No wondernies, polymers, yet, and the .40, 10mm, and .357 SIG were yet to be. The K frame S&W in 2" and 2 1/2" barrel were fastest on the draw with the most center mass hits on target. Well I would guess 1500.00 probably more if I could find one. I had a 3" Colt Python .357 with the small grips.I never fired and traded it for something I bet 30 years ago, stupid huh.
I gave my two oldest granddaughters each a 3" Model 10, but I kept my 2" factory nikeld Model 10 for myself. It is perfect backup for my 4" Model 65. Both loaded with 38 Spl +P and using the same speedloaders.
I find myself carrying my Taurus Model 85 more and more these days. It’s light enough that it’s hardly noticeable on my hip, and it’s been very dependable and accurate. I’m getting a real appreciation for revolvers.
I'm actually considering buying another 856 with a spur-less hammer for pocket carry. I really liked the look of the newer stainless ones. They've made a few design changes and looks very streamline.
great vid, thanks for posting. I love my snubs. takes practice oh yea... twist my arm like I need an excuse to go shooting. I am mainly a ruger guy, sp101/lcr(x), but I would love a model 10 snub. just classic. thanks again and happy tidings to you and your family.
Great shooting as always Greg! That is a fantastic snubbie you have there. I've been looking into getting another and will be heading to a local gun show tomorrow. Here's hoping to finding something cool!
LOVE the original grips back on the "Joe" !!!!!! Just a gorgeous revolver! I too roll my pinkie under the grips on my snubbies, then cup it when shooting two handed... really helps me stabilize. I did try an extended grip on my LCR a couple of years ago, but gave up as it wouldn't pocket carry well. Thanks Greg !
Thanks for another great video, Greg...LOVE those older S&W wheelguns..the leaf spring K frames have such a better trigger pull than the coil spring smaller J frames....& you made some good points about a 2 inch barrel being less likely to be grabbed by an attacker during a close quarters scuffle & that a MAJOR disadvantage of semi autos is that they can be pushed out of battery in a struggle & won't fire, whereas that doesn't happen with a revolver...you also mentioned the wound channel from a gunshot & some people don't realize how absolutely devestating a contact gunshot is..if the gun barrel is touching the attacker's body...or even a few inches away...the expanding gasses that propel the bullet down the barrel follow the bullet into the wound, causing even more tissue damage as well as contaminating the wound with all sorts of gunpowder residue that can lead to infection IF the attacker survives the gunshot initially...those gasses continue to expand inside the wound & burst outward leaving a distinctive starfish shaped opening... Your videos are awesome and those are "JUST THE FACTS"...👍👍
Hi Jeff - a reality check, in more ways than one, is for a gun owner to google autopsy photos of gunshot wounds. Its gruesome and ghoulish but it wakes you up to the responsibilities of firearm ownership. It also dispels the foolishness of the fear mongers who take the absolute worst situations that law enforcement encounters and uses that as a template for how ordinary citizens should carry and train.
I just love revolvers, and love snubs more. I have a S&W M15 snubby, as well as a M10 round butt snubby and do you remember the M12? I have one of those with a 2" barrel also. I like full wadcutters and in the M15 and M10 ( steel frames) I like the old 158gr SWCHP +P . easy guns to shoot .
I had a model 12 once upon a time. They were good guns, but early in the experimentation of using aluminum frames. I wish S&W would bring back the k frame airweights. The technology is better and could produce a sturdier gun.
Thanks Greg, the great thing about carrying a snubby for me is that I can hardly tell I'm carrying a firearm. I've been carrying a s&w j frame model 437-2 for the last 3 years . I also carry a s&w 9mm ez at times as it just fits my hand perfectly. Like you said people have to pick what firearm fits their particular situation and what they can shoot well. Thanks for your videos I really enjoy them. 👍👍
Great video, as always Greg. My carry rotation is all snubby. Rock Island Amory m 206 (fits perfectly in a K frame holster by the way [I use a Don Hume JIT]), Taurus 856 ultra lite, Charter Arms Undercover, & Charter Arms Police Undercover. (The last 3 fit 1791 Gun Leather J frame holster, slightly stretched).
