20+ years ago I worked as an engineer installing and maintaining weather stations on roads and runways in the UK, Ireland, bits of Europe and the US. In the summer we often worked in teams of two doing annual maintenance and calibrating the equipment, but in winter you were on call constantly and were nearly always out on the road fixing any stations that had gone bad or whatever, and I often spent the whole week away from home on my own, week in week out. The only human contact would be on the mobile to the office now and then, and hotel receptionists and bar staff when eating at night. I talked to myself all the time (still do - the wife would probably think I was a basket case if she didn't also do it!), but whilst I might be on the side of a motorway which isn't the nicest place especially on dark, cold, wet days, I could also be in the Lake District, the Peak District, the Welsh mountains, Scotland and the Hebrides and all sorts of stunningly beautiful places, and whilst sometimes the silence was amazing, sometimes you just felt you needed to communicate it to someone, anyone, and if there was no one else then I'd communicate it to myself. I think if GoPro cameras and smart phones had been around I'd have made videos in those places too!
It amazes me that humans forget to talk to the One that created the beauty their speaking about. I love talking to my Creator and thanking Him for this beautiful world He created.
You don't need a "proper job" Alex. That's a fallacy we are sold by main stream society. What we need is to live our short time on this planet doing that which makes our souls sing. No one lies on their death bed and wishes they'd spent more time doing their "proper job!" You're providing inspiration. That changes lives. Don't ever sell out to "proper" anything 👊🏼🙏Tracy. 🙂
Some people do get by without a “ proper” job. They totally depend on all those who work to make things function. Every time you buy groceries, eat said groceries, drive on a road, turn on the lights, dispose of your garbage, or seek help when you get sick you are doing so on the backs of folks who work to keep things running. The next time your power goes out thank the guys out in the storm getting it back on line.
@@daveslaughter8290 That is great that people chose to work the jobs you mentioned but are they truly happy? No one said they were ungrateful for the work anyone provides. Your comment kind of came off like people were ungrateful for others work when nothing of the sort was mentioned. Do what makes you happy and forget about others big opinions was the message. Something in my gut tells me that those that have something negative to say are mad that they never followed there own dreams. Just a hunch. Working on you tube promotes entertainment, education, and inspiration what more could you ask for? All things serve a purpose even a content creator. As long as your ego is not so big and youve lost all sight of what true reality is like some creators, Alex is far from that as all can see he is a gem!
You've probably learned more on 1 month, than most people do in a lifetime. As a person of age, I just have 1 advice, remember what you learned, and hold onto it. I commend you for taking this journey, as most wouldn't even come close to doing what you did.
What a lovely young man. I love his manner and enthusiasm. He’s not afraid to step outside of his comfort zone and try new challenges. It was a very interesting video. Well done
Yeah I thought the same actually, he mentions noting that rich people who have everything are still sometimes not happy, and even though he had everything he wanted, he was still missing something to fight off negative thoughts and so fills his time challenging himself. Why should life always have to be filled with tasks to fight off negative thoughts, perhaps if you were more connected to your mind and able to unhook from negative thoughts, you could just enjoy the Austrian mountains and realise that is enough, without always "needing" something else. So you can't outrun your mind even in the mountains, but perhaps you don't need to.
Thank you so much Alex for sharing this adventure with us. I think you are an example for many young people in this society. Even a 56 year old old man like me still gets inspiration from your adventures. Sometimes my wife says, why do you laugh when you watch the videos, then I show you the video and the humor and she laughs along. Until the next adventure Alex and I will definitely follow it again. Greetings from the beautiful Netherlands.
7 minutes in and I’m totally fascinated at this discovery of a channel. What a blissful and thought provoking video that kind of in all honesty makes me want to quit everything and just go live up a mountain. Slow down, and just sit down to appreciate life. Beautiful video!
I understand your talking to yourself...its a good thing. You are your own bestfriend. My 27 year old son does it and i do too 😂 when im outside having coffee i can hear him and he sounds happy or frustrated about politics on the news..as long as you dont keep it inside. Be joyful, sad, mindful, angry etc...its good to release it. We are Italiano 😁😁 No matter where we are at...home, a friends, traveling etc...enjoy it all and every little thing. Thank you for sharing 🙏😁😁
As someone who guides people in life, the concept of "I need to do something to be happy" is the thing that keeps you from being happy. It takes practice while enjoying your life to sit still with the wonderful things and people around your life. That is something to reflect on and practice ^^
You've boiled the very fundamentals of life down to its essence, Alec; food, family, friends, and movement. All we need in this life is to play & rest, eat good food & share our stories with loved ones. The rest is artiface. Cheers to you!
Alex this has been absolutely brilliant and a must watch from start to finish. Your story telling both vocal & edited video are so good, it's like picking up a good book that you just can't put down. Thank you for keeping us all entertained with this great thought provoking adventure. Merry Christmas Alex.
