5 Things I Hate at a Track Day

  • Track day orgs are often very similar, but there are some key differences from time to time. Unfortunately sometimes these differences lead to dislikes and can leave you having a slightly less than desirable experience or worse, lead to you not riding with that org anymore. With this sport already being small we can't have bad experiences and lose potential riders and racers so I decided to share my opinions on the things I've seen and not liked at track days. In general most of the track days I've been to have been quite enjoyable, but there have been a few with a few details that I remember that set me off a little and led to a less than perfect day. If you're watching and agree or disagree let me know down in the comments, I'm very curious to know how the rest of the community feels on these points!! Enjoy the video!

    Best track day opinion I’ve seen, thanks
    I’m kinda quiet at track days. I tend to ride at the edge of my abilities, and really try to limit the drama, if possible. That seems to be off putting to some people, but that’s my little zone thing. Moral, don’t judge to harshly, try to keep up.

      Nothing wrong with being in the zone and getting after it!! Drama free is the way to go so I agree all day! Thanks for the feedback!

    get a little trolley to carry your stuff to tech, done. It will be useful for tire change at the track too.

    I’m 62 & started doing track days 10 yrs ago & mostly ride at NJMP or Pocono, 10 yrs ago you could do one for $150, now they’re approaching $300. So for me I’m only doing 3 or 4 a yr instead of 6 or 7. I agree with all your points here, nice vid & stay safe!

      Thanks for the feedback!! Glad to hear you're still sticking with it at least a little despite the rise in prices! I'd like to get up north and check out some of the tracks up there, I hear NJMP is a blast?

      10-4 I will definitely add it to my wishlist then and hope to get up there sooner than later!! Love when tracks take care of themselves and get the new pavement, that can make or break an experience pretty easy sometimes.

    First off thanks for the hook up on where to find the steering dampner delete plug thing! Hope it clears that stupid f1 light and no Speedo or mileage counter stuff! Second as a corner worker an someone working on their riding to be a future coach with my local tack day organization (2-fast) in the pnw, I’d say I agree with your list pro and negative aspects. No one and I mean no one likes unsolicited advice. I live our current coaching staff and think they do an amazing job of making themselves available IF you want that. The only thing they watch for on track is people riding over their heads or people who find themselves off track and need assistance. We do that roaming tech and initially I was a bit skeptical, but have come to really
    Like it for the reasons you already stated and it helps me put
    names with new faces. Great video and thanks again on showing me where to go to get the sd delete plug

    #4 & #5 spot on. I'll add a 6th. There's no standard even among the 'coaches'. A friend I was with, got his ass chewed for what one coach deemed a dirty pass. He walked off and a 2nd coach said that it was a clean pass and Coach #1 was being a dick. In my case, one coach said I needed to work on body position..same day, different coach..he said my body position was great that I just needed more speed. WTF?! I love the sport but it's hella aggravating at times.

      It does often feel like there are maybe too many "coaches" and they all have their own personal opinions that differ from coach to coach. All tips are great, but a standard and a clear distinction between personal opinion and coaching curriculum would be nice!!

    I can't disagree with any of that. I just moved to Vegas, and have my first track day coming up at Willow Springs. I ran advanced back in Wisconsin, and now need to start back in novice. Understandable, but also frustrating. Great content.

    I feel the barrier to trackdays is a lot higher than it was 30+ years ago when I started. I recall riders being a LOT younger, and having all sorts of bikes. And a trackday could often have an "empty" feeling when you ended up riding alone ie groups were smaller. Adjusted for inflation, trackdays were half of what they cost 30 years ago. And now it's all A/B/C groups whereas you'd often just get an A/B group regardless of your skill level. They're packing too many riders in trackdays while conversely such riders' average age is too high.
    Maybe it's just more and richer riders competing for fewer spots. I do notice it's all gnarly old men on BMW S1000RR's. Ok, I might be one of them except I ride an XSR900...but you get the point. And yet, adjusted for inflation, sportbikes are cheaper than when I was a kid.
    I blame the cost of housing for everyone young essentially exiting the motorcycle market. The cost of housing means younger renters have to spend about 8 times more on housing than I did when I was a kid on a sportbike. High housing costs means we've turned from a fun society into this weird feudal society where everyone either owns a garage with toys or is a broke younger renter.
    I'm convinced that's the major reason why most track instructors/dictators all seem to be Boomers with a Beard (BWB); they're all kinda nice to their own and kinda mean to younger guys like you.

    • @workingclasscustoms
      @workingclasscustoms  2 месяца назад

      That's an interesting view and one I haven't really thought about before. But it makes a lot of sense, the world is definitely different and still changing, we're doing our best to get more young people into it, but you're definitely not wrong that money is often tight in this age group and adding an expensive hobby to your budget is never easy!!

      @@workingclasscustoms It's the worse, even many of the control riders feel its nonsense. And then to listen to the painfully long riders meeting drone on and on, puts a negative damper on the morning. I actually confronted the biggest offender of long riders meeting and told him you are coming across as overly paternalistic and making people rush in the morning because you've taken too much time away to get ready to go out with a relaxed mind. I basically said you are creating a dangerous situation by stressing everyone out with limited time to get ready.

    • @workingclasscustoms
      @workingclasscustoms  2 месяца назад +1

      It is so true, when you are stuck listening to the same speech you've heard a dozen times and then you have barely any time to get ready for your first session you can easily get rushed and make some unnecessary mistakes! Glad you spoke with the individual hopefully they've gotten a little better.