Hi Matthew! Good choices all around. I've been wanting to add a Charter arms to my collection; you just don't see them often around here. By rotating carry and practice those snubs will last a very long time.
@@LionquestFitness Back in July I bought my Undercover. I like it so well, I just got my Police Undercover. It's a birthday present from my wife, and I'm determined to not shoot it till my birthday, but I don't know if my resolve will hold till then.
Thank you Greg for yet another wonderful video. We all learned so much from your experience and your knowledge! Keep doing what you’re doing my friend. Be safe
Love the Joe Friday. Another informative and entertaining video. I was wondering if something crazy happened, and we were invaded, what firearm choices would you bring with you if you had to defend your hometown?
That is an interesting supposition. With modern heat sensors, drones and night vision equipment, as well as sophisticated body armor, the best service most could do would be guerilla warfare as opposed to cannon fodder. It would be travel light. Stock S&W Sport II with two point sling and Glock 19.
@@LionquestFitness Great advice, Greg. But for me, I am too old to be lugging around a multi-purpose Sport II in case of invasion, so I just have to depend on my Beretta 92F in any guerilla operation. I also have a Glock 19 but I can hit targets better shooting my Beretta.
Joe Friday is always a classic.I always take your advice because you do the research.Model 10 seems to always be dependable.Greg,if you still have the Taurus Model 82,is there any chance you can do an up close up review on it?Never get tired of a Mr Holster quote.
Hi Mark! I let the 82 get away in a trade for another AR last summer. I kind of regret it. Compared to the current Model 10 or Model 64 it is a better shooting gun. I just hated that matte black finish.
I still have a model 82. Very accurate and more fun to shoot than my 605 and 856. Of course with hundreds if not thousands more rounds through it than the other 2 it should be well broke in . Plus 4” barre compared to 2” on 605 and 3” on 856.
I agree, the sub-nose is an excellent everyday carry. I rotate from Smith and Wesson Model 60, and 642, or Ruger Sp101's I practice with them and feel completely safe with one on my side. I now want a sub model 10. Thanks for the great videos!!!
Really some good old school information here. What do you think about semi-wad cutter vs full-wad cutter for self defense? What was the old school of thought between the two? I continue to appreciate your opinions and videos. I have a 3 J-frames and 1 very cherished model 10 Snubbie.
Well, the thought back in the the day was to go with semi wadcutters in a snub because the edges would cut and tumble. I was reminded of this in a recent gun Sam video.
My first issue revolver as a boot detective was a nickel plated S&W Model 10 round butt .38 Special. I purchased a 2.5" Colt Diamondback .38 Special and carried it. Ive used off duty the round butt Model 10 2" in .38 Special but blue finish... I favor a blue gun. Still have one to this day in like new condition.
Great point you make about it being an "ugly gun" pointing at you and the psychological effects therein. Of course that model 10 is FAR from ugly, but when you look down the barrel of a loaded revolver you're gonna see those .38s looking right back!
@@ronniereams5334 It was cross draw. In the black and white dragnet he had an outside the belt holster. Also in the original it was a Chief Special. In the series with Harry Morgan it was a round butt Model 10.
I have one and it's the one I'm taking with me. After I bought it I sold all my j-frames. I also turned the square butt into a round butt and have won many "Compact Carry" class at my local steel plate matches, leaving the auto boys shaking their heads. You just can't beat the point-ability of the snubby.
My brother-in-law has one in almost mint condition. My problem is he wouldn't sell it to me so I have to stick to my 5-shot Model 60. Very nice revolver shooting Greg.
Nothing wrong with a Model 60. Also, a Taurus 856 is an economical and more ergonomic choice for a six shot snub. S&W is leaving money on the table by not modernizing and streamlining a Model 10 snub.
Can't get enough of revolver videos. Good to see videos of smaller sized wheelguns. I really don't care to conceal carry with a .44-magnum. Got a newer S&W-10 made for .38-spl +P. Really like that round butt. Replaced those original standard walnut grips to a combat style grip made from exotic rosewood. Much better for my Godzilla sized hands. The .38-spl +P gets you close to the performance of a .357-mag eithout all the wear and tear. If asking would I go with that #10 for a SHTF event? You bet cha!
