    Holy crap, if ZOS actually did this and implemented a global 3PC set shift and rebalance it would be an instant and massive injection of new life and player interest into ESO.

    I have never made a single youtube comment, ever, but I kinda feel compelled to do so here. If this was ZOS, rejecting you was a political move from somebody who has an agenda of their own. You are so incredibly competent in your understanding of gameplay and excel at communicating that information to others. Hiring politics can be... interesting..., and I really wonder what was going on behind the scenes. There is a fly on the wall somewhere with a lot to tell, that's for sure. I would not be surprised if we hear about some seemingly unrelated internal drama or other such brouhaha later on.
    Anyway, I'm really sorry to hear this, job rejections are a particular kind of develish pain.
    You've made a huge difference in my exo experience, and I know without a doubt that that is true for many, many people. You are incredibly reliable and insightful.
    You are a HUGE asset to this community, and I'm truly sorry this happened :(

    I've been there, been rejected for dozens of jobs over the years, sometimes for stupid reasons. I'm actually glad I was rejected from those positions, as it wouldn't have allowed me to have my current position, which I really enjoy. Thanks for the update, and good luck with your projects.

    Do not stop what you are doing, Skinny! This would really help ESO really embody the slogan, "Play how you want." I'm sure me and a lot of folks wanted other Sets to be much better and catch up with the other BiS Sets, and what you are doing I pray will get the recognition it deserves. It would definitely drive me, as an ESO player who is taking a break from the game, to come back and check all of this out.

    So reading between the lines, Skinny Cheeks applied for Zos' development team, actually got a ton of interviews, and was snubbed, and is now feeling a bit dejected from playing ESO, took a break from the game because of it, and wants to branch out into other content/games because he feels a bit jaded to the game due to this experience.
    I could be wrong, though, just a guess.
    I've been in similar situations in the entertainment industry. It sucks, happens a lot especially right now. The entertainment industry is hell right now for someone looking for work, I just ended up finding another industry because of it. I didn't WANT to find another industry, I love doing what I did, but there are no jobs for most people. I had four interviews with a place to do forensics animation, they said they will hire me and they just needed to confirm something and that they'd call me back in a week, and they ghosted me (never heard from them again). Games and animation, just not fun industries to be finding work in right now.

      And to respond to the change ideas:
      1. making it called "damage," and moving away from flat numbers to % values would make more sense to people in general. Like your crit chance change: just standardize it into %s. HP MP and STAM, yeah not %s. Since that it represented by a variable number, totally makes sense to keep it numbers.
      2. Reorganizing sets to be more useful in general, more rewarding, and more collectable is a great idea. I'd suggest standardizing their power; all sets should be about as good as the best non-trial sets, e.g. Pillars for damage, and all trial sets should be 5-10% better than that, if only due to having a unique 5% monster damage buff. If that, and a revamp to 3 piece sets, happened, then it would allow for a lot more diversity in itemization, so long as sets kept appropriate power (for example, Deadly is a strong set for some builds, and if it got nerfed due to the change, it kills a niche build, which shouldn't happen imo).
      3. Yeah, absolutely. Itemization is my main reason for dropping this game. I've made the builds I like, played the content, and have nothing left to do short of housing. I'd love to see an overhaul that doesn't nerf every set in the game to get there. Getting rid of a single piece bonus isn't bad when you can replace it, so long as the set bonus remains strong and unique for each set.
      This is exactly what I've been saying in the eso forums for years (I got banned from the forums a year or so ago for bait, I did not bait lol, fought and lost). I'd still be vocal in the community if it wasn't for my ban, but this is exactly the kind of thing I've been shouting at the rooftops for a long, long time. As I stated earlier, the best non trial sets should be about the same power level.

    Some really good ideas. I especially like the class passives idea, which would be something easy to implement. All the gear changes would also be great, and infuse some new life into the game. But I suspect, if this was pitched to zos, it would look a little too much like work.

