I was just like you, scared of noises, set up a camera 8-12 different camping sessions, not once was there no animals around sniffing my tent. I got over it, they are just curious, sniff around and walk along. Need to add that our biggest threat are bears, but they are not aggressive at all.
Great little adventure. It’s amazing how the mind plays tricks isn’t it? You know deep down that you’re safe but every unknown noise tells you otherwise. I suppose it’s a natural instinct to keep us safe 👍👍😊😊
Cheers Paul! I heard what sounded like a pile of rocks collapsing really close by and started hyperventilating- but quietly in case whatever it was noticed me 🫣
Inspirational as always. I am pretty sure the 'trail' through the bracken was an animal path! But that little Brompton gets you everywhere. Beautiful shots and I really loved the dark woods - just waiting for something to jump out at you. 😬
Aw this is lovely, SPF! I loved the whole idea of just cycling from where you are to the forest... Beautiful. You got so many lovely shots, loved that shot you did of the evening sky... Great music. Great tent haha of course I think that!! I really liked your reflective voice-over too. Yeh sometimes it gets you, in the dark, can be hard to relax. Actually I was out over the weekend camping at the edge of a wood too, and there were loads of owls hooting, which I liked actually, amazing how many owls and things there are when you just stay still and listen, and then all sorts of things shrieking, less keen on that haha, wonder what kinds of animals shriek like that, I imagined mice or voles or something? I use earplugs to block it out a bit so it all doesn't wake me up too much. Anyway, such a nice idea and lovely film!! Thanks for making the film and putting it up! Best wishes!
Thanks so much Susanna! You inspired me to start Brompton bike packing and start the channel so thank you 🙏 Working, training + racing can feel 100mph so the Brompton is time to just pedal, look up and drink it all in. It’s the little things like the sunrise, birdsong and espresso that are best. I agree on the Akto - so fast to pitch and strike and solid in tough conditions. Interesting isn’t it that everyone has their different way/preferences for transporting kit on the Brompton? All the best, thank you again and I look forwards to your next adventure!
Another great one, camping solo often produces a sleepless night, particularly in woodland settings. I’m planning to do an overnighter myself soon - might avoid the woods! I like the effects you get from using the GoPro max. Nice one as always mate.
Thanks Stu, much appreciated! I tried to tag you in the description re: inspiration but the text wouldn’t allow it for some reason. Get on out there and I hope you’ll post it up?! Thanks again 👍
When I started watching your film I thought it looked like home, South Wales, the sign to the steel works confirmed it, as well as the Britton Ferry Bridge
The adventurous path is definitely not always the easiest 😎 Loved your neat set-up, I’ve just bought the same front bag as yours as my Metro Messenger bag that I use for work was getting battered! Looked like a great adventure and I’ve no doubt the pleasure outweighed the lack of sleep and uncomfy feelings. We’re all inspiring each other 😉
Thanks Miriam, my classic thinking of ‘that path looks ok on the map’ 😂. That front bag has been a great purchase - completely watertight and holds everything for touring but still great for everyday commuting. Looking forwards to your next adventures!
Great video! So a bit of offroad riding is possible, that's great news to me if I get a Brompton. Thought I had to get custom tyres but guess I'll test the limits of the stock tyres first.
The fear is something we all have to deal with, it’s natural to have some anxieties about spending a night alone in deep dark forest, after all isn’t that where many of the horror movies are set? For myself I can definitely say the more more you do it the more more the fear recedes to a point where you can just enjoy it. I found this a great little video and you touch on a subject that’s a concern for many. Thanks
Thanks Terry, The solitude is part of what makes solo wild camping so exciting. Being sleep deprived and terrified once in a while will make me stronger - although not the objective when I set out 😆
Well said and believe me it will become a pleasure to embrace the solitude, although the nights can be long and dark I always look forward to the reward that sunrise brings
Looking at a similar setup would you share how you packed your front large waterproof borough and rear bike packing seat pack? Looking at the Restrap 14L. Thank you love your videos!
Hi @inxlee basically in the front bag: tent, stove, food, water, bike spares, anything awkward heavy or hard. In the seatpack: sleeping bag, thermarest and all soft clothing (compressed within an inch of its life) I hope that helps and thanks for watching 👍
I really enjoyed watdhing this. It was just the right length, it covered the key points in the journey, the imagery was great as was the selection of music. A couple of questions: What camera did you use (how did it pivot as you rode past) and what kind of water bottles holder was that on your Brompton? - Thank you
@@self-propelledfun I literally went for a site visit there a few months back. If you go past it next year, look out for the new entrance gate house below the yellow stair tower, should be finished by then
This is wonderful, great selection of shots and the Brompton looked to handle it all! What a piece of engineering. How far did you ride to get to camp? Looked like an all dayer.
Cheers mate! Hour and a half on the tarmac and then another hour and a half off road climbing/pushing/deliberating where to pitch up. Have to hook up for an adventure soon!
Hi Heike, thanks for watching! I use a Brompton Borough waterproof bag on the front and an Ortlieb Seatpack 18.5L on the rear/seat post. All filmed using a GoPro Max on a mini tripod
Loved the creepy night scene. Had some sort of Werner Herzog feel to it. :)
Thanks! That’s high praise indeed 👌 cheers for watching 👍
Very nice video, soft music, not too much words, very happy to find your channel
Thank you 🙏 and thanks for watching
Great video on a bicycle trip. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you 👍 thanks for watching!
Excellent 👏👏👏👏👍😊
Thank you Mithu 👍
That was great. Really captures the essence of just getting out for an adventure.
Thanks very much, much appreciated! Thanks for watching 👍

Thanks for watching! I do not like the sound of bears 😳 luckily there aren’t any In this country unless they’ve escaped from somewhere.

Thanks Hollie 👍 was amazed I didn’t see a pair of reflective animal eyes staring back at me!

It’s the thought that counts.
Some real nice shots in this
Thanks for watching Phil 👍
Thx for the ride
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching 👍

As long as you haven’t got slicks it can cope with a bit. Bumpy fire roads are ok fully laden, muddy paths not do 🤣 thanks for watching! 👍

If I'm right your not a million miles away from the old Margam abbey. Theres been a few weird rumors from the woods around there locally.
Sounds ominous! Glad I didn’t hear them before my stay 🤣

That’s very kind of you Bill, thank you! I never know whether to cover the return journey but it’s all part of it. Thanks for watching 👍
I know which Wearhouse that was 😂. Going past Swansea by any chance?
Ha! That’s the one! 👍

Hi there, thanks for your video! May I ask what bag you‘re using? Also, what’s your filming gear?
Hi Heike, thanks for watching! I use a Brompton Borough waterproof bag on the front and an Ortlieb Seatpack 18.5L on the rear/seat post. All filmed using a GoPro Max on a mini tripod
Where can I get that tent?
It’s a Hilleberg Akto you’ll find them online. Expensive but quality for years of use in tough conditions