I mostly carried snub nosed revolvers after retiring from 35 years in law enforcement. I recently acquired a S&W model 12 which has become my favorite daily carry.
Good one. That's an old classic. I had one for a time, but I'm too rough on carry guns and the finish started getting nicked. I sold it to someone who bought it as a collectable.
Oh come on, your way to young to remember Dragnet, lol.... Classic Quote ; "that's right Beatnik, I make a Buck - 50 an hour" (end quote) Lol, Dragnet 1954 movie..... Thnx's Greg, you brought back memories of staying home sick from school & watching, the Millon Dollar Movie, Channel 9.....
Great vid, Greg! I bought a Speed Six 2.75” revolver from my local gun shop in great shape. I also use it in my carry rotation actually! (2) questions for ya’…Is it sabe to carry a 1987 made revolver? Is 2.75” considered a snub nose revolver? Take care and thanks for keeping Mr. Holster in our rotation and please say hi to Mrs H for all of us! Keep on truckin’💪🏻🇵🇷
Good scene from the Dragnet 1966 tv movie (you can actually find it on youtube), the police have a serial killer cornered on top of a bluff during a thunderstorm. Joe Friday takes his coat off and climbs up the bluff with mud and rock and checks his gun (M-10 snub) after slipping in the mud and it’s all as gritty and grimed up as he is but he knows it’s reliable and and ready to help him jump the killer from behind.
Wow! Sounds like a great show. I’m a younger guy (23), but consider myself to be an old soul, as they say. Any way you could link me that clip? Looks like I’m gonna have to start watching this Joe Friday fella!
Two biggest advantages of carrying a two inch K frame is that the leaf spring trigger pull is soooo much better than the coil spring J frame and that, unlike almost every semi auto pistol, when it comes to close quarters self defense, the revolver will still fire if the barrel is accidentally or purposely pressed directly against the attacker's body...an action that places almost every semi auto, except the Springfield XD, out of battery & inert... A contact wound like that is even more destructive & deadly than a shot from several feet away...the rapidly expanding gasses follow the bullet into the wound ...still expanding & ripping the tissue in a distinctive starfish shaped wound and the powder residue and everything else going into the wound increases the chances of serious infection...
Excellent lesson, not many guys say the important things. I watched a guy review the difference between a 1.5" and 3" the ballistics were very close he said modern ammo was made for very short barrels , he said that in a hurry it's easier to see and aim with the longer barrel as reference , the different of pointing your fist vs your finger . That I don't know, I train with a slim line Glock 43x 15rds. And the full size Glock model 45 17rds. Both 9mm. I like revolvers but only for a hobby . I realize it's the first few shots that count, however Massad tells many story's about that not being enough to stop a threat , with possible misses or more than one attacker and people on heavy drugs that don't stop attacking that have been shot several times. Those people are Plumb CRAZY 🤪. Thx Buddy
Nice revolver. When you can double action like that I guess glocking is no problem! When you have to. Say, do you enjoy .44s? Like specials or even maybe M69? Glad yer back!
You said something a lot don't get. You master a double action revolver and a Glock is easy. I've never had an opportunity to shoot a .44. I was looking for a single action army in .44, but since the ammo crunch hit I felt I'd be buying a paperweight.
Sweat and humidity can corrode that traditional bluing as well as long term duty holster wear from the weather. Wiping down a handgun after carry and periodically oiling the outside of the gun can help prevent this. Also stored revolvers still need to be cleaned periodically and not stored in leather holsters.
That’s a handy revolver. Have you ever tried the Chiappa Rhino 200DS. It’s quite ugly snubbie (unless you watched _Blade Runner_ as a kid) and slightly larger/heavier. But it totes 6 rounds of .357 magnum and its weird design allows for more manageable recoil and quick follow up shots. The old timers knew what they were doing. Their gunfighter philosophies were already well developed even if a little odd. For example, I’ve yet to see anyone rocking a Fitz revolver these days. Though there’s no doubt they were effective. Some of these old guys are still with us. I used to read Masad Ayoob’s articles in gun magazines (no way to confuse his name with another guy’s) as a teenager and he still does instructional videos on RUclips. And I’m only a few years younger than you.