    Loved your proposals, as a casual player it is often confusing how everything affects the stats and often you need to use a calculator just to understand how they work, soecially on the case of crit chance stats, and your way of tackling this on your proposals was just right, I like the fact that itwould give more flexibility on the builds. Also loved the idea on support for themed builds, which I find often lacking for needing sets that are out of the meta, and the re balance would let these to be viable options
    Really hoping this video gets a lot of notoriety so ZoS notices what they're missing out and hopefully do something about it

    I've had this exact same idea for a while now but it always felt like it'd take a massive amount of effort to balance every set in the game so we don't end up with more power creep but now you've gone and done all the work for them they have no excuse anymore

    Hey man, if this video shows anything its that you have way more knowledge on this game than any other player or developer. The fact that this has essentially been a hundreds of hour of love project for this game is a testament to that.
    I really resonated with the first opening around people not being able to fully percieve your effort in life and your last around balancing the game around fun!

    This rebalance is very well done and I love seeing game community members putting this kind of time and effort into a game they love. I wish game devs would listen more to their community, especially people like you who put in this effort. Well done, I would definitely get back into ESO if they applied these changes.

    I remember when Mythics were supposed to give a boost to something while also adding penalties, nowdays we have Mythics that are straight up bonuses. Look at Saint and Seducer, it's almost like 2x 5x piece sets fused together. The powercreep direction is going off the rails

    Congratulations on the ideas and work done so far! I think almost everything you've shown should be implemented.
    The cleaned-up presentation I think would be great: Clearer tool tips and with "round" numbers or percentages.
    The 1-piece set bonus is really interesting! I don't know about every set, but most of them would benefit for sure! At least more craftable options from 1 to 12 piece bonuses.
    Ability altering weapons and class sets with specific effect depending on the gear piece would bring so much fun for the theory crafting community and open up more possibilities of abilites and gear usage...
    About fun sets.. please!! For instance, I really love themed sets: fire, lightning, necro type, pet focused etc, and I'd play more with them if they were a bit competitive, like Elf Bane together with a fire build, e.g.

    I don't really have an issue with item stats, however I do have an issue with how many near-identical sets there are, and subsequently a storage issue. I've played this game enough to have 15 gilded out sets on my main alone, just because of how many situational benefits you can have from them. That only put me in a position, where i can't actually put anything else useful in my inventory/bank. I wish they let us have something like the legendary armory in guildwars, where you put a ton of effort into building these items, but then have an option to get any stat you want on that piece

    If you want to come slum it with the console folks, New World’s release for consoles could breathe much needed life into that game. During the open beta there were a lot of ESO console players active in the chat.
    We met briefly in Vegas at the Necrom event and just wanted to say thank you again for all the work that you’ve done for the ESO community. You’ve been a true pillar of the ESO community. Whatever you do next I’ll watch, heck you could review paper towels and I’d watch 😂

    ESO needs a new dev team asap… or at least a new team in the combat system and graphics department. They need to give the zone DLCs a break. And take away the one Tamriel zone level scaling.

    pillars of the community like yourself are always appreciated. i love brainstorming and trying to find solutions. to add my input to your proposal, i'd say completely reworking sets seems like too much? what if wearing one set item piece allows for a set bonus, at a reduced value, like half? for example: 1 item- adds 548 max magicka, 2 items- adds 328 crit chance (& turns the 1st line bonus into 1096 max magicka), 3 items- adds 328 crit chance (& turns the 2nd line into 657 crit chance) , etc. now the 5th item bonus functions as a 4th item bonus, since you could wear 1 piece for a 1 item bonus. this opens up the possibility to wear a mythic, 2 piece monster set, two 4 piece armor sets, and leaving a flex slot available. 1 set piece could be worn in the flex, or with your idea of base game mythics, new "purple" mythics, with a less strong bonus, and wearable in combination with a gold mythic. these could drop like leads do, but without scribing. just combine the different fragments. also, i really like your idea of different effects if worn in a different armor slot.

