Yeah, this feels like a way to hush people who ask for aoe taunting skills. It's a really fun set for people who are looking at getting into tanking, or enjoy doing dungeons. It's not overpowered by any means. I'd never wear it, as I like to provide my group with dmg buffs. Tbh, they should just make a mythic that allows for a method of aoe taunting. But that would also mean something fun, and apperently, that's just not something they're aiming for.

Did you not read the developer comment at 2:10? They removed the aoe taunt because it goes against their philosophy for taunting, it doesn't make sense that they would change that for scribing.
What dungeons require the tank to taunt all 12 adds? And what dungeon does 8/12 of those adds not die before the tank taunts 3-4 of them? Really your supposed to taunt only priority adds. The rest die if the group is doing what its supposed to be doing.
@@eustacemcgoodboy9702 He's argument is as a tank you don't need to taunt all adds. You just need to taunt definite ones in definite packs. Usually this is elite adds. Other adds will die from random grounds in 0.01 second, and range adds will be pulled and taunted anyway. You have literally zero dungeon encounetrs where you need mass taunt.
As a PvP main, the nerf to the Arena dual wield was long overdue. Players built exclusively into tank/heals and relied solely on twin slashes and vateshran backbar.
I don't play this game any more but I like to hear about whats happening in the game on this channel. One thing I will say is wow they certainly haven't stopped making sweeping changes every single balance patch. It seems quite exhausting to me I would be gutted if they went along and ruined a set I farmed like e.g tormenter or something. Like they can just completely rework sets at any point whenever they like.
@@xboxgamerz22 SkinnyCheeks does use a necromancer parse in an example. While I'd say any class could use them the main thing to consider is how many DoTs you use and if they are AoEs. DKs being a DoT central class makes them a fantastic natural fit that's easy to work with. As for other classes I haven't really given it much thought, Wardens and Templars have a couple of good Aoe and/or DoT class skills with winter's revenge, fetchers, Arctic Blast, Northern Storm, Sun Fire, Blazing Spear and ritual of Retribution (maybe Solar Barrage works if it counts user-centered DoTs) but at some point you'd have to check outside of your class kit.
God Stinging Slashes was so oppressive for so long in pvp. It's hard to even tell which class is even using it cuz you just see it fill all the death recap slots
@MHoop137 well yeah the damage is still doable you just aren't going to be able to pull it off on a 40k health build, which weakens the setup overall cuz it's the pressure over longer fights that really is the problem
It's not so oppressive by itself, but adding other flat tick increases (Draugrkin, Dragon appetite) and it often procced Hemo instantly decreasing health by 10% it was very strong. But really what changed that you can't have it at full force with tanky setups, it's still gonna be there.
Change for Tormentor is idiotic. It was a set for AoE taunt that was convenient for trash packs. With this change it will be a complete garbage with ZERO incentive to ever wear it. I used it together with dark conversion to make trash melting faster (any AoE pull will work). Not the first set to be killed. People who are doing changes to the set have no idea what they are doing and are actively making game worse by removing any variability in gameplay.
Yup, just proves how out of touch ZOS is. They don’t understand why it was actually used. One of their core philosophies it to remove all fun play styles from the game and make everyone play how they want us to play.
Why are trash packs so huge? What's even the point of a tank in a dungeon if there's no AOE taunts and every trash pull is 10 enemies? To spam your taunt skill over and over and over all dungeon long? Disgusting. And we wonder why nobody likes tanking dungeons...
I remember when Unleashed was first released.. I paired it with Deadly Strike on my Stamden and used it exclusively for PvP. I was doing between 1.5-2 million damage in an average BG match. It was a great set until it was nerfed. It will be interesting to see if it's able to return to its former glory.
One note. Pillar of Nirn procs with AOE damage, like eg Solar Barrage, Caltrops, Ritual, picks any target to proc not your main target. It has the nasty side effect of hitting the wrong target not the one you aim at. This issue is not shown on dummy tests because there is just 1 enemy. Unleashed will hit the target you aim at guaranteed. The question is, Stampede is AOE, would Unleashed apply the Bleed on all the targets hit with the Stampede or not? If yes, we are talking about the strongest PVE set in game as it benefits from Deadly Strike set.
At first, I was playing with Tormentor and PlagueBreak sets in my favorite tankplar. First they killed plaguebreak for PvE. Now Tormentor is dead. I think Zos doesn't like me and the way I enjoy the game.
