    As I'm learning more about propagations lets get into the specifics:
    -root and stem rot are generally caused by a specific fungus or bacteria that has infected your plant.
    -we need to focus on disinfecting our cutting tools in between cuttings, this will help prevent bacteria from spreading.
    -good airflow and and a clean environment help prevent the spread of bacteria.
    -pests that fly from plant to plant, like fungus gnats, help spread bacteria. Do what you can to reduce their numbers.
    -fungicides that you sprinkle on the stem/aerial roots can help help some situations.
    What does this mean for letting your plant callous? This may not have an actual effect if your plant is already infected with a bacteria/fungus that encourages soft rot. So focus less on the callousing and more on having clean tools.
    -Lee

      A wax plant is one of the easiest to grow. Forgot to water for over a month? No problem. Left it in a soaked plastic bag for over a month? No problem! I have even seen some flowers on mine when it got extra light. They don't want direct sun and can grow in the shade, but high light out of the sun is best. Over time you can train the vine around a door frame or whatever you want to attach it to.

    This is wonderful! Thank you so much! I bought a Monstera four years ago and never staked it properly, so it's growing wild and crazy now with a twisted vine. I've been thinking it's time to try and propagate it with cuttings to start over and make it more manageable, but I've been so scared to cut off any part of the plant. You gave me hope that I can make it work!

    Hi lee! How much soil should I cover the stems in the pot? How far buried should the stems be? Would I do it until the plant can stabilize itself and the roots are completely covered? I’ve heard that burying it too far deep is bad for the plant. Would I just cover the plants stem and roots in soil right below the node, and the stem will still continue to get taller as it grows?

    • @KillThisPlant
      @KillThisPlant  2 года назад +3

      Covering the stem puts the plant at an increased risk of stem rot. It's not guaranteed.
      One thing you can do is put in a small stake to support the plant. I've planted Monstera with the stems hovering above the soil supported by a chopstick.

      Technically root rot is a fungal/bacterial infection that can spread in a variety of ways. But you would have to be sharing soil, sharing tools, be in a damp environment with poor airflow and all those plants touching.
      More likely its a watering behaviour.

    Hii I just tried repotting my monstera plant and it looks like it’s dying. I think it’s probably going through shock but it’s been a few weeks since I repotted and it’s not really getting better, the leaves keep getting more yellow little by little. I want to try to save it but I think another repotting would kill it from too much stress. I want to try propagating do you think it will help?

    • @eden3002
      @eden3002 Год назад

      I think the problem might be overfertilized soil but I don’t think repotting again into fresh soil will help much, too much stress for it😞

    • @KillThisPlant
      @KillThisPlant  Год назад +2

      Your plant is already dying. Doing nothing is not a choice you can make right now. Take it out and try again.

      @@KillThisPlant I was looking at it again and I noticed there’s a little sprout growing from one of the stems. Should I still repot the whole plant or wait? Or maybe take this specific stem and propagate it? I don’t know what to do😭

    Can you choose a pot that is to large?

    • @KillThisPlant
      @KillThisPlant  Год назад

      Yes you can. If the pot is too large, the roots will not be able to absorb all the moisture from the damp soil. The soil around the roots will stay wet eventually suffocating the roots (wet soil, lack of oxygen, roots rot)

    I went to repot my mini monstera ans it snapped ao i cut them up and now gotta start over but its ok becuase i have my final pots on porch with poles waiting for them. That being said ahould i put one plant or two for my pole? Will one plant look way to skinny??
