Never new I’d like history class this much. Thank you for putting in so much work into this series! ☺️
“there is a lot more to come” PLEASE ! I am tuned IN 😂
I'm starting draft 1 of part 2 now
Yes! You need to pitch yourself to Vice or something. People need to know this information. Thank you for taking the time to create all of your videos.
Detroit Skater since 1971. I noticed the two guys in black at the beginning did a couple of classic Detroit style moves from the early to mid 70s. I remember taking those moves to the rink called Skatetown USA in Hollywood in 1981 while on winter break (Grambling). Some of the cast from the movie took good notes, because when I came back they were on it.
Thanks for checking in
I'm from NYC, skated w/Bill .... you have done a marvelous job .... an Extraordinary job of presenting the history ... I was there then...and still skating at 66 ... you got this right
Any city I go to they automatically know I’m from Detroit....I get down every time and feel all eyes on me 😁
Love the historical breakdown! Salute! 💯
I must say since I found your channel I feel like I am in skating college! This is so informative. I really am enjoying your videos.
I am from Detroit but I have recently discovered I really like the St. Louis style of ballroom skating and the g-slide! So please do St. Louis style next. Oh and Chicago style too!
Do you know any St. Louis skate masters? I'm reaching out to people about all of those now.
@@Dunbeezytv Hey Bro. I never actually been to St. Louis lol, But I learned the g slide from “juice choreography” he got a RUclips and Facebook, also for ballroom I follow “Antonio Henderson”, and “Leo Quad1 Evolution” is next level the dude can skate with one wheel! I don’t know if that’s a St. Louis thing or not. Don’t know if that helps. Keep up the awesome skate videos 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
@@spiritualcosmeticss I'll jump on their lines. Thanks for the tip. I'm speaking to a man now who's giving me some links too. A lot came out of St. Louis.I might give them their own episode.
@@spiritualcosmeticss I'm checking out Juice now. Looks like a super strong community. Thanks for the tip. I reached out to him. He seems like the type to respond and jive lol
@@Dunbeezytv You should holler at Chad of Skatelyfe. He has a youtube channel and is from St. Louis. Knows a lot of vets in the culture.

This is soooooo important, roller skating brings a feeling of nostalgia to everyone, whether it’s a memory of childhood or the “roller disco” ...but we rarely hear the history?!? We enjoy the moves and styles and this brings a different level of understanding. I really enjoyed this, thank you
Very scholarly and enjoyable presentation. Thank you for this!
Someone linked this on the roller skating reddit today and I'm so glad they did. This is a fantastic video. I'm seriously about to binge all your videos now. I hope you have one on New York or MA!

I used to go to the Glide every Friday night growing up and I learned a lot from Levi. It's amazing to know how many other people recognize and learned from him as well.
How old was his son when you were skating with him? I remember when he was a straight young boy. I swear he was in like the 6th grade. When I came back a couple years later he had shot up.
@@Dunbeezytv He and I are actually around the same age. He is maybe 2 years or so older than myself but we were both in elementary at the time.
That was rad! Thank you ! 💮🤙🏽🌈
I'm glad you enjoyed the video
Detroit and all the colder climate styles are link to artistic because a lot of those folks I’ve skate and you jump when you ice skate… the same way!!!
Hey, a couple of things, as far as the Cleveland Shuffle, it was out way before the 90"s and we have a few more moves that's our unique style. Thanks for featuring some info about our style and skaters
YEEK!
NICE.. Ill say you doing a great job.. I get the --> "i only debate with my equals. All others, I teach.” John H Clarke. Thanks for the NYC History lessons.. Appreciate you 👍😉😉
I enjoyed this very much
I'm glad you enjoyed the video
@@Dunbeezytvyou’re so welcome and thank you also for sharing
New Subscriber here💐 Thank you for doing research for the culture and making these videos. I love how smooth we are on roller skates😍 and I picked up roller skating this year for that reason. It’s nice to be knowledgeable of our culture as well🖤
Thanks for subscribing. How has your journey been going?
Thank you so much for the history lesson on these regions. Currently working on perfecting my Detroit style ( Toledo Ohio native).
Yup Toledo Native as well...Alexis rd was my spot
Toledo style not that much different
I wish he would play small clips of these styles because we aren't from these areas. He showed some moves but not all of the moves mentioned
Levi!!!! I remember him from the original Golden Glide
You did great no worries!
