Hi Ben. I remember what a great tight end you were at The Ohio State University, and appreciate the class and dignity you bring to the rivalry. As a Michigan fan of 46 years, I thoroughly enjoyed your content and perspective. Congratulations to your Buckeyes for a great season, and best of luck against Utah.
Excellent work from an unassuming NFL ten year career plus All Pro TE. No TTUN or red X’s - just competitive respectful appreciative commentary getting field seats next to peer Jansen. And putting a human, college/pro perspective on an iconic game, situation, weather and result. Give this guy an ESPN backdrop, earpiece and similarly talented production team and Herbstreit gets sat down.

I know college football belongs to SEC right now but imagine what this game play at night would be like - the way a late November college football game ought to be.
@mark lafrance it was more about being the 1st night game and the atmosphere that was amazing. Getting the win was great too. Yes we have had to endure many years of average teams but I’m hoping that is behind us.

There is soooo much history and tradition to learn about Michigan. If you walk along State Street, just north of Yost Arena there is an old iron gate that is part of the Athletics building that is still in use. This iron gate was the original entrance to where it ALL began at Ferry Field (before there was a Big House). Fans (mostly men back in the old days) would take the train into Ann Arbor from Detroit, walk down State Street, and through those very same gates over 100 years ago to watch U of M football at Ferry Field. Fielding H Yost was the visionary to what ultimately moved the football stadium to where it sits today…..he always had a vision of building a stadium for “half a million fans”…..not too shabby , mr yost!!!
@@jasonbourne9392 thank you for that. I never knew about the iron gates but I believe I went through them a few times this fall going to the baseball field, for a couple of fall games. I'll definitely pay more attention next time. As a student, I lived in a small duplex on Hoover Street, just 3-4 houses from state street, not far from Yost, and directly across from the IM building (the site of the old stadium). VERY well-done video. This Buckeye alum clearly has his heart in a good place (a Michigan fan writes this). I enjoyed this as much, if not more than the official football highlights video, because it conveyed atmosphere. If you recall, atmosphere was remarked upon by a number of the media in attendance. Ben's summation of what CFB is at the end is absolutely spot-on. I hope that CFB does not become too NFL-like, although much of the landscape is trending in that direction. Post-TSIO victory celebrations used to mean a week of euphoria, while awaiting Rose Bowl ticket info by mail. Having the B1G title game to prep for just felt weird. That's probably why the M fan base is still celebrating the Ohio win. This video is an excellent primer for the CFB neophyte. That is perhaps the highest compliment that I can give it. LOVED the historical stuff, and the use of the various songs from both schools. As one who has entered the Big House from the tunnel, there was a lot of familiarity, in some of the shots. Seeing some of the big plays from a new angle did not hurt, either. This video is the perfect encore to the 2008 HBO special about The Rivalry. It leaves me wanting more, too. I appreciate your perspective on the game. Honest, healthy and showed good sportsmanship. As a former Ohioan who now resides in Michigan, I get the importance of this game from both sides. I wish the fan base and tone could be more respectful towards each other.....as shown by you, a former OSU player hanging out with your Michigan buddy. Uplifting...your perspective lives beyond the game. Thank you
Back here to chime in that I really hope you create more content this season, particularly at The Game. As a Michigan grad, I really enjoy your style and humor and authentic affection for the game.
@@benhartsock88 With all seriousness. That was great coverage of the history of Michigan Football and an excellent show. It had to be tough to watch Ohio State loss such a game, however Michigan (We) still has quite a ways to go to become consistently "Elite" like the Buckeyes have been over the past 20 years. Maybe it can truly become a competitive rivalry again. #20 A. Mitchell c/o 88' U of M ✌🏾
I have many Ohio State fans as friends. Most would agree that this video shows the true nature of Big 10 Football. The rivals, the compassion, and the respect for the greatest team sport in the world. Many thanks Ben for doing this. It shows your are not only a former player, but truly understand the meaning of sportsmanship. Great video👍👍👍
This was AMAZING! Thank you! And you're right.. College Football is special. As amazing as this game was, the other games you mentioned going on at the same time, Alabama/Auburn/ Ok/OkSt, etc are all just as amazing. It truly is the best spectacle out there
The last thing I want is another osu alum in the media, but you did an amazingly unbiased video, and you are clearly very talented. Hope a network notices you soon, you deserve it. Go Blue!!
