These girls probably started the whole gothic lolita fashion in Japan, and yet no one remembers nor so much a mention when talking about said fashion. Go back to as far as the early 80s, and they're most likely the earliest ones who ever dressed like this.
I'm very late coming to SS's fanbase. It has blown me away how so many awesome bands never reached over (well reached my ears) in America. Just hate the stumbling in the dark feeling as life goes by to find these awesome bands. I'll not turn away any of them, regardless. They are all new and great.
We've alway's had an awful lot of fantastic band's. Being 75 I've been around to hear many of them BUT like you, I'm new to this band, having bought a CD for £0.25p as I recognised their name. WHAT A TREAT I HAD.
Unfortunately, my route home from my college summer jobs during 1984-1989 took me past Aarons Records in Hollywood (and periously close to Bleeker Bobs on Melrose also in Hollywood) where I would spend most of my income on British/European import records. They cost more but the music was - and still is - the BEST.
Wow, an awesome band dressed up in what today would be considered lolita fashion back when only a handful of people in Japan were dressing this way. Angelic Pretty and Pink House were among the only brands around at the time; Baby The Stars Shine Bright and Metamorphose wouldn't exist for a few more years. The term lolita first appeared in the fashion magazine Ryukou Tsushin in the September 1987 issue.
@aadamjacobs I agree totally. I once tried to get in touch w/ Rose via official myspace but never got a response....I would proudly put the Robin Miller Sessions on limited wax via FLA in a heartbeat! I Love all SS but I always felt the early stuff w/ full band was the best...shame hardly of it was recorded for release......
The guy who produced their album ruined the songs and, probably, their career. Anyone familiar with the Peel session versions of Another Day, 10 James Oar Street, Trees and Flowers etc and the Kid Jensen show session too, will know how great Strawberry Switchblade were. Fantastic songwriters and wonderful singers. Robin Miller would certainly have been a better choice of producer for the album, but the radio sessions can be found on the net so seek them out and discover the real magic.
I hadn't ever heard these alternate takes until RUclips. Anyone know if the entire LP from these sessions is available? Imo this is better than the studio release! Rose looks so cute in this pic.
i have an obsession with this band, no doubt.
Me too
They need to find the master-tape for the Robin Millar session and put it out as a single!

I bet the late 80s early 90s kinderwhore look that the grunge and riot grrrls came from them too!
The look is fascinating.

The cutest comment of the cutest version of the song!
this is the most adorable youtube comment i’ve ever seen 😭❤️
The 12 string in this oh my makes my manly heart melt
I hear a lot of the Orange Juice band influence in a lot of these earlier recordings. Some great pop!
i prefer this over the original actually, 1:19 - 1:34 is absolutely heavenly
This band is absolutely legendary

Just a beautiful song! Love it. The guitar and vocals are top-class on this one.
Love them ,shame their gone
I love it so much! Though I like album version either, this one is so natural and even more cute. Very fresh, indeed.
A little gem, great to hear these alternate versions! :)

Christ this is good
The Smiths meets B52's? who cares i'm wrecked
I like both versions, the album is amazing, but so are the fresh early versions
they shoud’ve kept this kinda style, this version is literally so good and lovely ☹️

I like the official release but these sessions are much better I agree.
Secrets is their best song on the ablum keep your opinion to yourself
@@aprildalton-no5bx Says April, stating an opinion.
The album was over produced. I like the first versions, more clear
Completely disagree. One of the most well produced albums of all time.
So nice to hear them in a different light, more giutar less ethereal synth, shows off their musical talents better, sounds fresher too.
Brilliant. Still sounds great to me.
this is so fire
Lolita Goth!

amazing version :))
This isn't a version I remember, but nevertheless, it sounds absolutely blissful, jocund and groovy!
This version sounds more like post punk!
Kawaii desu!!!!!
This is so much better than the album version. I'd love to hear acoustic demos. To me, they would have been the best thing SS ever released.
Its so strange the way it changes the mood from the original version, like a playful folk without the synths and stuff
@ariellevonglitz You Welcome!
Very haircut 100
Are there any more tracks from this session?
It's interesting to hear this version, but the final album version is so much better!! (in my humble opinion...lol)
😑😑😑
jrregan, they weren't very popular, they went broke with their album.
No they didn't, they went top 5. They were explosively popular. They just didn't want to continue.
I wish they had kept to this style instead of going electronic
