Always crazy to me how not only them but a lot of classic groups met by chance, and if neither of them went to that club that day none of the music they have now would’ve ever existed
@@mairedaly4548 he meant that, other than european/us vibe of pop idol, they somehow give off that japanese 80s pop idol, i mean rather chasing that sensual vibe, they chose the cute and colorful look.
I absolutely adore this band. They also included several members of Post-Punk/Pop band Orange Juice. This is such a cool interview. Nice to see them getting respected.
Rose McDowall and Jill Bryson. Proper legends both. Inspiring Weegie Women who battled through a whole load of Macho Glasgow Bullshit and realised a dream. I very much enjoyed this interview. Interviewer carried out his homework task pretty well too. Cheers fir the u/l.
Just perfect.. They are special artists and brings back such beautiful memories.. Also , you don't get interviewers of this calibre these days.. He was so respectful!
When I was 15 in 1985, I would have sold my own mother to spend 5 minutes in the company of Rose and Jill. I went from being love with Kenny Dalglish to being in love with Strawberry Switchblade.
They played plymouth academy back in the 80s I met Rosie after and offered to buy her a drink she yes I almost shit myself,we started to get on shall we say, then very quickly someone had a word with and she left I was gutted loved her Glasgow accent though
Such a cool interview! The interviewers voice, their voices, the Japanese subtitles. I love how punk was the gateway for them meeting. Same way I met a majority of my friend group.
I met these two ladies, on the train platform at Carlisle train station, I was on my way to College with my friends, they were dressed in their signature polka dots, they were very friendly and sweet to us, before selfies so got their autographs, we couldn’t wait to get to College to tell everyone, I’m feeling very old, this was in the early 80’s their song hasn’t dated at all.
I wonder why no one mentions Strawberry Switchblade as the major influence and the precursor for mainstream Japanese styles like gothic Lolita Their music style and fashion sense influenced lots of people there in the 80s and 90s as well

That Japanese guy sounds black. (though he still said "rundon" lol.) Deep voice. I wonder if Strawberry Switchblade inspired Harajuku Style, gothic Lolita etc.
egl (elegant gothic lolita) fashion started in the 70s, actually! it has its own history, but it's probably better worded by someone else than me lol. Lovely Lor probably has a video on it somewhere?? But I don't remember for sure
He was probably putting it out there to open up the subject and reflecting old entrenched attitudes that were still commonly held for them to challenge them. Expertly handled by the girls I thought. Diplomatic yet forthright and positive.
@@rjjcms1 yeah, didn't get he was being antagonistic. Guy served up a softball cliche for the girls to pounce on and rip up. Not sure if that's what he was thinking, but the tone of voice suggested he was lightly teasing them.
Despite these girls lacking in dance choreography and moves, they had the foresight of propagating the Anime fashion-Harajuku styles way before others. The Japanese pop culture was totally captured by them!
I doubt they knew anything about Japan before they went there. They just developed their own style totally independent of anything going on in Japan… or anywhere else, for that matter.

Is anybody surprised these gals were big in Japan?
The Japanese would go on to develop a whole genre with a similar look, sound and vibe.
That's what I was thinking! That's all thanks to Strawberry Switchblade :)
Can u name this genre or some bands?

Great interviewer. He speaks good English and he isn't condescending, letting the girls speak without interrupting.
I'm more impressed with that Japanese host. He speaks good English. Great tone too.
He speaks English very well - better than you apparently.

Interviewer very professional and respectful.
This is the coolest indie/c86 band that came out of britain in the 80s. Holy cow they’re like anime characters. Just insane how forward they were!
what the fuck do we really have to read about fucking crap anime on our cultures videos ??????????????????????????????????
duck anime, this is the real stuff ☕️

I’m not really surprised the Japanese like them haha, I feel like they give off that 80’s pop idol thing people there seem to like.

Their song Ecstasy (Apple of My Eye) is really reminiscent of Japanese pop
I think "Being Cold" would make a nice anime outro song too.
