French car makers have dramatically improved the quality, design and interiors. Peugeot now is a mid premium. Renault makes wonderful cars. German cars now are overly expensive compared to what Renault and Pug offer. French brands cost much less, and deliver as much in terms of design, tech and everything. Why pay 30k more just to get the Audi or BMW badge?
When comparing French and German car brands in similar ranges, there are generally price differences. German cars are often more expensive than their French counterparts due to factors like reputation, build quality, performance, and customization options. Here’s a breakdown of prices by segment: 1. City Cars (Renault Clio vs. Volkswagen Polo) Renault Clio: Starting at €18,000. Volkswagen Polo: Starting at €22,000. The Polo is usually more expensive because of its perceived better quality finish and integrated technologies, though the size and engines are fairly similar. 2. Compact Cars (Peugeot 308 vs. Volkswagen Golf) Peugeot 308: Starting at €27,000. Volkswagen Golf: Starting at €30,000. The Golf has a more premium image in this category, which reflects in its price. It often offers more refined finishes, powerful engines, and advanced technologies. 3. Compact SUVs (Citroën C5 Aircross vs. Audi Q3) Citroën C5 Aircross: Starting at €30,000. Audi Q3: Starting at €40,000. German SUVs like the Audi Q3 have a more luxurious image and better performance, which explains the price difference compared to a French model like the Citroën C5 Aircross. 4. Sedans (Renault Talisman vs. BMW 3 Series) Renault Talisman: Starting at €35,000. BMW 3 Series: Starting at €45,000. The BMW 3 Series is much more expensive than the Renault Talisman, especially due to better performance, more premium design, and onboard technologies. 5. Electric Cars (Peugeot e-208 vs. Volkswagen ID.3) Peugeot e-208: Starting at €33,000. Volkswagen ID.3: Starting at €39,000. The difference in electric vehicles often comes down to battery technology and autonomous driving options, which are more advanced in German models. Reasons for the Price Difference: Perception of Quality and Brand Image: German cars, like Audi, BMW, and Mercedes, are often seen as more premium due to their reputation for performance and reliability. Technology and Finish: German brands typically integrate cutting-edge technology, higher-end finishes, and more powerful engines, justifying a higher price. Customization: German cars usually offer more customization options (engines, finishes, technologies), increasing the overall cost. In summary, for comparable car ranges, German cars are often 10% to 20% more expensive than their French equivalents due to perceived quality and the options offered.
@@stephen10. French cars now are as reliable as German cars, despite what most people want to believe. It's just PERCEIVED quality... Actually, German cars have as many technical issues as the French or the Japanese. I owned a BMW, it had so many issues, it costed me more than 10k to fix. And compare the most equiped German cars to their French counterparts, you'll see a huge difference in prices. "German cars usually offer more powerful engines" : I agree with that. "Integrate cutting edge tech" : I disagree with that. Renault absolutely wipes the floor with what VW offers, for example. Renaults are full of tech, same applies to Peug. I have an Austral and I love it. The Rafale has the same engine as mine so that is a plus for me. The other plus for me is the exclusive Summit Blue colour which is stunning.
Peugeot 3008 Hybrid all the way for me! Such a comfy spacious car, the heated steering and seats are superb when like me I suffer with survear osteoarthritis through out my body! Plenty of head room, since I use to bang my head on a Nissan Quasgie! Ample room for my wheelchair.
A good review as always - a very fair comparison. I much prefer the Renault Rafale to the Peugeot 3008. Even if the comparison was between the Rafale and 408, I'd still would go for the Renault - the 408, to me is awkward looking.
Good comparison video, they are not 100% close but close enough, I think at the end of the day as they are so similar it’s down to what the buyer prefers like Apple or Android for example, whilst the Renault has some nice touches I think I prefer the 3008 but would have to get it in GT trim
3008 all day every day. Looks better and definitely is more stylish snd unique. New Peugeots looks fantastic. And same for interrior quality. Really really good
I found that on my Renault the fuel economy has improved drastically after about 1500-2000 miles. Going from 48.8mpg to 57.5mpg. I haven’t changed my driving style at all so it may also improve on the Rafale
Very interesting I like Renault better, but the Peugeot is slightly cheaper, I think I would have to have a test drive myself before I made up my mind, I think you are amazing at doing these car reviews as I can understand you better than others, also I am interested in the Smart # 1 and #3 would love it if you could review these please Tish 😊
Renault Rafalle all the way. I went in dealership and sat in one, the interior quality and ergonomics as well as design both inside and outside are supreme. My next family car (will order one next year) 😊
I prefer the Peugeot Tish, the reason I had to drive to Paris from Cheshire in my wife’s 2008 as my BMW was being used for grand kids pickups by my wife, the car was pleasant to drive it’s not a racing car but very comfortable the auto box I cannot fault smooth on normal mode I found in sport mode it was a bit jerky. I enjoyed driving it after initially sulking when I realised I had to take it. Over the Renault I find the interior looks better in Peugeot I personally find the exterior on the Peugeot looks better too. It’s all personal opinions but I can actually recommend the 2008 great car to drive plenty of room , no issues driving back and too to Paris . Great review mate keep them coming 😊
I don't know why the French have such a problem with moving the fusebox on RHD cars. I used to have a 2009 Pug 308, the owner's manual didn't even fit in the glovebox.
Bought Peugeot yesterday, and rafale does not even come close to price for what it gives. In hungary cheapest rafale was around 40k euro, meanwhile got my 3008 for 29k euros, which is nobrainer. Car looks much better, meanwhile the infotainment might look bigger and everything, but peugeot is more stylish and everything. :)
I really like the look of both cars, they are both well made, the Renault has more appealing performance and electric versatility, but due to dodgy knees the Pug will win it for me. Oh....and the tail lights are prettier! 😂 I think they both cost too much, I don't necessarily need ALL of the extra tech, and quality should also reflect longevity at these prices, so maybe both manufacturers should be offering longer and more comprehensive warranties, and full service and maintenance support far beyond the typical 6 to 7 years Renault and Stellantis tend to offer. BTW once you get used to a column shift, it's much more convenient and nicer to use than a console shift.
It's spooky how similar they look which given that the same designer drew them is no surprise but speaking as a former Renault owner I'd have it over the Peugeot.

Need a proper hybrid. The car makers and governments are failing the public. Currently trying to get funding to build off the work of Ferdinand Porsches research into hybrid technology. We should have hybrids giving us 150mpg without ever the need to recharge. Just fill up like a normal ICE. Instead we are given the Renault Rafale is 60mpg and Peugeot 3008 40mpg. Both ok, but nowhere near what we should be getting or the planet needs. Both of these cars look fine and I am sure drive fine, just wish we got proper efficiency.
No rear wiper 😮 I’m nearly at the end of my 2nd 3008. Love both of them. The 1st a white Allure, the present a sexy 22 reg black auto. The overall shape, the lights, the grill, especially the bum. Definitely a downgrade imo. Hence, looking at other makes. Sorry Peugeot 😢

My thoughts exactly. I don't think she likes the new 3008 and she's slightly biased towards it that was evident in the review she did for it before the comparison. I have the new 3008 and it's a hell of a car. Despite not having the punchier engine available (the engine choices are the only disadvantage I found in this car) for the hybrid version it had still more than enough power available.
