That is actually a CromaClear display. It was NECs attempt to break into the professional display market with a new CRT technology which sought to address some of the shortcomings of aperture grille displays which were popular at the time. While the result was very good, it wasn't enough of an improvement to gain sufficient market share, and NEC stopped producing new CromaClear CRTs only a few years later. They would licence the technology to LG, though, who marketed it as Flatron.
Wow, I bought a bunch of stuff from this guy like a year ago! He was very nice. Glad to see there's still some fe700's left, It was mostly older shadow mask stuff when I was there.
Awesome find, cool to see NEC equipment! Nice to see that they are being saved instead of just being trashed, those CRTs and systems all look cool! Not to mention still with boxes!
Oh my… That lot would have my heart racing! I really am tempted to make a trip up there lol. I’m from Philly so I could stay with family. Someone please talk me out of it because the garage is already full! 🤣
They are still listed but under a new listing. I can’t share the link here but search on Facebook marketplace for “retro pc monitor nec” in the Philly area.
Nice displays! But as far as those "LS-120" floppies, I'd recommend switching to the IOmega Zip Drive. If you want more information, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Dude, that's crazy. Neither of my computers currently has a VGA out, but I'd still love to have a 21" NEC monitor with Trinitron tube, like I had in 2003. I loved that thing - until it came time to move it.
An intact CRT that will show a beautiful image at that 50/50 Contrast/Brightness is a wonderful find in itself... I went through a lot of monitors to get my 'the one'. My Trinitron Dell one had a crackled coating, which I removed - but I was woefully under-experienced, despite my age, to be able to disassemble/reassemble without cracking brittle plastic. I killed the power switch on mine... 19" Sony Dell... I still have it, but I need new plastics... All my vintage stuff is Mac, and - honestly - will likely stay that way, because it is what I now know how to handle... I am deathly afraid of killing a vintage Pentium machine - I lose that fear around Pentium 4 - probably because it was problematic. I am a PowerPC Mac guy, LOL... I use a CRT with my project gaming computer, which also is running an Intel Arc card (and a Pentium g7400) - and, honestly, I have had very, very few problems - albeit this is a Windows box, and formerly a Linux one (modifying modern Linux to understand that despite the antiquated commands it could use -- the monitor, really, honestly, is a CRT from the 90s - pain in the posterior of retro modern shenanigans). The test bench for this system, which was designed for cRPGs (what I usually play), was Baldur's Gate III. I was very, very good until Act 3, and then, it was crash central. I found some modified very high settings that Arc and the Pentium could agree on.... But I digress. Very cool video, Steve. Very cool scores.
So jealous lol. I have always regarded the NEC MultiSync line as the Rolls Royce of CRT monitors. They came at a time when getting random monitors to work with random video cards was not straightforward (even today you can run into issues, but it's rare). Obviously the MultiSync was designed to deal with those issues once and for all, and they did so beautifully, as we can see here.
Always interesting to see these enterprise models that have different design elements than what were on consumer PCs of the time (eg: vertical, built-in floppy drive). Nice also to have a full set of match NEC products.
Wow this is an awesome video! I lost all my vintage macs/pc’s in a fire so im starting over and id love a nec p2 system and definitely a zenith. Im really looking for my first pc, a xt emerson from home shopping club! Lol.

I noted that it was an NEC Mitsubishi display - I thought it would have been a Diamondtron? www.microsa.es/biblioteca/NEC_Monitores_serie_FE+.pdf
Nice! I want to say that some of those Zenith PCs have similar design language to Packard Bells from the era.. Designed by Frog Design!
ANIME 2
They finally made a sequel...
Saw this listing when I was looking for a Macintosh SE. if I still collected older PCs like those I probably would’ve gone there
man... those business that you can only find in remote places... I want one of those NEC PC too :(
Ah, back in the days when a good, 20" Multi-Sync monitor would only cost you $2k. And in every shade of beige you can imagine!

I bet that pigtail on the network card is a wake on LAN cable! If you haven't played with wake on LAN, it's pretty cool!

Nice cameo, Sean 😂 I was waiting to see if Steve would "doctor" the video's still image to look like the meme 'for the horde!'. 😂🤣
Would love one of those monitor's. Thanks for sharing
Had a similar NEC monitor as a kid. Was a great display.
Great Find Steve the cat looks great
That shirt is amazing. I need one.
You're a brave man, putting that much weight on a 4-foot folding table. Congrats on a fun score, though!
Haha thanks! It’s put up with far more! 😅
Candy store for tech geeks! :D
Steve @3:36 I have a matching keyboard for that system if you want it
I do have two keyboards, thanks! I am on the lookout for matching “Microsoft for NEC” mice.
there is a service menu to see the hour count for that monitor.
Probably, but I haven’t looked that up yet.