    Those first seconds made me so hyped thinking you'd finally be part of the team, and now I just feel sad that they rejected you, I'm just guessing, but I think it's safe to assume what happened, you'd make a great addition to the ESO team.
    Those rebalance ideas sound exactly like what this game needs, I really really hope they get out of paper someday, nothing would make me more happy than seeing those kinds of changes in the game.
    I don't know if you're aware of this, but you're really important for this community, I always recommend your website and videos to any player with questions I see, because I know they'll help them just like they helped me, it would be a huge loss for this game if we actually lose you.

    Among all the mind-boggling decisions ZOS has made over the years, this may rank as one of their most puzzling. I can’t imagine why they decided to go a different direction, but I know for certain there will be better opportunities for you, and their loss will be someone’s else gain. For me personally, you’ve made this game more enjoyable than it would have ever been otherwise, and you have my heartfelt thanks for that.

    Thanks for sharing! If anyone recalls in the early years of the game some sets like Healing Mage dropped as jewelry and restoration staff and only had a 2 and 3 pc bonus. It was really awesome times. I really like the idea of 1 pc bonuses. It makes so much sense.
    Would those Class Passives replace the current passives that the four original classes have? DK = minor weapon damage, NB = minor weapon crit, TR = minor spell damage, SO = minor spell crit?

      Yeah, the update dread is what eventually drove me away from the game. I mostly watch ESO content for schadenfreude reasons: watching ZOS slowly make the game increasingly dreadful to play while claiming they're making it better.

    Regarding the racial passives, I’d love to see more thematic passives for example the argonian swimming speed, nord frost resistance! It makes them feel more unique! As for the actual stats passives gives, I like that all races don’t have the same but wouldn’t mind more passives to make it easier to buildcraft💪🏼

    I really like the idea! the one thing to be careful of is stacking proc sets to create ridiculous amounts of auto-damage. as far as racial passives go it would be nice if there wasn't only 1 best tank race, it should be more like healing or dps where different options bring different results.

    I'm more and more losing interest in playing this game to the point that I think (I'm probably not the only one) there needs to be a massive overhaul to the combat system, especially item sets, but also classes, weapons and skills, to become interesting to me again. I like it when they add new things like the Arcanist or Scribing but they don't solve the problem and don't automatically make builds fun again. The changes that you talked about in your video would go a long way to solve a lot of these problems and I'm sure that you know a lot about how to improve this game for everyone (those class passives need to be disabled in PVP though lol). But from what I could understand, these changes might not actually come to the game and are just theory, at least for now. If that's the case I can understand that you want to spend less time with this game, as I will do too if I can't be interested in it anymore.

    I've had similar thoughts on the set piece system. The standard 5pc paradigm is so limiting to buildcrafting. Players only ever have enough room for two 5pc sets and one of those is usually a minor slayer set, limiting options even further. There are so many cool set effects that are too weak, too niche, or have bad stat lines alongside them that doom them to obscurity.
    The rework you suggested would breathe so much life into buildcrafting for all players. Endgame players would have more options for team compositions. Moderate players would have a bit more flexibility to fit in selfish sets while they learn content. And new players would actually get use out of the sets they collect when it only takes 3 pieces to have a full set effect and just having a single piece would provide a bonus on its own. And casuals can just stack up even more proc sets together for goofy thematic results.

      i think 3-pc sets will be too OP especially for 12-man trial runs. imagine 2 healers and two tanks would provide up to 12 buff sets (plus the monster gear). talk about power creep!

    I was a log-leaderboard dps a couple years back. I was progging multiple trifectas on dps and healer with multiple teams of amazing players.
    Recently I've been trying to get back into ESO but the grind to unlock what I wanted to try, specifically scribing but also new trial sets that were needed for up to date compositions, was just way too much and I basically gave up...
    I'll still always watch your videos though! If zos removed some of the grind factor, it might actually be able to draw in and get crown store purchases out of players who have busy jobs (or just play other games too) and don't have 30h a week to grind in order to simply have access to a build let alone master it.

    As someone trying to get into the career they want to get into and failing constantly despite all the effort I put in to have the credentials for the position I definitely feel for you. You got this because if I'm not giving up im pretty sure you won't give up either. Love your ideas for eso I really do wish ZOS would take some of those ideas to hesrt because lots of people really like them.

