    Whenever I got to California I always stop at Smart & Final to stock up on stuff, they're very similar. Also you can set up an account with Sysco, Alliant, Allegiant and other restaurant wholesalers and do a will-call pickup at their warehouse. You may have to create an account with them, just list yourself as a catering business and you should have no problem.

      Try checking with the manager of any local restaurants, they may be willing to add your order for supplies to their own. Most of these restaurant wholesalers make regular deliveries to restaurants with semi trucks and you could get your order delivered with the restaurants order. Just a thought.

    The chain that we have in the Northwest is called Smart Foodservice Warehouse (formerly Cash & Carry
    ). Definitely a much better selection of prepper supplies than at Costco. I think that because places like this cater to an industry that purchases due to need, they don't seem to offer much in the way of discount sales. How if something does happen to go on sale, it's not much of a discount. Still, the prices often beat those in the grocery store.

      All you need to apply to be a customer is a EIN (Employer Identification Number) from the IRS, that or sometimes they will accept a TIN (Taxpayer Identification Number or Social Security Number), just say you're a self-employed, sole proprietorship business (catering usually works) and they should accept you as a customer. This usually works with other wholesalers as well.

      I was there just a few days ago, and they had about everything. Only some of the cleaning and sterilization products were gone. They pretty much had everything else. A few bare spots here and there, but the manager said that those products were scheduled to be delivered to the store within a couple of days. They have a surplus now that all the local restaurants were closed or greatly diminished in capacity.

      Hi Suzanne...many of the large restaurant suppliers have these types of stores. GFS was our favorite, but Sysco and CashWa have "outlet" stores...also check with a local restaurant in your area and see if they can order some things on their order. Our local Dairy Queen told me who to contact in our area....their manager. A young family, I wish I would've known about this when I was feeding 5 kids and their friends. Just keep asking....

  • @PennsylvaniaPrepper
    @PennsylvaniaPrepper 4 года назад

    Great video and a lot of time invested. If you go again, could you state the size and price of each item as you did for the tuna and rice? I have found that quite a few food service items are NOT a lot cheaper when the per ounce or per pound price is figured. One example was Domino sugar at Sam's club. 10 lb was $5, 25 lb was $14. 4 lb at Walmart was 1.59.

    • @Ahex75
      @Ahex75 4 года назад

      It's is not always the price, butother things. Tax etc. Accounting are easier when buying same place. They also offer sale items, bonus stuff, discount etc. Based on money spent. Collecting service, so you just have to pick them up or they even deliver them to your restaurant. Collecting service is in most cases free (here in Finland) so you don't pay salary to your waiter, chef or waste your time to gather stuff, time is money.
      Bigger packages reduce preparation time and produces less trash. It takes a lot less time to open couple 50 lbs sacks of flour than 100+ 1 lbs bags. Premade pie crusts beef patties help to waste when you do just a small amount at a time. Again it saves time to use premade pie crust and pie filling compared made from scratch.

    We have a Gordon's food, U.S Foods, Restaurant Depot just to name a few. Also, we have Sysco, and local regional dist.
    I suggest start a small side business if you dont have one because some wholesalers require tax resale certificates or a tax I.D numbers for businesses. It pays in the long run just on saving and time.
    I shop at these places. Buy in bulk and save money and have my preps.
    I started a "Home Catering Business" for the wife and I for shopping.
    Ok, we dont have any clients yet, but we practice cooking and eating food. And when do get a "Paying Client" we will be ready. All nice and legal.
    Good luck to all.
    Just my 2 cents.

    • @ColoradoBikerPrepper
      @ColoradoBikerPrepper  5 лет назад

      You have to be careful what you purchase at these places, some of it can be healthful, and some of it can be horrible for you. If you're trying to eat good wholesome food there's a lot at these places you'll need to avoid. However it is a great inexpensive place to purchase many of the good staples you make healthful food with. Just be cautious and read labels. I mostly avoid the processed convenience foods at these places as they're heavily processed and have a lot of shit chemicals in them, and look for the good foods instead. I used to be a professional chef, so I have a good knowledge of what to avoid in these places. Thanks for the comment!