The mantra of living in the countryside is be patient AND plan ahead. Urban living means everything is more or less immediately available at the last minute and always available. I grew up in the countryside and lack of planning and failing to understand that essential things might be unavailable can kill you in extreme circumstances. Its a different way of thinking.
Excellent series Alex! Most people don't have the self-confidence or sense of adventure to do what you did. Pushing one's boundaries is a character builder like no other. Well done! Merry Christmas!
Thank you for sharing your adventures, thougths and feelings. You're an inspiration. Earning your living by making videos makes sence. Yours are realy good and beautifull. Your narrative is so honest and belivable. You walk your talk - impressive...
Your RUclips channel is fascinating. I’m a measly college student a few months away from graduating, but seeing you continue to challenge yourself just from the three videos I’ve watched so far are really inspiring me to challenge myself.
Kudos Alex, for making genuinely honest and heartfelt content like this. It’s brave, it’s fun, it’s introspective, challenging, educational and most of all: In a real sense we were there with you. A lot of your RUclips peers fail to make a real connection with their audience through the camera, or resort to gags and annoying montages to either mask a lack of substance, or a clear focus. You are not afraid to be yourself with all the insecurities it involves, and that is a great quality that shines through in your content.
I recently discovered your channel and it's one of the best things the internet has ever shown me, your videos bring such peace in my mind that i can't even describe. thank you so much for this, i really needed it at this point in my life.
Thank you for this - it was very beautiful. Having moved to the mountains myself last year, I have noticed a great change in my pace of doing things. I had spend 8 years in the capital city with one million things happening at the same time. Now, since may 2022, I have gained a new perspective - I did slow down. I started to notice more around me. It's an amazing feeling ... as if you got a new pair of eyes. Xoxo
I am from Germany and I love it when people from outside come to Germany and see that it has other things to offer then beer and things like that. Thank you that you show this small portion but what it really means.
This was such an excellent episode you could’ve turn this into like a full featured documentary, it was that good. Thanks for helping me reevaluate my life and now I’m seeing that I need to make some changes in my own life. Thanks for sharing this awesome experience.
I so enjoyed watching your journey Alex. You have a great sense of adventure which is admirable. As you look back on your life when you are older, I doubt you will have any regrets. And that is a life well lived!
This actually brought me to tears. I am from Germany and I am staying in Indonesia for 6 months, over christmas too. And seeing the christmas market and everything just brought back such a home like feeling, which made me realize how much I cherish that time with my family. Thank you for sharing what you have learned, it really touched me! :)
Alex, this was magnificent! You did a great job editing your month of events. And what a fantastic setting there in the Austrian Tyrol. I can imagine that you had mixed feelings about leaving, Thanks so much for sharing with us.
I love your idea to spend 1 month alone. I am going to take this under serious consideration to do myself 😀 beautiful and inspirational video in every way!
Thank you for sharing this experience! It was so great to watch. It certainly resonated with me trying to live a simpler life and find joy in the smaller things.
Alex thank you for filming this experience in the mountains. Beautiful views and great content in this video series. It's important we learn about just being ourselves. It's a life time journey and you will remember this the rest of your life. Take Care and Merry Christmas.
From the looks of it this time alone was very good for you. Your choice of environment to spend that time in was nothing short of glorious . Hope you traveled safely home and enjoy your Christmas with family and friends. Look forward to more of your adventures.
@@just_alex Thank you for making videos! I don't know if you realise it, but what you offer on RUclips is exceptional, both in content and in form. Alex, you're one of my favourite RUclipsrs, Carl is not far behind either ;) If you must know, I was first surprised, and interested, by the way you (and Carl) talk. Then by the content you were offering. But little by little, the quality of the image improved until it became a must. Watching one of your videos is the assurance of following a good story, masterfully illustrated. Thanks for everything, Alex
Brilliant! I've always wanted to commit to something of this sort, and I definitely have it on my to-do list. A couple of weeks ago, I committed to something similar, being in a tiny hut for a day and a half, and it already felt incredible (and had to even run across a nearby field at 6am in the morning due to heavy rain, and walk for other half an hour to catch the bus).
It was a fun adventure how I became the subscriber of your channel Alex. I am a fisherman, so no surprise how I found your content for the first time. And I don't remember the exact moment when your stuff outside fishing (foraging forest, bee keeping, knife making, etc.) became at least (or more) interesting for me than fishing content itself, but here we are :) Thank you for your videos, you are certainly inspire me and I wish you all the best in 2023! :)

Love you videos Alex, keep them coming. In my late sixties now and so wish I could have been as adventurous as you when I was your age but following your adventures makes me happy. Thank you.
