@@MuffinJuice What do you mean by “properly disposing”? It’s really not an environmental disaster amount of mercury, but it’s always better to practice good safety precautions. It’s good to see people getting into chemistry, but *please* don’t start off with toxic explosives.
@@MuffinJuice we really don't care that much to be honest, the only persons that are worried are the professionals that get fed a whole lot of bad/over exaggerated information because they don't want any accidents happening, also the recommended dose of mercury is 0mg, meaning that when workplaces use mercury, the workers have to have ZERO exposure to mercury,as any amount of mercury is considered "unhealthy". The kind of glove he is wearing is usually standard except for when you are handling nitric acid because its able to light it on fire.
Do you watch Cody’s lab? Mercury itself is not that dangerous except when you have chronic exposure. The scare of mercury is mostly because of the incredibly dangerous mercury organic compounds some people work with.
This is a load of horse shit you decided to randomly make up that apparently, a hundred and eighty people believed because it sounds right. Just don't drink mercury dumbass. It's not somehow constantly fuming nor is it particularly dangerous to handle, it's just not to be ingested or poured into an open wound like many goddamn things in life.
As a chemist, I have to say that this video is extremely hard to watch. The careless handling of chemicals, as if they were completely harmless, is alarming. The so-called “protective” clothing he’s using offers hardly any real protection. Such negligence can easily lead to serious injury-this is a real hazard that’s being seriously underestimated here.
@@Lux-Rockets Absolutely agreed. His careless handling of these chemicals not only endangers his own life but also creates a potential hazard for the surrounding environment. Leaving reactive chemicals unattended can easily contaminate the area, creating a long-lasting risk that could require costly remediation efforts. This type of irresponsible behavior gives professional chemists a bad reputation.
@@mracollege9310 I really doubt it. He was more afraid of the harmless metallic mercury than he was of the mercury nitrate solution. He most likely just dumped it on the ground.
Doing it outside is a good practice. Please use a glass rod to transfer the liquid, that way you would not spill the acid on your table. You should know beforehand that mixing mercury and nitric acid generate a lot of nitrogen dioxide. You also need to pre-measure correct amount of mercury with another beaker instead of pouring it directly into nitric acid. Also, detonating mercury fulminate generate mercury vapor, that's why I don't make it. Mercury will pollute the land near your house. There are primary explosives way safer than mercury salts or lead salts.
Nitrogen triiodide (NI3) is a safer compound to create and store, if remained dampened. Dependent on the type of mask filter, your protection is ineffective protection against the fumes which is highly toxic.
that was used in the 19th century to shoot guns some British dude made it so guns would not misfire as often and to make them shoot better because blackpowder that they were using before was a low explosive and produced a lot of smoke so fulminate had to happen
Super cool stuff! But as a note, the fumes generated by that reaction are extremely dangerous. You really DO need a respirator for stuff like that, as some fumes in reactions like this can legitimately harm you. So be really careful about that kind of thing if you can.

If you want to make a nuke, first buy a gram of an element such as uranium or plutonium, then buy an extremely strong spring and a large steel tube and a small and sharp object in hopes of splitting an atom, rapidly causing a nuclear fission process and creating enough energy to destroy the pentagon next you need a wedge to make sure the spring is extended until detonation of the bomb, and there you have it, a manhattan-project level nuke
I was gonna post a funny comment but this has to be said. Mercury fulminate was discovered in the 1800s and made to invent the percussion cap for cap lock rifles used by the American army at that time. In fact, modern primers in bullets such as the 5.56x45 and the 7.62x39 use mercury fulminate to ignite the cordite propulsion that makes the bullet fire.
