3 other things may help too..1st is the hand at release (a Moratoglu tip) which has definitely worked for me..that is to bend at the wrist so palm is UP the best you can which actually encourages the arm to stay up momentarily longer, and aids consistency and helps in facing the palm to the back fence before coming down. 2nd is lifting at the shoulder, not much but to the point where it cannot raise anymore just before you commence the serve which increases vertical accuracy. 3rd look at your opponent, then LOOK UP to where you want to toss, and then begin the process so you're not JERKING YOUR HEAD AND FLICKING AROUND ERRANT TOSSES. Also, if you rotate the torso (shoulders/upper body) as you would in the kick serve for eg., try beginning in the rotated position rather than rotating after the ball release which helps you in contacting the ball precisely at the spring release point, where its effect on the ball is at its strongest rather than later on after the shoulders have opened where its effect is less... yes, serving is like a meditation, you have to be present & conscious throughout the process and there are always elements to improve on! ❤

Thank you John for the ball placement tip, it is very important for raquet ball contact direction, need a lot of practice dough to fulfill the correct sincro achievement , thank you John for spending some of your time with us teaching what has to be done 🙏

I like this idea of catching the ball to figure your toss… but I usually do either a kick serve with the ball way off the right of my head or a slice serve with the ball to the left… as a lefty, I guess I could try to hit the slice from the same toss, but a kick seems unworkable without doing weird back bends.

Good tips, thanks. But the other part is getting the ball height right, there's a risk that simply focussing on throw and catch that the height is either too low, or too high. Many players when trying to get enough height tend to use other parts of the body rather than just the shoulder to raise the arm. Any tips on how to address this conundrum? Maybe it's in another video?

If you can still catch it after the toss it is obviously too short.

Is it a toss ? Or is it a release! You might say it’s semantics . I say it’s a release . When does the left hand release the ball ? What part of the body is used to impart the release ?
Because the entire body is involved in placing the ball at the proper height , distance from the body and the proper speed it goes up ,, I don’t place my attention (my focus) on the ball release at all - but on the motion and rhythm of the body.
If anything, my focus begins on how I stand , what my lower body is actually doing and how that motion impacts the right arm and wrist .
That ball release is the last remaining 2% of the entire motion !
Most club players pay too much attention to the “ball toss”which is why they never improve their serve. After 20 years , they still have the same crappy serve!
If your serve hasn’t improved in 4-8 months, your method is all messed up ! Stop focusing on the ball toss and see what happens !

Actually, I only call it a "toss" because that is the common word tennis players use and search for on RUclips. But it's neither a toss or a release...it's a placement! you questions are all answered in detail in this video: ruclips.net/video/qvm6PJ3pLbY/видео.htmlsi=L2re7RKawL4es-5c. Most club players have no idea what they are doing, so they focus on the wrong things. Tell me about your wrist please....thanks.

I completely agree with this comment. It took me awhile to realize today during serve practice that it’s best to think in terms of a release. Also, my arm goes smoothly straight up in parallel to the baseline.
