This is the game I'm most hopeful for right now. I played an earlier build and was having a hard time getting around the "rough edges" but I can see the potential here to be a personal favorite game. It is a game that invites you to live the life of a wandering mage and EVERYTHING that entails. Personal interactions: I managed to charm a local healer into being basically my BFF by culling the giant spider population around town, and he was worried about the local mage guild being infiltrated by the town's Mayor and I could have gotten involved in this political shift in the town, this game is just so goddamn deep and it just never ends! The potential for immersive storytelling is off the chart. While I personally want to see it get some more time in the oven, this price drop seems like the perfect time to give AR another look. Thanks for covering this again, Splattercat.
@@RealBurgunfaust Yeah that is why I kinda bounced off it early. If you look at the steam forum, there is a pretty good explanation for that if you are interested. Still I get why some people will have issues, as there are issues. It is just my hope that with more time to develop, those edges will get smoothed out.
Fantasy and Sci fi Sims are great. I'm never gonna take the time to play the Sims but a deep simulation of wizard like this or mercenaries like battle brothers did are always fun.
@@goreobsessed2308the Sims 4 has a great build/decorate sistem, but gameplay is lacking. Would be nice to have something in this stile but whit better history.
I was still hanging around the gamedev community when the developer was posting WIP theme music like a decade ago. Definitely a passion project for this guy! Very cool to see him execute on his dream.
The game has enormous potential, although granted, it has quite a lengthy roadmap with a lot of features that need to be added in. It came out in early access with a lot of features not in yet so got a bit of a mixed reception. Hopefully it gets more attention as it gets fleshed out.
I swear, even games I don't think I'll be interested in, I continue to enjoy watching every video you post. The way you speak, the way talk about the game, everything is just perfect, genuinely cannot thank you enough for showcasing all these indie games out there.
I picked this game up recently and I'm just blown away by the game it's self and the dev. It's 5 or so people working away on this but their dedication is crazy. And I think one of the best qualities is that they are very active in the community for feedback BUT still follow their vision. If something someone wants doesn't fit their vision for the game, they don't try and force it into the game. It just gives me the warm fuzzy nostalgia from games like Daggerfall and classic high fantasy books.
Archmage is an awesome game. I've been following it from the early days, and communicate with the devs a lot (with feedback and suggestions and bug testing). It's shaping up to be one of the best sim games I've seen. Just the freedom to do whatever. Be a nobody working on a farm. Be an adventuring mage. Be some evil warlord conquering the land. Be a villain who enslaves villages. It's just so much fun.
This looks fantastic, my curiosity is definitely piqued! I love the sheer volume of freedom and choices that it gives you and I cant wait to see what else the developer does with this game.
I think I read a dev blog of the idea of this game years and years ago? Great concept and if it's the same one, great to see it made and looking like all the complex systems envisioned coming to life. Real passion project and it will depend how deep the systems allow the player to play the life diversely each time. Thanks for showcasing.
With the pre-alpha version you had to get the materials like stone and wood to build every single tile, floors and so on. They greatly simplyfied that with the tower update to make that feature work properly, because the old version was more a proof of concept approach.
Hoping you review this game again some day in the future. Looks like something I’ll be interested in further down the road of development but will surely forget about right after closing this video. Another review to remind me about it when it’s more flushed out would be the bees knees
You got me loving this game months ago…I miss finding books in the bookcases. And I don’t know how to build the mage towers. I have thousands but don’t know how to build.
I believe you have to go to the town center and speak to the mayor then ask "What services do you offer?" the first option should be a tower request for 2000 gold
Oh, Fallen London is still very much alive, delicious friend! And it's had a lot of stuff added. Like Piracy, building a railway to Hell, and we're going to The Roof in our own airship soon. This game reminds me of Dragon Court. Which is nice.
7:53 "This guy just dodged lightning.. like literally dodging the speed of light right there." Lightning doesn't move at the speed of light. Back to school, Splatto!
Wishlisted it already from your last time you covered it. Waiting them devs to do some updates before sink my teeth into it. Thanks for remind us though.
12:50 "Androgynous" means having both male and female characteristics, being of indeterminate gender. Like that old TV comedy skit "It's Pat" from SNL (or maybe it was Mad TV?). So yeah, "ambiguous" is the word you wanted. Though "nebulous" would have worked just as well.
Itd be hilarious if you ignore the main quest for long enough, someone else becomes the main character and you just hear about their quest and stuff. Thatd be pretty neat actually... You just ignore the quests, start up a potion shop or w/e, and one day the new main character visits your mundane life to buy a bunch of potions for their battle against evil or w/e. Truly a life sim where anything can happen.
Man the across the obelisk devs can take notes from this dev as they just released a dlc that adds a fraction of the base games content for the same price as the base game.
I definitely remember the overmap...I liked that map. But this game feels sorta very different and yet the same. They've added alot since I last checked it out. Or maybe it was just me losing my hearing lmfao. Also this game reminds me of the hours spent in Kongregate back in the day...playing random RPG games like Sonny (first to come to mind). But also stuff like Dragon Fable or Adventure Quest! Great times! Gaming was simpler back then.
Really glad i waited with this game, used to cost 28 euros and is now down to a base price of 9,75. In my opinion at the time the content was not worth the original price tag, but less than 10 sounds fair.
Potential for the game is fantastic BUT I will see where it is at in a year or two and grab it then. I say this only because the dev has already been working on this game for a decade.
20:30 That's a dude, my friend. "Juliana" is really "Jules" in drag. Check out that five-o-clock shadow and the adam's apple. But hey if you want to buy "her" a drink and flirt a little, more power to you. Just don't say I didn't warn you.
I love playing mages. It is my second favorite game archetype outside of a space sim (which there is a mercenary/bounty hunter or explorer) I am sold and I plan on getting this game and I hate Early Access games. But for $10 why not?
12:49 Haha yeah its ambiguous Splatty. Androgynous means someone that's good male and female characteristics. I spat my drink onto my keyboard, I appreciate the laugh
if you could get sort of a dynastie and maybe more fighters in your team with advanced tactics and stuff i think the game could be worth 20 bucks or more, but yeah fair dev going down
I've been saying for years that that I want less games where you are "the chosen one" battling "the evil" for the fate of the world. I want to be a common soldier/mercenary trying to make my way and only ascend to hero status though my own grueling effort, not because some prophecy (Morrowind's story as example). For 10 bucks, I'm going to buy that game.