    • @ColoradoBikerPrepper
      @ColoradoBikerPrepper  5 лет назад +8

      #10 cans of coffee if stored correctly (dry & Cool/cold) can last 10-15 years. UNroasted GREEN coffee beans vacuum packed in mylar bags with oxygen absorbers and desiccant packs could last as long as 20 years. If you want a longer term storage for caffeinated beverage, I strongly recommend storing dry loose tea, vacuum packed in mylar bags with oxygen absorbers and desiccant packs. Packaged correctly loose tea could last 50+ years.

      I have some ground coffee that I forgot about in my garage (definitely not optimal storage conditions) and when we moved I found it and used some and it was fine. I’m certain it was open in that garage for at least 3 years, possibly 4. And that was open.

    need a business license for wholesale I believe

    • @ColoradoBikerPrepper
      @ColoradoBikerPrepper  5 лет назад +6

      At other wholesalers all you need to apply to be a customer is a EIN (Employer Identification Number) from the IRS, that or sometimes they will accept a TIN (Taxpayer Identification Number or Social Security Number), just say you're a self-employed, sole proprietorship business (catering usually works) and they should accept you as a customer. This usually works with other wholesalers as well.

    DO YOU NEED LIC,, TO BUY FROM THEM PLACES

    • @ColoradoBikerPrepper
      @ColoradoBikerPrepper  3 года назад +1

      Sometimes, depends on the supplier. You can set up a "Catering" business for cheap and then use the Tax ID to register it with the supplier. Some of the suppliers will also do a "will-call" order that you have to pick up at the dock, but don't require a business license. There are ways around it, and you can usually find a way to do it. I do "will-call" orders from Seattle seafoods a couple times a year to get salmon (and other) for making smoked salmon, it's a few hundred $$ each time, but it will last me for a year or more. Making my own smoked, preserved salmon is about ¼ the cost of buying it already done. Check around and do some research and see what it costs to set up a business license and what suppliers require one. Most do NOT require a license.

      If they do not, just go to the will-call desk and ask, they will order them in for you, you'll pre-pay for them and then all you have to do is just go pick them up. However, you may have to order a full case.

    I was told flour don't last more than a year cause I got 150 pounds and my buddy said you fool.

    • @ColoradoBikerPrepper
      @ColoradoBikerPrepper  5 лет назад +3

      Flour will last quite a long time if it's packaged for long term storage properly. The main problem with flour going bad is oxidation and contamination. If you're storing flour for long term, it's essential you package it in mylar bags with oxygen absorbers (go overkill with these, 2X the normal amount) AND desiccant pouches. You MUST eliminate as much air from the mylar bag as possible before sealing, and then the O2 absorbers will do the rest. My long term flour packages end up with about the same hardness and density as a brick! Vacuum packaging is really the only way to store flour long term, and even then it will only last about 5 years under ideal conditions. I have made up what I call "bread packs", which have everything I need in them to make 2 loaves of bread in them, including separate, pre-measured sealed mylar pouches of yeast, oil, dehydrated egg powder, sugar, salt and flour. The only thing you'll need to add is water once opened, but it's essential you seal each ingredient into their own individual pack before vacuum packing them all together in a larger mylar bag. Your best bet is to vacuum pack whole wheat berries the same way and then have a grain mill to grind it into flour after opening. I also buy #10 cans of whole wheat berries from the Mormon cannery for the really long term storage. I bake bread and make pastries at home all the time and I will go through about 100 Lbs. of flour a year. Hope this helps.

      Jamie Evans it depends what type of. I bought just plain white flour in a 50 pound bag. I put in my larg freezer and it lasted me for three years. Flour will go rancid after about a year if not stored properly.
