now finally make my own jaffa cake factory xD
How do u get the jelly easily out the dish mine keeps breaking. Any advice?
could you try and make a giant Viennese whirl by Mr kipling please love your channel BTW x
What does the cooking the mix on the hob do to it?
Your pug is so cute!!!!!!!
is it basically a giant Jaffa cake like the one u made before?
:) another great video barry
You used marmalade for the inside, should gone for ginger flavouring to add to the jelly, would have had a better result in taste
Barry, For the jelly do you think vegetarian jelly be alright with this cake? as I can't have gelatin
It should work just fine m8, just curious though, why cant you have gelatin?
+johnathan young It has animal in it, I think it's pork
+GalidorDimension Yes gelatin is pork fat. A common alternative is agar agar, which is vegetarian and pretty much the same consistency.
+johnathan young I've seen vegetarian gelatin, which I think is the one you are taking about. I might try that thanks
Why haven't you been filming in your studio? I must've missed something
I thought you had already did a giant jaffa cake, still though, gonna try this!
+Chillius He said over and over in the video that's he's already gone a *giant* Jaffa Cake but this is for people who want to make one themselves for birthdays! It's just *big" :)
***** ahh i might made one xD!
*****
Me too! I love Jaffa Cakes
I'm totally making a mini version of this with milk and white chocolate and strawberry jelly.
Irony: I was eating jaffa cakes right before this. Delicious!
*coincidental
If I was not on a diet I would go make this right now.
Mc Vittes already make these it's called 'The big one'. THEY ARE DELICOUS !!!
So, to make "jelly cubes" I'll take the Jello powder with half the water?
Just making sure I'm hearing this right.
How did the sponge taste? I feel like it looks too moist
You're a bit too moist
+Grace “BeautyGirl3000” Hunt ooh burn
can I use milk chocolate ?
Just made mine but the actual cake part tastes like a sweet omelette?!? I did everything you did so I don't know why it went wrong?!
Forgot the flour?
Nope. I definitely added all the ingredients. I'll try it again and maybe take away one egg.
Making this for my bros birthday possibly thnx😁

Got a nice tang to it George

more giant foods pleaassee :D
Shame my birthday has been and gone this year although this probably wouldn't help my Jaffa cake addiction
The centre of a Jaffa cake is Jam so why not just put the marmalade straight on the cake, why make it into Jelly?
+Merthurmad Probably because jam by itself wouldn't hold up under the weight of all that chocolate on that scale. It'd squish out. Or maybe he just likes it stiffer?
+Merthurmad All the centres of the Jaffa Cakes I've eaten have been more jelly textured than jam...
Chicken Satay Skewers plz.