I played both the demo and the initial release. I got a refund. It was WAY too early and buggy. Like game breaking bugs.

As much work that has been put into this and at $10.00, I think it's well worth it. If just to support the dev and reward their dedication.
This actually sounds like a mage game i always wanted to play when i was younger thank you for showing this. I'm adding this to my wishlist.

Yeah I flipping hate survival games, crafting games, and colony sims.... But I like hearing Splat talk
7:53 - Lightning does not propagates at a speed of light! It's around 270 km/h
That's a lot slower than i thought it was.

This looks like dungeons and dragons meets Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall.
Two of my favourite things
This is the kind of game that myself a few others were trying to make. A game where for once you AREN'T the hero / chosen one.
Love this channel. He always plays stuff that is really unique.

I like that the portraits change to reflect their mood.
Holy mother of Raistlin, that's a crazy callback!
I think this game will be amazing in 1-2 years.

Does the game have a wiki yet? If there’s no fully fleshed-out help tab in game yet, that’s a big step.

I bought this game after your first video on it, and oh boy is it going to be something special.
This game has some Dwarf Fortress level of potential
I just picked this up and am really enjoying it. I'm looking forward to seeing where the developer is headed. Definitely worth the price.
This one actually is really interesting to me. I’ll be definitely buying it once it’s at full release!
Great video as always. Just want to point out that lightning is plasma and doesn't travel anywhere near light speed. 270,000 mph, around 0.0004C.

Interesting and ambitious. I look forward to seeing how it progresses.
"Ambiguous, was indeed, the word he was looking for..." - Morgan Freeman (probably...)

They aligned the line of sight with the end of the barrel on this one.
"Allows you to store and pet your mounts." Heh, got my attention.

Very cool. One of these passion project indie games will one day be a Binding of Isaac, deep, fun, and replay able, I have hope

Hope you do another play of this in like a year. Its not for me right now but I am definitely intrigued
This game caught my attention with its premise. Waiting to see how it cooks up.
I have been playing this since it came out, and it is amazing!
I played it for a couple of hours. So far, the goals are far better than the execution. It's a fetch/kill quest right now.
This will be a wonderful game once they add proper modding support and mods start flowing

Ive been playing this. Its def a fun casual game

Thanks for showcasing the magic of this game. ^^
I've been really enjoying the game. It does have a long way to go in development, but it's playable & fun.
