I’ve never been one to journal. I think my type A personality prohibits me from releasing my “art”. However, when I was a little girl, my girlfriends and I would spend days in the summer coloring, drawing “designs” and coloring them, water coloring in our coloring books, and drawing. Our imaginations were free! But, now, I can’t release except through sewing and quilting. I guess that is a form of my “art” and I love the hum of my different sewing machines.
Thank you! I have not tried dusting baby powder on pages. Please share what you know about that technique? ❤️ I use Dorland's Wax Medium on the page - just buff it on and buff it off. The powder sounds intriguing.
Daniela, I used to teach rubber stamping classes. We made greeting cards and oftentimes when we would adhere the cardstock papers together with Tombow permanent adhesive, students would "over apply" and have a sticky mess on the sides of their cards! I would have them dip their finger in the ramekin bowl that was filled with baby powder. They'd gently rub baby powder on the sticky areas. Easy and quick fix for most anything sticky!
Find your process so interesting, thank you for sharing some of your art journals. As someone who collects anything from feathers, to leaves and pebbles when out in nature, I feel a journal like the one from your walks might be the kind of art journal I should begin with. Thank you for this inspiration and all the helpful information too.
I just discovered your channel. What a big help this video is. I have been making handmade greeting cards for years and I so wish I had been keeping an art journal across this time. It would be so interesting to see my road of progress. So, I will begin one from here to see what I learn going forward. Your tips, explanations, and journals are such a big help and inspiration
Love your journals!! and love these types of journals which I call my anything goes journal. I love to look back when I am in a slump and get ideas even if they were done a long time ago. My two grandsons love to look at the colors and since they are learning their colors it becomes a perfect book for them. The older one knows his colors in French so I am teaching him colors in English! which I may add, are easier to learn. LOL!!
Hello Daniela, First time here to your channel. I have been journaling and making Junk Journals for quite some time, yet coming here, I still learned some things from you. Thank you for taking your time in explaining and demonstrating your process. I enjoyed it. I will definitely be coming back to your channel. Fantastic!
My Daughter and I are going back and forth with a small water color journal. We each do three pages of abstract art. We each do dates on the pages. I like to doodle on mine after I finish the abstract.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful Art! I have been drawing for years with charcoal and pencils. I took a acrylic painting class(before Covid). I have purchased watercolors and acrylic sets but I become paralyzed when I start using these mediums! I even have a a few oil sets! I can’t figure out why this happens? Love your creativity! 💖🫶🏽💖🫶🏽
Thanks for sharing! I feel that "freeze" before creating is very common. I think we all worry about making mistakes and we hesitate to put ink (or paint, pencil, pastel) on paper. Just dive in. Some of our work will not be our best, other work will be stunning!
Hi Daniella I am so thrilled that I found your channel. I'm currently setting up a project box for different projects to tackle during my new knee recovery. My small book to pain in has arrived and I'm so tempted to start however I want to.wait and have it record how I am doing ,along with bible verses. Anyway that you. Just quick question as we near chrisy.as will you be doing seasonal crafts. ??
Good luck with your knee recovery. Great idea to be prepared with stuff to work on, so you can recover calmly. I have lots planned for Christmas techniques. I have a workshop, Stitch the Season coming up for the 3rd year, to make a fabric book for Christmas, but I will have painting videos, and additional crafts, as well. ❤️
The Diamond Stencil is sold by Paper Rose bit.ly/49w6Cg8 (It may be discontinued, but here's a link) and the Circle Stencil is from Crafter's Workshop bit.ly/3UdfQti I think they discontinued the 12"x12" version, but the link is for a 6"x6"
How do you know if you’re choosing a journal with good paper? What do you look for, what weight, etc? (Especially if you don’t want to apply gesso first)
If you are looking for a journal for wet media (paint, inks, markers) or a variety of media, I like heavyweight paper. I'm not a fan of standard "mixed media" journals, as I find them to be just a step above cardstock. I prefer Ranger Dylusions Creative Journals. They are a good quality, heavyweight paper, that doesn't require gesso. For strictly watercolor journals, I stick to the 300 gsm or 140 lb paper. There are probably other journals out there, and I do enjoy trying them, but that is what I look for in a quality journal.
I believe that they are very similar, if not interchangable. They are comprised of both binders and fillers. Each brand may vary on the formula, so some brands may be thicker, more chalky, or have a different consistency.

Sewing and quilting is a beautiful form of art. Different medium than paint and paper - thread and fabric!
I love your freedom ! So many kinds . They are all your presence of being .
Thank you.
I’ve done many collage journals, but I’m interested in starting a painting journal. I have mixed media paper and acrylic paints! So here I go! Thanks❤
Go for it!

Gesso is mu best friend on a cheap journal ❤
Yes! Gesso strengthens the pages and makes the base layer more opaque. 😊

Love your work. Do you also design fabrics?
Thank you. I have some fabrics on Spoonflower, but have that on my to-do list for 2024. 😊 bit.ly/470Joyi & bit.ly/3MvT8IQ

@@DanielaMellen thank you- could you please tell me what is the difference between dimensional paste and modeling paste?
I believe that they are very similar, if not interchangable. They are comprised of both binders and fillers. Each brand may vary on the formula, so some brands may be thicker, more chalky, or have a different consistency.