If you were going to live in a place like that, you chose the right season to try it out. The rest of the year would be entirely different. Yes, we all need some people in our lives, and yes, we do need to slow down and find out what is really important to us. You always learn something from your adventures. Some of us probably learn
A beatiful video with a strong message. Everyone should go out of their comfort zone and try something new, also being alone in solitude is the most crucial thing for learning about yourself
What an awesome job you have, Alex! And you’re getting really good at it!😊. They say, find something you love to do, and you’ll never work a day in your life…I can see you doing this for a long, long time!❤. Cheers!👍
Alex, what an inspiration you are! From your videography skills to your general outlook on life! It is was brave of you to step out of your comfort zone from Carl and Alex but boy have you made amazing content! All the best for your future adventures! Best wishes from Brisbane, AU via Milton Keynes!
Hello Alex Thank you for mention us in your video we made your shoes and it would be nice to see you again. Hopefully the shoes fit you well and I hope atleast you wear them 1 time’s a week. All the best from team Winderl Weerberg☺️
Alex remembered his Aldi bag for life when visiting the shop in the mountains of Austria. I forget mine when I go to actual Aldi which is only round the corner.
Alex, this was so amasing and I'm really grateful for this video! I've never been in the mountains actually, but I love mountains with all my heart, especially snowy mountains! I'll definitely be in the place like this in next 5 years! And, btw you remember me my big brother, so I feel like you my big bro whose tells me amasing and fascinating stories about his journeys!

I just spent alone 1,5 month in Portugal and I learned it also: How nice to be with people. ☺But I like it alone, too. Looks wonderful there in the Austrian mountains. 🤩
Every video you put up is heart warming , relaxing and beautiful with a a bit of humour added to it. Just what people need after a long day at work, issues in life in general or just simply had a crap day. Thank you and hope you reach 100k soon 😃🙌

This is amazing experience alex. I wish i will stay in snowy mountains someday. Our goals are same as you. Growing own food, manage own time and quit job and explore and travel.
What journey and what an amazing young chap you are. Doing that journey on your own I certainly wouldn’t have had the minerals to do it. Well done and you made some excellent content on this trip. All the very best to you and the family and everything you do in the future

You're a one of a kind man alex i've really enjoyed this i guess u would call a mini series/adventure over the last month in the hut i recently lost my stepmum and theses videos were really comforting over this last month it gave me homely vibes it really makes u think about how you live your day to day life and i hope in the next two years with my current job to be remote working in a van while exploring staying and visiting places along the way in my own country of australia and in years to come places like the UK Europe Canada etc you're a inspiration to many ♥
Just loved watching your video Alex. Beat any travel show hands down !! My family come from Dalarna in Sweden, so can really relate to the mountains, snow and heavenly scenery. Currently living in Canada which also has breathtaking scenery. Both of these countries I hope you can visit one day. Do keep challenging yourself. I drove my Mini Cooper from Nova Scotia to Vancouver in August and back again in October. Some hairy moments along the way, but I did it, and I am in my 70's. Just keep doing exciting and outrageous things !!! Oh, and definitely more videos !
It's so awesome to see you doing your thing. Its great to see Alex being....just Alex! Please do loads more of this and please please follow your passion for food
One of my favourite things to do is go on canoe trips with a small group of people, while I'm not alone I am secluded from the world and as you said it feels amazing. My favourite parts are when everyone has done to bed and I'm sitting on a rock listening to the water knowing that there are probably only 20 people in 100 km of me (though my group is never that big there probably are other canoeist’s out there. I wish you had gotten to know the wildlife more or had gone in the summer to find the joys of foraging as it is an amazing pastime, maybe in another video. Thanks for the amazing content
Just beautiful. Excellent adventure, superbly shot, edited and narrated. I've been watching the whole series and yet it was at times fresh yet with moments of happy recolection. Mery Christmas ALEX
This is so nice to watch, alex you're saying something about your dreams of having your own cavin in the mountain when you grow old. I'll tell you this brother, you're living in my dream now! and It looks like you're having fun! keep it up brother!
Man! Was a big surprise when i saw the Weerberg sign on your map. I watch many videos like these and none was so close to my hearth. Let me explain. As hungarian my first job abroad was in Tirol. As the first mountains at home were about 100km away from us, you could imagine how mindblowing was for me to see such view all day long. I had a room on the mountain (Kolsassberg) in front of you with the same view direction (north). My sister worked there in Weerberg (Sonnenrezidenz Friedheim) and also met my Honey there in the same hotel. The view was the whole year absolutely astonishing from both places... I hope you visited the lovely church on that tiny mountain next to the village(below). And the Hängebrücke below you in the valley. Also forgot to mention: no other chinese restaurant can beat the one in Wattens. Im looking forward to visit this place again. May i ask you the contact or phone number so i can rent the Hut aswell please? 😊 Cheers and happy new year!
