I was observing this storm when it was just a towering Cumulus cloud northeast of town. It developed so rapidly as it approached Nellis AFB area and it just intensified from there as it plowed through town. It went severe warned right after it broke out. I believe it originated from an outflow boundary. What a memorable event.
What an awesome video! If you have lived in Hilo, HI, you'd know the rains there are just as intense, and much more frequent. Literally, 30 days and 30 nights. I live in Vegas now and I can tell you, these storms are no joke. Hawaii's air is always cool and humid so when sound and electrical energy is released, the moisture serves as a "cushion" that bleeds off some of that energy. That same energy unleashed in extremely hot, dry air.......holy shit. This is a NEW experience in mother nature, I love it! The city is built on a desert. The ground is not porous lava rock. It's hard compacted dirt, clay and rocks. No organic matter at all. An enormous number of streets get flooded DEEP, after only five minutes - the storm drain system here is no joke either. They spent $$ to deal with these monsoons. I have yet to see major flooding in Hilo. Even with 30 straight days of heavy downpour, the water finds it's own way to the ocean. You can't imagine how important it is to have ground that will soak up some of this water. I have been watching this vid for almost 20 minutes, that is a lot of water.
A low pressure system that started in the Eastern U.S. had retrograded under a ridge of high pressure. This system was moving from east to west, which was extremely unusual for this hemisphere. This one was to make it to the Southwest/SoCal by the time it had weakened. It had gathered up monsoonal moisture to be put into Nevada and Southern California. This system was responsible for all these tstorms. It's neat how a storm from the East Coast had come here towards the west!
i remember this storm. i was a little shocked that some big casinos like Caesars and Mirage had massive water intrusion and had to close areas of their casinos
Im east coast- lots of storms where i live. Was in Vegas for a temp thing those ppl get paranoid driving in rain. I got caught outside in a dust storm there it was a bitch to walk through.
S Man!!! Another good vid! Enjoying retirement brother! You now can vlog the crazy political anti us activity across America, the three plus months of Portland, our guy hit during the protest. Still have the vid working trunk or treat w/u and the two others on that Halloween night! Haven’t gone back to the base or our division since getting out. Miss my Harley even after our 401... stay safe! Good video!
That lightning looks so cool at the end I love how it streams thru the sky.

joeashbubemma yup
joeashbubemma wow
Hilo is also located on sloping ground, so water flows rapidly to the ocean. In contrast, Las Vegas is flat, so water isn't going anywhere.

Not rare! Welcome to Las Vegas in mid July this is what happens. One minute you are in a parched dust bowl next minute you are in aqua quenched bowl!