What a great guy that Ben Hartsock is. So upbeat and appreciative and kind. His team (OSU) got beat but he was totally open and objective and appreciative of the whole experience in Ann Arbor. So impressed by his generosity as a human being.
I came from WolverinesWire and I had to post this. Utmost respect to this great person, but you actually were able to witness 2 murders that beautiful weekend! The first was the dark foreshadowing of what was to come that weekend, and then when the Michigan defensive line bludgeoned the offensive line of pOSU. Lol, all in good, respectful fun. Thank you for letting us spend the weekend with you! Godspeed and may your chosen deity bless you as well!
one of the best and most comprehensive gameday related video from a fan/former player. thanks for sharing PS - thanks for showing the JSN juggling catch on 4th down. they never showed a replay on TV, and I thought for sure it was incomplete, but your video has convinced me it was good go blue!
Ben, great video. I grew up going to the same church as the Jansens. His dad played the piano. I remember when he was little Johnny. As for the unconfessed sin...think maybe the birds sensed a bunch of Buckeyes in town? LOL. Great video. MUCH respect. Last game i went to was Bradys last home game in 99'. Thank you for putting me there.
Wow, what a video. It’s awesome even as a former buckeye player you’re still amazed by the view, the sounds, and excitement in the air the whole day by both fan bases even in enemy territory. I think the game this year will be much more intense and the shoe is going to be absolutely insane. If you’re able to make a video this year from your home field I’d look forward to watching. I hate osu a little less with your kind hearted attitude which is much better than seeing middle fingers and F bombs everywhere. I wish you the best in whatever you do. Take care brother. Go Blue.
The best tailgating at Michigan is on the golf course across the street from Michigan Stadium. It is such a gorgeous wide open space and looks awesome with the cars parked under huge trees as they're lined up and down the rolling fairways. I've been to away games at a fair number of other schools and two bowl games (MSU, Notre Dame, Purdue, Ohio State, Rose Bowl, Citrus Bowl and a handful MAC venues) and visited their pregame tailgating locales and the golf course is still the top dog in my book. Though the San Gabriel mountains on New Year's Day make an amazing backdrop. I would love to one day make it to all the Big Ten schools for a game. If not all of them maybe the actual Ten in the Big Ten. Nothing like college football!
Awesome video! Really well done. Appreciate all the respect you showed to your bitter rivals on that day. It’s great to see two bitter rivals come together and create special moments like this. Can’t believe you were there to witness it first hand.
Great video, thank you so much. Great to see people who still love their school but respect their rivals and the tradition of " The Game" !! Will be subscribing to your channel as a Michigan fan !!
Great video Ben. I am a U of M fan but had the pleasure to watch you play. The thrill of victory and agony of defeat is what keeps us coming back. THE GAME can never be matched in college football. God bless
Thanks for the video. Nicely done. As a Michigan fan watching games for many years back to my student days, I remember your contributions to the rivalry. Much respect.
You’re a Buckeye? You got my respect. Gave great knowledge and facts about the program history. And showed your passion for the sport saying how it was still exciting even though your team lost
Hey Ben, Thanks for making this. As a U of M fan we have had lean years, and the game was amazing. The atmosphere, and your coverage of it was top notch. I hope you do more videos like this. I can really appreciate how you did this with a lot of class, objectivity, while maintaining you being an Ohio State Alum. I hope this turns into something much larger for you. Take care, and hope to see more of these from other schools and other rivalries.
Ben said it best at the end....football is America! I love the rivalry, I love "The Game", I love all the fans that make games and seasons like this so special. It was a long 10 years between victories so, Buckeye fans, give us some space to enjoy this one. Good luck in the Rose Bowl....Michigan, go kick some Georgia ass, and GO BLUE!!!
