How come you didnt include any edward g robinson gangster movies. He was the first gangster actor that came out before james cagney with little cesar and a few others which were in silent or broadway and mostly lost. James cagney had a supportiong role with eddie in a movie they did together once before cagney got famous with the public enemy. Bogart is another gangerster that started off small time in eddie and cagney films before becoming famous from casablanca switching to more good guy roles. Im just surprised you include the waterfront. The public enemy white heat but nothing with eddie, bogart, or george raft paul muni from original scarface. I really feel eddie should have made the list with at least 1 or more clips from any of his gangster films since he started the whole gangster genre of movies from the sound era. And is considered the first tough guy gangster actor. The way he talked back in the 30s to the 40s was impersonated so much over the years. He also inspire some cartoon charaters voices and inspire most of the way gangster actors talk in movies.
Can't say I disagree with your arguments, I wanted to include some Paul Muni but couldn't find any decent clips from Scarface. I've seen a couple movies with Edward G Robinson and yes he is great :) As for On The Waterfront, I probably included it because it's one of my favorite films and I'm a big Brando fan.

Joe Pesci, one of the greatest ad libers of all time.
Personally I think Robert DeNiro is an overrated actor. Sure he sells the pissed of mobster but all his characters are basically the same. Joe Pesci out performs DeNiro every time.
Al Pacino is just great to watch. Where Pesci brings realism and a great performance in delivering what you would expect from a gangster, Al Pacino really turns it into a work of art. I love watching both those actors onscreen. I dont think DeNiro is even in the same league. He has some good characters he has played and landed some Iconic roles but his performance in my opinion is mediocre at best and when he strays from the formula he sucks. Cant do humor to save his life. Overrated by far.
