People say senna was inspiring at the wheel but what about kimi? The way he applies the throttle so early gives me chills. The most refined driver f1 has ever had
I wish they brought this qualifying format back, everything on the car and the driver is on maximum and depending on the conditions that lap is final, so many times drivers were caught out due to errors or weather making a mixed up grid (Webber in Malaysia 2004 a good example)
Was a bit unfair but I'm also a fan of it. They could drive q1 and q2 as normal like today and then let out the last 10 one by one. But in my opinion, Formula 1 in general has been ruined
@MPG Yes, I think the current format is only partially good. In the beginning it's still nice to see who gets kicked out, but in Q3 where it counts you don't see a complete lap of a driver anymore and it's boring as f*ck
I remember a year before, the hungarian commentator absolutely lost it when Raikkonen got pole. ruclips.net/video/0lcOF0w-sKw/видео.html I can't find the 2004 footage in hungarian, but I can vividly recall him being disappointed with similar levels of enthusiasm - even if you don't understand the language, you understand the passion. Too bad I missed out on F1 then. Watching old races back, knowing the end results from the beginning, and it is still insanely exciting.
Oh man, you can really see who Flavio really wanted in P1. Would have been interesting to imagine what could have been of Alonso if Jarno stayed one more year.
@@windfall7154 He couldn't adapt to the soft Michelins according to Alan Permane. Quit dreaming. If he couldn't handle Trulli that year, he can count his lucky stars he wasn't in the same team as a prime Kimi.
@@ciaronsmith4995 Then please explain why and how Trulli tanked in the second half of 2004 and wasn't even remotely a factor. I've seen him be quick and he can qualify brilliantly but I've never seen him plugged in for a full season.
@@alexpeak16 He still beat Alonso. And Jarno was very unlucky inthe second half (being taken out by Montoya at Spa etc), while also reporting a total handling imbalance. No doubt Briatore up to his old tricks.
@@ciaronsmith4995 So you think he was 'unlucky' that he threw away an easy podium in France and let Barrichello through? Was he 'unlucky' he failed to score in Germany and Monza? Spa is an interesting one; he got pole, then fell backwards during the race even before Montoya spun him. Alonso had engine oil leaking on his rear tyres when he spun at the same race. I suppose being told he'd be ditched for Fisichella mid-season couldn't have helped motivation but he should have made more effort to end his tenure with Renault on a high.
3:54 - sums it up!
What a lap by Raikkonen. Vintage McLaren Kimi in a "dog" of a McLaren (in Jenson Button's words when describing the 2004 McLaren).
The only legends all era the iceman
Yeah initial MP4-19 was terrible. Painful evolution towards masterpiece MP4-20
The exit of that last corner, quintessential Kimi technique
Absolutely floored the throttle didn't he!

I Love the footage from Speed TV!

That Mclaren looks a bit better in turning than the Renault..also the 3rd sector was just fantastic by Kimi...
Nothing about that McLaren (pre mid season change) was good, frankly.
@@ciaronsmith4995Might be the difference made by the driver but atleast from 1st sector onboards the car looks more responsive than the Renault..
And the engine blew up in the race
Where can i find full f1 quali sessions?

Did you notice the young Rosberg in a Finnish cap cheering Kimi's pole..!