I love that even as a Buckeye you have so much knowledge of the history of Michigan football and “The Game”. Much respect to you for that! You can tell you truly are a fan of college football. @BenHartsock - a lifelong Buckeye fan, student, administrator came to Honolulu and became the AD for our UH program and we became pals! I have so much respect for him and he fought hard for the program and took a lot of criticism from the public. But he took it in stride because he always had the collective, the community....the ohana in mind. We gave each other friendly jabs over the rivalry but loved each other. I loved your objectivity in the recording and mixing of the video. A true testament to the class of a Buckeye who played in THE Game. People see the sometimes ugliness of the rivalry but that often comes with fanbases. But people who were part of both programs learn to compete with and respect the other. Sorry for rambling, your video just brought up so many emotions of when I made the trek from Honolulu to Ann Arbor in 2013 and 2016. I tip my winged hat to ya! God bless!
So thankful you enjoyed my perspective. I've found most guys that played in the game have the utmost respect for the rivalry. Jon Jansen is the best. He was just named the new radio analyst with Dierdorf retiring. If I read your comment correctly and you are still in Hawaii, enjoy the weather!

Im sure Ala v Aub and other rivals would love a behind the seen on the field view of there contest .
You did an outstanding job with this game! As a fan of Michigan it was great, but as a fan of CFB it was out of this world. Just what “The Game” means to CFB. Nothing beats it when both OSU/Mich are playing for the B1G East. It’s like the old days where the winner was playing for the Rose Bowl/Chance for NC I subbed to you looking for more great videos

Down here in Southern Michigan we had a flock of tens of thousands of those blackbirds migrate through here this year at around that time too. It was kind of scary being around them. They almost blocked out the sun.
As a life long Michigan fan, my fiancee ( who graduated from MSU) will never understand what this game means to a Michigan fan. She thinks I'm crazy for never sitting down and pacing during the game. After I show her this amazing video, maybe just maybe she will understand. Thank you for this amazing look at the game that many of us will never see.

Anyway this was an absolute amazing video, great commentary and who doesn't like Jansen.... But good stuff!
10:06 you mention Ferry Field… There’s a plaque commentating Jesse Owens breaking FOUR World records at 1935 Big Ten track championships held at said venue that stands at S.E. corner of track entrance…..Some things are bigger than the rivalry. Nice work! 👍

Cheers to the best rivalry in all of sports. Go Blue!
CFB has such a personal connection with fans, myself included. Glad you were able to relive some memories!
Thank you
Thank you Alvin. Jon and I have had lots of fun poking each other over the years. It’s his time in the sun!
Thanks for sharing this video from a Buckeye's perspective. Definitely one of the very best I have even seen about THE GAME on RUclips.
Thank you so much.
Great vid with an amazing perspective. Thanks for sharing your experience!
🙌🙌
Awesome BH! Mad Respect for you! Love you on Sirius Radio also!
🙌🙌
Back here to chime in that I really hope you create more content this season, particularly at The Game. As a Michigan grad, I really enjoy your style and humor and authentic affection for the game.
Hey Ron, I'll be at ND/OSU next week! Then UK@Florida and PSU@Auburn. So excited for the season!
We appreciate the view from the other side of things! Go Blue! ✌🏾
Thanks for checking it out!
Thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this video. As always GO BLUE!
Glad you enjoyed! Thanks for watching!
Enjoyed your video, glad you brought it to us! Hope your time in Ann Arbor was memorable.
I’ll be back!!
one of the best documentation of this game, thank you.
Thank you Dave!
great video! Was the best game I have been to in so long ... running out on that field was epic
Thanks Matt!!!
Great video, love the heart. All of college football can appreciate your feelings. Thank you.
Thank you Richard.
This was AMAZING! Thank you! And you're right.. College Football is special. As amazing as this game was, the other games you mentioned going on at the same time, Alabama/Auburn/ Ok/OkSt, etc are all just as amazing. It truly is the best spectacle out there
Really appreciate the kind words! Looking forward to this season to visit a few more places!
Oh man, what a game!!!! Thanks for the great video edit. Super professional!
Thank you!
Love this video, I am a die hard fan of michigan, so I enjoyed the content
Thanks William, glad you enjoyed it!
The last thing I want is another osu alum in the media, but you did an amazingly unbiased video, and you are clearly very talented. Hope a network notices you soon, you deserve it. Go Blue!!