ATL Rydin hit different!🔥🔥🔥
Thank you for capturing our history. I have always loved skating, but never made the time for it. I'm dusting off my wheels. Can you speak while showing the styles to get a better idea of the style? You should do a documentary of all of the living legends together. I love our people also shuffling in Cleveland was being done when I was little so at least the 1980's maybe further back
I know that guy at 18:04 lol... that's one of the rinks I frequent lol
I recognized those Detroit skaters ✌🏾✊🏾💗💗
Hey Dunbar
Real Talk
You overlooked a lot of The Atlanta's Skating History in this segment.
The Street Performer "ATL" Skateman
Thank you for sharing!
Could you tal about the music of each region, please? :D That would be awesome.
I'll make sure to add that into the next video as well as into my blogs. Have you seen my website?
@@Dunbeezytv Awesome! You're so sweet. Yes, I join to find the Guide. BTW, you should come to México. Some people is giving Workshops to mexican roller community, like Morgan Wesk, Dee and Kels. It would be amazing to have you. :D
Can you do a vid on how to do atl moves! Thx
I can't. I can speak to some people in the space and encourage them but I don't skate the style heavily.
We gonna both get clowned off that beginner for beginner ATL tutorial. All the big homies gonna press my line directly
Talk to Rockin Rich Houston. Look him up on Facebook. He is one of the people that invited Detroit style skate. He also has a book called "The Motown Sound On Wheels" that explains Detroit style skate in detail. You can't speak to someone with a better perspective and understanding on Detroit style than Rockin Richard Houston. Nice video also.
Will do
Notes taken.
Thanks for the support
You should research and do a video on St. Louis & East St. Louis' skate styles.
I already started the research. Crazy part for me is when styles have roots in two different parts of town like East and West Baltimore
@@Dunbeezytv I wouldn't say the 2 cities have different styles. Both cities are just usually acknowledged separately. We just like that. Lol.
Lol yes Ohio jumps is crazy I’m from Ohio and love doing em !
Dope video
Question: Are jumps exclusive to Cleveland style? Can someone just teach jumps to others? I know that jumping is including in freestyle skating..
Yes, we jump a lot & there are other styles that can be difficult or simple/smooth, but they’re cool 😎 it all depends on what style you want to learn
My apologies for the late response, jumps are not EXCLUSIVE to the Cleveland style. They are PROMINENT in the Cleveland style. Somes styles are influenced by artistic skating and other roller-skating styles incorporate jumps in less technical ways.
noice!
Thanks for all the support.
Could you tell me what’s the difference between Roller dance and skate dance?
🙈
Nothing
Hey,
I've been away for a while and I wanted to chime in.
Rollerdance is a program and term created by Richard Humphrey. It is where routines like the "Downtown" come from. If you type in rollerdance.com you will see Richard's website and the work he's done.
Skate dance is what people call dancing on skates sometimes. It's not a trademark and doesn't refer to something specific. If you google skate dance, some modern skate influencers pop up.
If you want to hear more about the story, I speak about Richard Humphrey on my roller skating history RUclips "Rhythm Skating".
You can check it out and hear the history of roller dance.
@@Dunbeezytv Wow! That's very clarifier. Thanks a lot.
And I'm on my way to find that video.
What rhythm skates would u recommend around 200$
Riedell Boost package. $135 with room to get some bungee cord, shipping and handling, and some new wheels if you want them.
Can someone help I thought it was in this video but it’s a clip of a dude doing a crazy double if anyone knows what im talking about
It might have been a different video when he was talking about new skate styles it’s not the double in the Cleveland section of this video. It’s a different one short clip of a bro going fast af then does a double
If you can drop the second you're talking about I'll take a look at it.
I think it might have been a different video where you were showing clips of young skaters creating new styles...? Not sure it was such a long time ago I just remember it was this skater that did a double and I've never seen that before or again. not sure if that rings a bell for you or not
@@Dunbeezytv
What's the difference between SkateDance vs Rhythm Skate?
My apologies for the late response. I usually point people to this video when they ask about that.
ruclips.net/video/yeW8RM3Tark/видео.html
@@Dunbeezytv You're so nice! Thank you for what you're doing. Greetings from México.
You haven't talked about Massachusetts mmmmmm
Not yet mmmmmmmmm
Damn Florida don’t have a style?
Florida does not have a nationally recognized and practiced set of roller skating techniques, but it does have it's own regional cultural.
"Skating to organ music is skating to organ music."
Bro. Former artistic skater here. I did Elementary and Freshman girls dance... 3+ hours of that shit in a row. Hashtag triggered by organ music 🤣
Triggered by organ music LMAO!!!
I learned enough to know that I am going stick with what what know (which isn't much lol). But do want to know one move. And still trying to find name to look it up. Either it's Cleveland shuffle, Bucket or Monkey .. similar, or is, like trays and trios move. I can some what do it, but just by watching others. But need actual moves, to learn it properly.
