Very good explanation sir, one more thing that hydrocracker is used to make middle distillate products like superior kerosene oil 🛢, aviation turbine fuel ⛽, and high speed diesel wheres FCC produce light distillates like LPG and gasoline.

Why we not treat residue of atmospheric distillation in Fcc unit? Why VGO is required?

Beacause Gas Oil which is the top product of VDU shouldn't go into FCC feed. Similarly VDU bottom shouldn't go into FCC feed. Only small amount may be permissible if it is RFCC.

@brijal prajapati, Because RCO (reduced crude oil)is high billing point component as 500-550 degree Celsius, nearly same temperature kept in FCC unit but at this temperature, decomposition and coaking occur at the surface of the catalyst. So we use RCO in VDU instead of FCC.

Gowri, basically catalyst composition and Riser outlet temperature decide the product pattern. So basically one can vary these two according to demand. We usually do not do this.