Thanks for the kind words!
Awesome video! Great historical facts! Regardless of who are you root for this is how it’s done! Go blue
Thank you!
What a great guy that Ben Hartsock is. So upbeat and appreciative and kind. His team (OSU) got beat but he was totally open and objective and appreciative of the whole experience in Ann Arbor. So impressed by his generosity as a human being.
Humbled by your kind words Henry.
Cool video! Go blue. Love the insight and hope you had a good time besides the outcome
Was an absolute pleasure.
Very cool historical breakdown on this!! Cool vlog....but this history makes it next level!!
Glad you enjoyed!
Great vid...i can't believe Jon didn't put you up at his place....go blue!
Nah, Jansen was MORE than hospitable! And he might have tried to smother me if I stayed at his place!!! Couldn’t risk it!
@@benhartsock88 🤣🤣🤣
one of the best and most comprehensive gameday related video from a fan/former player. thanks for sharing
PS - thanks for showing the JSN juggling catch on 4th down. they never showed a replay on TV, and I thought for sure it was incomplete, but your video has convinced me it was good
go blue!
Really glad you enjoyed it! Rough day for us, but a good day for college football!
This was a pretty great view from the other side! Very well done. Best of luck to you in the future. Go Blue!
Thank you very much!
I think you may be right about the birds!!! And I don’t think Jansen has ever been little!!
@@benhartsock88 true. Even when he was 5 he was a big kid
Go Blue.
So glad you enjoyed Adam. It was a good day for college football, just not my Buckeyes. The game in the shoe is going to be bonkers!
HAIL YEAH! I just found myself on your video @ 28:00! Absolutely amazing experience that I'll never forget!
You and a couple of your closest friends!
Great video. The commentary was fantastic. Especially "I'm not sure #79 is even human". Also Jansen in the background with his commentary.
Jansen is a national treasure.
Great info! I’ll check out next time I return.
Awesome video! Really well done. Appreciate all the respect you showed to your bitter rivals on that day. It’s great to see two bitter rivals come together and create special moments like this. Can’t believe you were there to witness it first hand.
Thanks Charlie.
Great video, thank you so much. Great to see people who still love their school but respect their rivals and the tradition of " The Game" !! Will be subscribing to your channel as a Michigan fan !!
Thanks so much!
Great video Ben. I am a U of M fan but had the pleasure to watch you play. The thrill of victory and agony of defeat is what keeps us coming back. THE GAME can never be matched in college football. God bless
Couldn’t agree more! Thanks! Merry Christmas!
@@benhartsock88 Merry Christmas Ben 🙏
Thanks for the video. Nicely done. As a Michigan fan watching games for many years back to my student days, I remember your contributions to the rivalry. Much respect.
Thanks Mike. My memories are sweet, but feeling like a long time ago!
I truly enjoyed that... Thank you for sharing your perspective and being such a good sport!!
Thanks!
Super late to the party…and even with the loss still a fantastic video. Nice work, and thank you!! GO BUCKS!
Thanks Todd! We'll get things right with them in November!
Awesome video man! Thanks for showing us what it looks like from down on the field! Go Blue!!
It was so incredible. Thankful to share it
College football is supreme Americana. Great job with the histories of the schools. Will definitely tune in for more!
Looking forward to football season!!!
Great video. Glad you had a good time but not too good 😊. Keep up the good work!
Seeing an iconic game is never bad.
You’re a Buckeye? You got my respect. Gave great knowledge and facts about the program history. And showed your passion for the sport saying how it was still exciting even though your team lost
Thanks for checking it out. College football is the best!
Thanks for sharing. Go Blue!
🙌🙌
Hey Ben,
Thanks for making this.
Really appreciate it. More to come!
I know it sucks when your team loses, but that game was great for college football. “The Game” needs to be a rivalry, and it was to the point where it wasn’t anymore. Excellent video!!! Very well done sir!
College football is the best. Can't wait to chronicle more trips.
@@benhartsock88 I subscribed so I will be watching! I’m with you, I love college football. Actually, I love all football whether it’s high school or the NFL. Such a great game! So a question for you. Are you pulling for UM and the Big 10, or Georgia because anyone but UM???? I’m putting you on the spot!