Chiappa is out of my price range - but in terms of psychological intimidation, I'd say it would be an ugly gun to look down the barrel of. I was reading Massad in all kinds of print media back the eighties. I still enjoy watching him on the Bill Wilson channel.
...this is just like the one I bought earlier this year...a pre-Model 10 (M&P) special order for the Detroit PD - one of 123 nickled sand factory engraved...these things are highly collectible...

That 2.5 inch Colt Diamondback was relatively rare back then. I wouldn't even begin to guess what one would go for today.
Well I would guess 1500.00 probably more if I could find one. I had a 3" Colt Python .357 with the small grips.I never fired and traded it for something I bet 30 years ago, stupid huh.
@@sgtmajtrapp3391 Ouch!
I have a few nice S&W revolvers, but that model 10 snub nose is from now on would be my next target Greg.
It took me about five years to find that one! Good luck on your search!
I gave my two oldest granddaughters each a 3" Model 10, but I kept my 2" factory nikeld Model 10 for myself. It is perfect backup for my 4" Model 65. Both loaded with 38 Spl +P and using the same speedloaders.
Great shooting sir. Thank you for an update on Joe Friday.
I find myself carrying my Taurus Model 85 more and more these days. It’s light enough that it’s hardly noticeable on my hip, and it’s been very dependable and accurate. I’m getting a real appreciation for revolvers.
I really like the 85. I bought one of the last ones produced for my daughter.
I own a EAA Windicator, Taurus 856 and a S&W 642 all 2inches, I have carried them. To me the Windicator is a little too thick for pocket carry
Eventually I hope to get a Windicator to compare to my Model 66 snub. Definitely a belt carry.
@@LionquestFitness if you want to test one, I don't have a problem with sending mine to you for testing.
@@royseleech3524 Thank you for the offer and trust, but I don't like being responsible for other people's firearms; especially sending one via FED EX.
Great presentation, Greg! Your Model 10 is very nice, but I’ll have to go,back to the Taurus 856 video.
Thank you so much. I've got an SP101 video in the works.
Great shooting as always Greg! That is a fantastic snubbie you have there. I've been looking into getting another and will be heading to a local gun show tomorrow. Here's hoping to finding something cool!
Good luck on your quest Marc!
My first S&W was a 2 inch Model 10, it was a great carry gun
I grip a K frame square but the same way.
I'll always consider the model 10 snubby THE detective revover.
Glad to know I'm not the only one doing that! Thanks Joe!
You can adapt to most guns, but there is something about a gun that just "feels" right.
Beautiful piece. I was thinking it would have the recessed cylinder being a 1968 model. A quick check revealed no such variant existed.
Enjoyed the video Greg, thanks so much
Thank you Greg for yet another wonderful video. We all learned so much from your experience and your knowledge! Keep doing what you’re doing my friend. Be safe
Thank you for coming by today!
I carry and trust my 2" Taurus 856 with spring kit and 2" 1972 nickel Colt DS, though I am not as good a shot as you Greg.
Great video. I just picked up my Taurus 856 defender today. I hope one day you do a review on the 3 inch beauty.
Not many 38 spl hollow point expand. They still make a nice hole. Still cary 38 spl every day.
The velocity is just not high enough unless you go 110 grain; especially out of a snub.
Nothing else like a Smith & Wesson Snubby great video my friend nice shooting
If Smith would just bring back the two inch 10 and 64....
And the 2 1/2 inch 19 and 66
Love the Joe Friday.
@@scooterbob4432 Good choice though.
Sweet model 10 snub! I love my snubs!!!
Thanks for another outstanding video, Greg! Wonderful shooting and solid information. Love those snubs!
Hi Tom! Thanks.
@@LionquestFitness Nothing beats a classic blued finish.