Wow, beautiful to watch and gentle too. I do a solo 9 day snow camp high up in the Alps. You do need to keep yourself busy, and I definitely start to miss talking to people. What a great idea for a month!
Enjoyable series in the mountains, don’t think I’d be able cope with a month alone, but you certainly would learn a lot about yourself. The trip to the town and all those cakes/ pastries looked special. Look forward to what you do next.

Thanks for the video, Alex. What wonderful memories of this beautiful place you now have! 🗻⛷🚿
If you were going to live in a place like that, you chose the right season to try it out. The rest of the year would be entirely different. Yes, we all need some people in our lives, and yes, we do need to slow down and find out what is really important to us. You always learn something from your adventures. Some of us probably learn
Thanks for watching! :)
Cheers!👍
Thanks for watching! :)
thats how life is spose to be, good work mate! thanks for the views, enjoy the simple things that most busy people miss
Thanks so much James!
Great trip Alex! Very inspiring. Guess now you will be like Chris Rea, ‘drivin home for Christmas’.

This is about the greatest gift of RUclips Content I could wish for. Happy Holidays
Really loved watching this, every single second of it. Very well made video with good music, good commentary and a lovely calming vibe to it. You seem like a nice guy man, I subscribed! 😁
Thank you for sharing this with us Alex! an absolute pleasure to watch.
I just spent alone 1,5 month in Portugal and I learned it also: How nice to be with people. ☺But I like it alone, too. Looks wonderful there in the Austrian mountains. 🤩
I just discovered this channel and I'm so glad I did!!
Just a guy simply discovering, experiencing, and growing
Agree! please don't change Alex!
Every video you put up is heart warming , relaxing and beautiful with a a bit of humour added to it. Just what people need after a long day at work, issues in life in general or just simply had a crap day. Thank you and hope you reach 100k soon 😃🙌
| got inspired by you and booked a winter cabin for 10 days in Slovenia. It is at around 700 meters of elevation and not so wild as yours but it is surrounded by nature and amazing views. And it feels totally amazing. Thanks Alex.
That’s amazing. Hope you have a great time!
You are indeed blessed and lucky - as I am for being able to watch. Thanks for sharing. Blessings!
Man this is one of the best videos I’ve ever seen on RUclips. I’m glad that the RUclips algorithm suggested your videos to me. You got yourself a new subscriber ❤
You're a one of a kind man alex i've really enjoyed this i guess u would call a mini series/adventure over the last month in the hut i recently lost my stepmum and theses videos were really comforting over this last month it gave me homely vibes it really makes u think about how you live your day to day life and i hope in the next two years with my current job to be remote working in a van while exploring staying and visiting places along the way in my own country of australia and in years to come places like the UK Europe Canada etc you're a inspiration to many ♥
Thanks for watching, I'm so happy the videos help you, wish you the best.
@@just_alex Thanks man ❤
Just loved watching your video Alex.
Beautiful video. There is always somewhere to go and something to do every day of your life. Alex you captured that beautifully.
It's so awesome to see you doing your thing. Its great to see Alex being....just Alex! Please do loads more of this and please please follow your passion for food
Being someone who has spent months in the mountains and now back in the uk, I can surely say you will miss it everyday!
Great watch again Alex, agree with the comments, just do want you do to make you happy and thereby making us happy watching you on your adventures
Mery Christmas ALEX
enjoyed your adventure for the month, love seeing you do different things, hope you are doing well
Thankyou Alex , You inspire me to take the challenges I have been so scared to take on. Made me appreciate life on this planet little more.
😊 Cheers and happy new year!
was fur ein tolles video! ich muss sagen, dass oesterreich lieblich assieht.
I feel home whenever I watch your videos, love u Alex.
Wow, beautiful to watch and gentle too. I do a solo 9 day snow camp high up in the Alps. You do need to keep yourself busy, and I definitely start to miss talking to people. What a great idea for a month!
Great video and great channel. Tons of people, specially your age should watch you and learn the mindset. It's just refreshing.
BRAVO!! Mission Complete!!
Your family will be so proud!
Can't wait to see the clogs!
Safe Travels Home! Merry Christmas.
Thanks Alex, loving your videos. Great scripting and amazing topic variation. Keep up your fantastic journey.
Well done Alex. It was great following you on this adventure. Hope you had a great Christmas.
Enjoyable series in the mountains, don’t think I’d be able cope with a month alone, but you certainly would learn a lot about yourself. The trip to the town and all those cakes/ pastries looked special. Look forward to what you do next.
Thanks!
I like the stuff between this guys ears.
Working as you enjoy life is the best gift I'd ever receive from the heavens! Love This ❤️
Every second was fantastic! Your observations are all spot on too! Thank you so much, Alex!
