How to select a search extent in USGS Earth Explorer

  • This video demonstrates how to define a search extent in USGS Earth Explorer. Method 1 uses the map extent in the browser. Method 2 uses a digitized and zipped shapefile. It is explained how to digitize a bounding box polygon shapefile in QGIS.

    I've just learned that you can create easily a polygon from the extent of your map canvas. So zoom in to your area of interest and go to the Processing Toolbox. Search for "Create layer from extent". Thanks @SatelliteSci on twitter for the tip!

    I followed all your steps, but still after it allowed me to import the shapefile and downloaded the files, it doesn't show me the shapefile on the Earth explorer...?

      Check if you zipped all files of the shapefile. And check if the projection is correct. You can also choose the extent in Earth Explorer my zooming in on the map and indicating to use the map.
