"Firefly is an older niche sci-fi thing, now." I'll be over here nursing my goream glass Geritol and Jack before I die.
Merely mentioning 'Firefly' causes my contempt for Fox to flare like the light of a star going nova again.
"You can't take the sky from me."
Fox: orly?
Me: welp!
Can fucking confirm.
Proud member of the "Brown Coats"! 😎
@@LloydLong We old, man! I try to console myself by assuming that had fox renewed, they would have wrecked the show by changing half the cast, cutting the budget, rewriting the dialog to make it more "edgy", and moving it head to head with something like Monday night football to make sure no one ever watched it at during it's normal air time.
firefly najbolja nf serija
YES! This is my core indie game. I've been playing this for years. By far my choice for getting the triple-A treatment. (at least in polish, art, and VO)
This guy is one hard working indie dev. And this is a pure labor of love.
Thanks for covering this again, Splat.
hows story and characters in this?
Same great to see that its picking up new eyes
@@dante4500 Also very interested in this
As from my understanding a lot of it is procedurally generated and you create your own soulless party members?
@@dante4500 He made the structure of the game before he invested in a story, so the story includes a lot of the systems he spent time making. So it is very organic to the world. It touches on the reavers Splat talked about early on and the psionics. It's only on Chapter 2 at the moment and he's adding more. As such, it's hard to give the story a specific review without it being finished, but the chapters themselves, individually, are satisfying. (again as Splat pointed out, as long as you don't get side-tracked by running off to do your own thing, which is very likely.)
And one of the best things is (again, as Splat mentioned) it's a very difficult game on start up. You have to invest time to earn your way up to doing many of the game's activities. So the feeling of accomplishment when you down your first space pirate, or get your mining empire running (it has both a ship-based mining system and a fully realized automated mining system where you set up bases and let them run in a very X [the space game X3/X4] feel to it. So an entire company running to supply you) or whatever late game thing you plan to do. (Sorry, that's less about the story, but it all fits together rather well.)
@@dante4500 Ah, didn't mention characters. That would be the lower point in this title. The personalities are rather generic. When they're there at all. The story NPCs you meet have motivations, but that's not really fleshed out, yet. I'd say if you're looking for a BG3 in space where NPC and Companion interaction is important to you, you're not going to get that from this game. You're the center of this universe, even if it doesn't feel like it at first every time you get steam-rolled.
Firefly was possibly the best sci-fi Western ever produced anywhere.
"y was possibly the best sci-fi Western ever produced anywhere."
having watched season 1 [so far] of Westworld, i am not prepared to agree or disagree w that statement yet.
Well are we counting cowboy bebop as a sci-fi western? 😉
@vinceb8123 Agreed, if Bebop counts, then Firefly has no throne.
Are we counting bloody Star Wars?
The mandolorian made an attempt at fireflies vibes and mearly grazed it. We need more firefly
"I don't care
I'm still free.
You can't take the sky from meeeee...."
Sheds single tear
*"I don't care, I'm still free. You can't take the sky from me"*
Leaf kabobs all the way!
i played over 500+ hrs so far and still finding new stuff to do.Hats off to Splattercat and the Developer.
Every Gorram viewer in the Verse has heard of The Serenity's tale.
Didn't know Firefly is niche now. Am I THAT old?
Oh man, the Total Biscuit call back. He was my first introduction to the wonderful world of indi games. It was rough when he passed.
RIP Total Biscuit the Cynical Brit
he's been at the Emperor's side ever since
rest in peace in a place where the FOV slider can be set however you want, finally
@@Audiotrocious I still play Space Pirates and Zombies (SPAZ) every now and then, and when I hear Total Biscuit's voice during the opening cinematic, I feel a bit happy and a bit sad that he's been at least partially immortalized in such a great game, even though I wish more people knew about SPAZ hehe
RIP Total Biscuit
" if someone try's to kill you, you kill them right back" Best true statement in a show! Capt Mel!
Really happy you showcased this game, the developer deserves more appreciation and exposure for sure! Keep up the awesome work ❤
I bought this game years ago. So long ago that I forgot that I have it in my library! I'm glad to see it's made some significant progress, maybe I'll install it again and give it a play through. Thanks for the reminder, Splatt!
Same here!
Amusingly, I just checked and I have it too!
I have it as well. Haven't played in 4 years. Installing now...
This is a great game and I have put many hours into it so far. The mods DO uninstall, you just have to shift-click them. Great video as always 👍
Outlaw Star influenced Firefly.
Both are underrated and need more.
Team of One(1) is doing this game. This is FUN one. Ship combat can be difficult to learn but is cool when learned. Trade, once figured out, is HUGE for cash. ;)
Alot of people doesnt know that! Its trully amazing what he done by himself. I wish more people buy this game even in early acess becouse it helps him work on game instead of going to job then work on his game.
splattercat mentioned the small team, but its only a single person?
thats obviously even more impressive
@@whiterabbit4945 yes :) its made by one person.