    This all honestly really cool, i like this a lot one thing i think might need to be looked at is the grind going from lvl 1-50 along with getting your mount level up. for someone just starting out i think its fine. your on your first or second character i don't think its to bad as it helps you get to grips with how the game functions. Now do this 4 5 6 more times and you just end up in the desert running between dolmens, youve done all the main questlines 3-5 time and it just becomes a chore more then anything.
    There just needs to be something to streamline this process a little bit. even if its just a quicker way to move around the map. shrines linked between characters, mounts liked between characters, just something.
    I wish i could go back to when i was playing eso again for the first time. where everywhere felt brand new and i was enjoying playing through the different main quests wondering what is going to happen next. but when you know whats going on and whats happening next you just kinda switch off and press buttons. question is do i switch off and press buttons and level up slowly doing quests or switch off and press buttons and level up fast with like 20+ people in a sand pit. Quest rewards are pretty sub par and the gear just ends up getting thrown away anyway because you got given a level 12 chest piece that will become useless in about 5 levels especially because the bonuses get weaker as you level up. you know what i mean your level 10 get a level 10 set of cloves what give say 1000 health but when you get to lvl 11 suddenly that health bonus goes down to 900. i wish when we create a new character we start at CP level so that way we can either prepare gear for that character on start or pick up stuff that we can keep for that character whilst say levelling up the characters skills.
    You will still have that feeling of your character getting more powerful as you level up each class / weapon skill line without the need to go through the grind of just getting to the point where gear isnt getting discarded.

    Changing gear stats to have 1 piece bonuses will clash too much with pvp. Trainee is a great example as it became a standard slot for the health bonus since weapons changed to 2 piece stats. Changes made to pve tend to become major rework and nerf issues for pvp as the meta becomes increasingly unbalanced as more changes are made to appease the pve environment.

    As with anything ZOS related (Yes, ZOS. Look we all can read between the lines here.) it's pride. It's 100% pride.
    Their loss, man. Most of these ideas look REALLY good, but they wouldn't be able to do them in a single update so I think that freaked them out.

    How about setting the main quests/zone quests(every 2) are guaranteed skill points for a max number of quests.
    All way-shrines are shared account
    Zone gear should have a (under 50) 1 piece bonus

    I love all these ideas. I especially love the idea of reworking racial passives. Frankly, as things are now, there are races that are not worth running.

    #1 change GO back to 1 second ticks, once this 2 second (count it, its more like 2.6ish 2.8ish) ESO has not been fun
    Sure its fine for groups and high level players babysitting their skills, only staring at the skill bar
    but I can't with ESO, ZOS wants it dead so they can move on

    Light and Heavy attack sets should work on players also. A lot of people spent hours farming and Golding those sets to make niche builds in PVP. ZOS took that away from us unfairly. If damage potential is the worry, just adjust the damage with battle spirit, but make the damage worth the cons.
    It’s not as OP as people think. There are also major drawbacks to the play style which no one talks about. It’s slow, Single target mostly, and offer little to no defensive potential. Often your defense is as poor as your offense is rich. Bring Storm master Back to pvp please 🙏🏾

    i have, for years, been posting to anyone who will listen that racial passives need to be moved to something else you can choose at creation/race change that isn't cosmetic. backgrounds or something; i firmly believe that a cosmetic choice should not affect combat in any way

      This is just more hybridization leading to killing the game even more. Races have always carried certain benefits. They aren't meant to be cosmetic choices. High elves are natural born wizards - they shouldnt be able to be just as good of warriors as orcs or redguards. Just like the hybridization of spell and weapon damage and basically just having a damage stat. The game doesn't need to be dumbed down so that everybody can play it and it can be easy and convenient - that's what the execs at the company should want - not the players. As a player, you want your choices to matter and be forced to pick between races and sets and weapons and have customization within your playstyle - but not full customization and freedom - that's not good and creates a world full of robots - which is what we have now, everybody wearing the same sets and weapons. The idea of hybridization is good in theory but not in practice.