I still have a model 82. Very accurate and more fun to shoot than my 605 and 856. Of course with hundreds if not thousands more rounds through it than the other 2 it should be well broke in . Plus 4” barre compared to 2” on 605 and 3” on 856.
Good to see a video from you Greg. Great revolver shooting.
Thanks Brian.
@@LionquestFitness Anytime. Keep up the good work.
Great gun!
Thank you for your highly valued advice.
Good job, and great gun!
Thank you Greg That’s the highlight of my week 😎👍
Great point you make about it being an "ugly gun" pointing at you and the psychological effects therein. Of course that model 10 is FAR from ugly, but when you look down the barrel of a loaded revolver you're gonna see those .38s looking right back!
My memory is Jack Webb wore a cross draw holster with a flap that tucked inside the waistband, not through the belt.
I agree.
I couldn't agree more. Generally speaking, more than 20 feet in a self defense situation you have options.
... a required read for snub revolver users is the book “The Snub Revolver” by Ed Lovette, highly informative and entertaining ...
He has a new edition out on the snub noir websight.
I'm all about a wheel good time. Nice video!
Thanks for the video. Can I know the speed of your 158 gn bullet out of this 2" inch barrel?
I don't remember what round I was shooting, but more than likely with the 1 7/8 barrel, it was in the range of 600 to 700 fps.
@@LionquestFitness thanks
I love that model 10 snubby. Wish I had one. Also, like the model 19 snubby. "Just the facts"
That one took me four years to be in the right time and place and being able to afford it.
Great tips and instruction and personal advice Greg.
Thanks Steve.
@@LionquestFitness I'll check out the Taurus 6 shot 856. Thanks for the tip, Greg.
Thank you brother for another awesome video. Take care
Fantastic info!
Oh come on, your way to young to remember Dragnet, lol....
Classic Quote ; "that's right Beatnik, I make a Buck - 50 an hour" (end quote)
Lol, Dragnet 1954 movie.....
Thnx's Greg, you brought back memories of staying home sick from school & watching, the Millon Dollar Movie, Channel 9.....
LOL - I watched re-runs of the reboot in the late sixties as a boy. I always liked Harry Morgan as Bill Gannon.
Yes - absolutely on the age. Joe Friday for example, was made in 1968 and I carry it sometimes. 2.75 I would consider a snub.
@@LionquestFitness thanks, Chief and Air Assault!
Another great vid with sound, real world advise. Excellent shooting also. Love the content and keep putting this stuff out.
Is it +P capable? I'm guessing not but wondered. Thanks
I carry Plus P in it. Maybe not Buffalo Bore suitable though. I err on the side of caution and rarely shoot Plus P through it for practice.
Great channel. Thanks for sharing.
I love that scene. Joe was the man.
Wow! Sounds like a great show. I’m a younger guy (23), but consider myself to be an old soul, as they say. Any way you could link me that clip? Looks like I’m gonna have to start watching this Joe Friday fella!

Thank you, sir!
Greg you always give great advise.
Thanks Les.
Perfect stance…….Well trained.
Thanks - most times I'm told I'm this or that wrong - but I do what works for me.

Hi Noelle! Thanks for stopping by!
Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Never seen that filler grip before. Might have to try that out from BK.
Get the black. It looks better than the aged ivory. They also fill the hand better than the Tyler tees.
Great video well done
Very nice Greg!

another great video. thank you.
Glad you stopped by to watch neighbor.
Thank God it’s Friday!
I love that movie - it's too bad they don't make funny movies like that anymore.
I used to have a 1947 factory ROUND BUTT PRE MODEL 10, what a joy to shoot. I carry a K6s now and prefer revolvers to semis.
You couldn't beat those old pre-Model 10's
Hey I have the new taurus 856 defender 3"barrel glow front sites I carry mine every day it's SWEET!!
What’s been your experience with corrosion on the black/blued model 10 or similar? Thanks.
I still enjoy watching him on the Bill Wilson channel.
yay Friday, I love my Taurus 856
The Taurus 856 are great guns and affordable!