It's great seeing you covering this one. Been playing this for a long time, but I haven't played much lately. Will have to check in again.
Thanks for this Splat. I recently found this in my library - likely from last time you showed it - and can’t wait to play the 1.0. This is totally my jam.
there is a lot of sci fi games coming out but not many are hooking me in...idk what it is so im glad you take the time to play all of them and do these videos to save us a lot of time ;)
Great vid, really shows how fun this game can be. One important note, regarding the weapon mods, it's worth noting in the tooltip below them it says to "drag to attach mods shift-click to detach mods" so they *are* removable.
I might just be lucky because every genre represented in this game is one of my favorites, but with over 120 hours (and barely scratched the surface) I can safely say ST is one of my top games of all time.
Does the armor change the appearance except for faction armor? Everything i saw always looks the same
Thank you for showcasing so many great games to us
This looks pretty sick!
I kind of like a nice layer of jank to my games, it gives them character.
That universe map is a chunky one, this looks like a game I could get utterly engrossed in.
Sweet! piqued my interest, game looks great - then I hear a Firefly reference - checking this out for sure! Thanks for the heads up!
I have been in early access with this game for two years now, it has been a labor of love baby
This is my most anticipated video of the year!
Looks and sounds interesting! Will have to check it out, thanks Splatimus👍🏼
Looks pretty badass Splat! Thanks for sharing it with us.
This is such an amazing game. I've played it off and on for quite some time now, and it's definitely an underrated game. I can't wait until the full release.
I have had this game on my Steam wishlist awhile now. Thanks for covering it! Looks like the Devs put in a lot of work since I last checked in on it.
Thanks for showcasing this little gem. ^^
Looks amazing! Thanks for sharing.
Love to see you stream this.
This seems like a its a spiritual successor to a game called Star Command (1988) which displayed many of the same core game concepts Ship Customization, Small unit RPG elements, Space and ground combat, exploration etc.
Absolutely loved that game other than going up against the robot ships which are damn near impossible to hit
One of the most frightening games ... when you run out of fuel and need to scan every planet in your path in the hope to find some(body selling) fuel. Instead of fuel you find opponents, do another fight, level up, get gear ... but all of this was in vain if you can't get back!
Shiny! A fellow Firefly fan. Subscribed.
Good review! Bought this game way back in 2017. Gave it a positive review after 12 hours. Playeda bout another 15 before getting distracted. When my old HD died I just never reinstalled. Have glanced at progress over the years but just never felt compelled to get back to it. Reinstalled yesterday and having fun with it.
I bought this game years ago. Thanks for reminding me to boot it up & give her a spin!
I'm so glad to see this game! I've been keeping an eye on it since ages, glad it's finally close to be ready. Looks nice also
What a gem.. Thanks for the video Mister Bootyfart !
I love it when you find games like these
i bought this game forever ago. played it for a while and had fun. good to know its still being developed.
Immediate LIKE for the Firefly mention. I so, so wish it had kept going. Maybe one day something will come close to capturing it's magic again.
Game reminds me of one of my all time favorite oldie but goldies, Hard Nova(1990), which was a follow up/upgrade of another favorite oldie, 'Sentinel Worlds(1988)'. When i mentioned this in the steam forum, the dev kindly confirmed that 'Hard Nova' was in fact one of his inspirations.
The space layer, ship parts, and such reminds me a lot of Star Valor. Which is a good thing, I liked Star Valor, just not much left to do in it until the next big update.
The more I look at it, the more I like it :) Wishlisted, but will wait for full release...
You had me at Reavers, I loved Firefly back in the day.
Good lord I love how it looks.
Finally someone covering Stellar Tactics.
I sincerely applaud your naming convention. Quite some time ago I started using something of my own for characters also. Most interesting examples are BigD, SmallP, BigHand and FootLoose. Funny alterations for those that I recently came up with are: Biktee, Smolbee and Futluc. Feel free to use ;)
(2:55) Firefly fan right here!
Reavers, Wraith, etc. Game is in my library since very early days, got it alongside Star Traders: Frontiers. Glad you're enjoying it.
Oh wow! lol, I got this game way back when, before they actually had the ships in place yet. I'd forgotten all about it, it looks great so I'll have to jump back in!
Where are my Brown Coats?!
Never forget Serenity Valley! O7
Bought this a few years ago and been letting it cook as it has had potential even back then
Great game and the dev deserves the attention. I’ve been waiting for the story to be completed before I spend too much time in it.
This game has been in my wishlist for years now. Waiting for it to be finished, like I do with every game I play.
xD
You SplatCat, thanks for the heads-up on this game.
I see lots of the same icon assets from Star Valor in here.
I first saw Star Valor on your channel quite some time back and just hit 2k hours in game time.
