This is one of many reasons B99 is so good. Nearly every character is layered. Amy at first glance is a bit of a teachers pet. She definitely is this, but she also smokes, is known to get drunk now and then, and occasionally throws out innuendos. Many of the characters in the show have varying characteristics that makes them more interesting. Some of their secondary traits, you wouldn't think would work for their character, but they do.
One of my favorite twists of characters (one i shouldve saw coming) was the scully and hitchcock flashback where they were the b99 precinct studs. Absolute gold
Layered characters are very interesting to watch. It makes it relatable since an individual doesn't have only one or two traits. But the good thing about B99 characters is that they're layered with just the right amount. Not much, not less. Just the right spot.