Thanks for posting this Ben
As a dyed in the wool Michigan fan I can appreciate your perspective from the other side(line).
Also it's absolutely awesome to see some of those highlights from where you were watching the game!!
I was blessed to be in the end zone with most of the action. And the snow was so epic.
Great video and your a great sport Ben. As a Michigan fan and father of a Michigan Graduate I truly do appreciate you as fan of that school down south. I have much respect for you prospective.and Go Blue.
Thanks Mark. Quite a day. Glad I got to be there.
College football rules, nothing comes close. The passion, the tradition
Couldn’t agree more
Props man, this was cool to watch. Very well done.
Thank you!
Excellent video, loved to see that you can be a competitor and a rival but still be respectful
Thanks Scott!
Thanks for posting. It was nice reliving it. We were in pretty much the same part of the field albeit 49 rows up.
Go Blue!
But you were there!! People will be talking about that game for a long time!!!
Good footage.im a michigan fan but man you have a look of class and positive vibes make me love this rivalry. If only we all can be good hearted as you bro go blue respect to ostate. We forever be a fan of your bro
Thanks Anthony!
Great video! Thanks for sharing! GO BLUE!
Thanks a lot!
Outstanding storyline and historic buildup and backdrop to the greatest rivalry in sports, loved your perspective and video footage, thank you for your efforts and time.....Perhaps you should consider doing this for every prolific game of each season. Im sure Ala v Aub and other rivals would love a behind the seen on the field view of there contest .
Wow, thanks Chris.
That is my plan exactly! Hope to visit some other sports as well! Stay tuned!
This is great footage and commentary!
Thanks!!’
Great video! Thanks for sharing
🙌🙌
Fantastic video. Brilliant insights from an intelligent man. Got a real feel for this special gameday from here on the other side of the Atlantic
Thanks so much for the kind words!
You did an outstanding job with this game! As a fan of Michigan it was great, but as a fan of CFB it was out of this world. Just what “The Game” means to CFB. Nothing beats it when both OSU/Mich are playing for the B1G East. It’s like the old days where the winner was playing for the Rose Bowl/Chance for NC
I subbed to you looking for more great videos
Thank you, sincerely. I’m planing to visit more places in the near future. Stay tuned!
I really enjoy Ben Hartsock. I love when he and Jon Jansen are on College Sports Today. That should definitely be a full time show with those 2. Ben, this was a pretty cool video, getting to see this through the eye of the "enemy". I appreciate you realizing the magnitude of this win and your respect for it. Great job.
GO BLUE!!!!
It was a really iconic type of day. Wasn't OSU's day. But it was still iconic.
This was so great. Thanks for making this video.
Down here in Southern Michigan we had a flock of tens of thousands of those blackbirds migrate through here this year at around that time too. It was kind of scary being around them. They almost blocked out the sun.
They love the roof of Crisler Arena for some reason.
I’ve never seen so many! Maybe an omen for my Buckeyes!
As a Mich alum that was visceral. I didn't want it to end. Thank you!
It was really something. Glad I got to be there.
Nice job Ben. Love hearing you on ESPNU on Sirius👍
Thanks a ton!
VERY well done by a classy buckeye
Thank you Andy.
Well done Ben. Great piece…go blue!
Thanks Michael
Great video, Ben. Ann Arbor is a neat place to watch a game. We'll get them next year. Go Bucks.
Yep! Next year is going to be great!!!
Ben as a huge Michigan fan and someone who grew up on Pauline St. Every Saturday morning from the day I was born, no I did not go to Michigan as a student but my Dad and I had great memories down there. Anyway this was an absolute amazing video, great commentary and who doesn't like Jansen.... But good stuff!
Jon is really the best. So glad to know him.
Thanks so much for checking it out!
10:06 you mention Ferry Field…
There’s a plaque commentating Jesse Owens breaking FOUR World records at 1935 Big Ten track championships held at said venue that stands at S.E. corner of track entrance…..Some things are bigger than the rivalry.
Nice work! 👍
I’ll be sure to check that out next time. And you are absolutely right, that is the REAL deal!
