Yes, I know about Inquire. I’ve used it sparingly for comparing workbooks. It’s also one of those add-ins that I have to activate every time I restart my computer.
@@AccessAnalytic Funny, for me the DAX Studio add-in doesn’t do that. And yes, all ribbon tabs are active (bar one) all the time, even the Access Analytic one :-) I even put the Options and Advanced Options buttons on my QAT for quick access.
Very cool Wyn!! Thanks for sharing. Speaking of large files, my line of work requires evaluating hourly data sometimes in excess of 10 years (i.e. modeling a microgrid or battery simulation). I've spent a fair amount of time with no luck trying to avoid calculating everything at the datetime level but with a battery I need the resulting state of charge from the previous hour. Any suggestions? I'm not sure that using the Data Model would actually decrease my workbook size. Any help would be much appreciated!
I'd almost guarantee that using the Data Model would decrease your workbook size. I'd recommend you post some sample data and screenshots to techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/microsoft-excel/ct-p/Excel_Cat or to the Power BI community community.powerbi.com/t5/Desktop/bd-p/power-bi-designer to get the data model / DAX approach to address your scenario
@@AccessAnalytic great suggestions. You’ve got me thinking with the DAX approach. Thanks for sharing the links. I’ll gather my thoughts and reach out to the community if I can’t overcome. Thanks again!
Thank you for another usefull video. I actually used to do it all the time but now as I switched to office 365 it's not there anymore. Any way to do something similar here?
I'll give this a try. I've got serious issues doing a simple cut and paste task on a 26mb file. It could also be a Mac issue. Copy and paste. No problem. But cut... Excel on Mac really doesn't like it.
Good Morning Sir, I am Subhas Samuel from India, I am a freelance Accountant and Tax Consultant, I would like to share one pathetic experience, recently I have visited a medium business organization, they are using one of the closed and preprogrammed Accounting Software, they are facing lots of problems, they are not able to ascertain their periodical business status, as I am an Excel user at Advanced level (not highly Advanced Level), the solution came to my mind so instantly that if they use latest version of Excel at Advanced level, they can get more than what they are not able to get with their present software, I have explained to them, still they do not want to give up their conservativeness, they prepared loose revenue rather than accepting radical changes, my assumption is they are loosing almost 35k dollars every year because of their inappropriate software usage, why I am sharing this experience is, this scenario is in prevalence all over the world among the business community ( The Ego), I am extremely sorry for using this word, Thanks and God Bless You Sir.
I’ve never seen this particular addin turned off. But…there’s a new feature on the review tab called Optimise Worksheet that might help ( if you have an up to date version of 365 )
Thank you for bringing new knowledge to us every time.
You’re welcome e Priya
Over 20 years working with Excel and boom, I've always seen it, but never used it.
Great find Wyn! Thx.
Cheers Iván

That used to happen to me with certain add-ins. DAX Studio is one that still does that
I have the Developer Tab enabled to make it easier to toggle COM addins off and back on

Thank you - I've been doing that cleanup by hand, so this will really help!
No worries B C
Wow! From 45mb to 1mb. Magic! Thanks
Awesome!
Never knew about it. I used Excel VBA to re-set the real last row and last column.
Hi Wyn, thanks for the tip, no didn't know, now installed!! I'll give this a go at some point, cheers!
Great, thanks for letting me know Pete
It's a shame that this is only available for the Pro or Enterprise versions.
Yep, there's a number of odd decisions with these sorts of things about what to include / exclude
I don't have this Inquire option available, however nifty tip!
Thanks
Awesome but unfortunately is not availlable on Microsoft 365 Subscription Edition.
Thanks. It's these 365 subscriptions: www.microsoft.com/en-au/microsoft-365/enterprise/compare-office-365-plans

Thank you, it was new to my knowledge.
Glad to help
I fixed my spreadsheet speed by disabling the Adobe Acrobat add-in the same com list as where turned on the Inquire
Good stuff

My demo is using 365
But it's E3 (enterprise, so I'm guessing you don't have that version)
you saved my day :) , subscribed!

Doesn’t sound good
1.56GB to - 1.11MB - A user contacted us regarding their excel file no longer opening. Thank you!
Awesome!
Oh this is not available for "Microsoft 365 Apps for business" :(
Sadly not
My file got bigger after this :P
Wow? 😳. Make sure you send feedback to the Excel team via File - Feedback - send a frown
It's not a single click by the way 😂 But thank you for the trick.!!Good one
Never let facts get in the way of a headline 😁
Now if it would just get rid of all those extra cells... 😉

Double thanks 😀

Hi, do you have any tips for fixing large excel files for people who work for companies who don't allow third party add ins?