I will give this one a shot but I have a backlog of bought but not played yet games in steam.
Keep on keepin on bro,
thx for the content
~Dave
i kinda figured Splattercat was a brown coat....
i was going to say...there are probably a lot of brown coats that watch Splat.
What is this term? I’ve never heard of it before.
@@MK_2023. Watch Firefly. You'll figure it out.
@@MK_2023.It's from Firefly
@@MK_2023. The main character was in the rebel army that lost the war but he still proudly wears the brown rebel coat.
This one's been on my wishlist for a while. It seems very Traveller-esque, one of my favorite TTRPGs. I loved FIrefly, but I'm not really a zombie-apocalypse or space wizard guy. I prefer more hard sci-fi, but I still plan on getting it someday.
Bought this after your last vid and played though the campaign content. Looks like its time for a reinstall!
I bought this game based on the fact that you played it when it was fresh in early access. Played it for a bit and realized that it was a little bit too raw. But now that I see you play it again, I think I'll see what's new and get a little more seriously into it.
Bought this game 4 or 5 years ago in EA, was a single developer, super responsive and had a ton of ideas. Game has progressed wonderfully even though its been in EA what feels like forever. Looking forward to it finally releasing this year.
This looks so promising. Instant Wishlist
this looks sick
This is possible my dream game
This game has been on my wish list for 8 years. Eight.
Firefly and Battlestar: Galactica are my two favorite Sci-fi universes, I have multiple Firefly-esque Spotify playlists lol
yoooooooooooo I bought this game in early access like a decade ago (I've since lost that steam account)
it was always ridiculously ambitious when I played it ,it was just a decent tactical level of the ship with the infected people. they also had the start of something ,was in a cave some type of mission I dunno , amazing to see it take a good shot at what they aimed for (like cat said , it aims for a lot. tactical unit combat , ships, colonies. don't remember what else they were aiming big
you should def do a play through of this game
I've had my eye on this game for years now, and finally snagged it in a Steam sale. It *LOOKS* the closest to exactly what I want in a game. Hope the dev(s) keep this going for a long time!
i usually dont mind those bought icons at all
but the more games you encounter and the more complex they are it gets to a point where its confusing
ive been playing star valor a little while ago for example and it uses all the same icons
but thats a game with a single developer
i hope this team is at a point where they can afford to do an icon overhaul
it would add to the games unique flavour too
Oh man I remember wishlisting this game yeeeeeears ago and kinda forgot about it waiting for release.
Oh man I bought this game 5 years ago. I forgot about it till now.
Such a great game and superb wonderful dev team
Pretty sure it is 1 guy.
yes i believe so@@kenmolinaro
27:05 "Fold' in Aurora series by Kaufmann/Kristoff.
This right here is my favorite type of content, a game that starts the video as "that looks cool" and by the end of the video it's "TAKE MY MONEY!!!". I would say more but I need to go buy the game and play it.
Nice!! i was kinda sad when they went mia, nice to see the game is worked om :D
Love starfly shame there weren’t more episodes. Good game too I must play it more. Didn’t know they had added space flight
Been watching this game from a far for years, waiting on a actual full release before i check it out for real
Splat saying firefly is older and niche... I have never felt more personally attacked. I don't know how I will recover from this.
This game is rad, I've been playing it off and on for a while. Just waiting on that sweet 1.0...
Been a while since you cover this game.
This is maybe the only game which I bought, then went to see gameplay reviews.
And where did I go first? Splattercat! (even though it's been years since I've seen a video from this channel).
I've been playing this a lot recently. I got it a long time ago and just started to get really into it lately.
Ill check this one out.
"This here might warrant a bit of consideration."
I've had this game on my GOG wishlist for a few months but I'm always really skeptical of in development games. Glad Splat did this, it looks solid enough and worked on enough to actually pick up. Especially if it's just one dude and he's actually got it close enough to get it near release.
and it's a great game. I have been playing this since 2023 and it's awesome.
I am a great wizard who can predict what games Splat will play
"the hero of canton, the man they call... meeee"
you forgot to add 'It's got 7 years in development!'
cool game, gotta buy when i got the chance :D
Got this a couple weeks ago. Great game. It can get tedious in spots. Tip...reload weapons after every fight.
And Mods do come off using shift click.
The game is really cool, been playing it on and off for a year now.
space pirates and zombies you say. game looks fun hopefully it works out. enjoyed spaz 1 dont think i ever beat the second one.
Being able to customize your henchmen is an important feature in a game. Kudos to the devs.
Look amazing, please keep revisiting this title!
ThankYou SirSpla77
great game!
Sold!... to the man who won Eve but still has an itch
"Body the chin off your face" ... love it :)
i love thisss gameee and I bought it I think cause of Nookrium and other channels haha. Great to see it here, I hope more people can chip in for development
I've had a fair bit of fun with this game.