Twin slashes weaves like a dream too. I so wish it was better as a spammable weapon set, especially because the rapid strikes set from maelstrom sucks so bad.
Tormentor has now lost its unique effect making it the same as other similar one target taunt sets and other sets in this area are just better so I have deconned all my gear now. Its interesting ZOS said AOE taunts goes against their core philosophies because we saw for the upcoming chapter they are thinking about AOE taunts for the new scribing system, it was literally on the screen they showed. Sure Scribing could still change but they included it for testing which says to me this isnt about core philosophies and more about increasing the attractiveness of Scribing... just be honest we are not idiots.
ZOS's philosophy on tanking absolutely sucks and it's why it has less tank players in the game than any other mmo I ever seen. Maybe they should change their philosophy instead of nerfing something out of a misguided vision no one ever once asked for from these people.
I used Tormentor for WW tanking and lazy PUG groups where dps often pull "for" you. But TBH I stopped doing normals and tanking anyway, queue times for vet dps is not too bad.
I've wanted to run unleashed terror on my werewolf but the double Pounce minigame on it just does not synergize with the 10 second unleashed cooldown at all. Still a really cool set. :(
at this point, these posts sound like copium fake hype, considering how hyped and good the feedback to archive was and then it basically 1-2 builds at most or you need co-op or be trash solo. Nice they ruined tormentor set also. Perfected bonus should be 3 times higher than it is, otherwise normal trial gear is 1-3% weaker than perfected for the difficulty that is 3-5 times easier, depending on trial.
Hey Skinny! quick question. I don't fully understand why stinging slashes isn't used as PVE set. not as a spammable. unbuffed on my character it does an extra 1400 upfront damage and about an extra 800 dot (above the slashes skill) in exchange for a 2-pc set (which now scales higher with WD). compare that to the numbers on pillar unbuffed on my same character (2800 upfront and also 800 dot for 5-pc) if you partner that with Maarselok which can scale up to 10k dot over 4 sec in trials wouldn't that be an option. you also still have a 1 pc for a monster set.
@skinnycheeks at the end on this chart Coral base 7466 WD and Coral up 8821 WD. Why 1355 diff ? Coral alone will give 869 WD x 10% x 20% minor and major summary 1147. Then how you got 200 more ?
I use tormentor with unleashed and brp mace . Didn’t even know there was a way to get an AOE taunt. As for complaints about lazy tanks blocking all the time, I block hits to make it more visually realistic. The same reason I have all the numbers turned off. Easier to immerse myself in the game
you want it always active. definitely not a backbar option. can do front bar if you spend very little time on your backbar, but generally you want it as an always active set.
I still don’t get it, for the rune carver, does that flame damage apply to enemies once every 3rd ticks from each type of dots, or once every 3rd ticks no matter the number of dots?
Interesting how tormental change would affect hel ra har mod last fight with gargoyles. As for master dw - sad coz it was good way to have spamable with dot, now it's useless everywhere. Siroria - still stationary set mostly. Good change but... Eh? Runecarver - need to hear some dk/necro main opinion coz have suspicion, that dot classes might not be happy due to 0 scaling from dot star. As for set with bleed after pool/charge - just adjusted for pvp coz stam/hybrid sorcs will drain everything in one streak (imho)
We have a lot of trial and DG sets that could be reworked in the game, I hope zos makes more changes to the older sets instead of releasing a wave of bad sets with each dlc.
Maser DW was perfectly balanced. Meanwhile we still have to deal with players stacking healings over time and dumping ults on discord. There is absolutly no way to kill them, but ZOS thinks its what makes competitive PVP.
I can watch or not watch all you have to say, but, I am still salty over the demise of Necromancers and Stalking Blastbones, so you may as well be talking Peruvian or Icelandic to me.
I have never been so disappointed in a change, i loved aoe taunt with stampede such a disappointment but werewolf tanks i dont think will be changed much in fact i they were buffed slightly buffed
ZoS’ philosophy of no AoE taunts is about the stupidest thing ever. They’ve never even given a reason FOR this “philosophy”, only that they have it. Why would you purposely make things more difficult for your newer/inexperienced tanks? Not to mention newer tanks in pugs get shit on for not rounding up mobs quick enough, when they’re having to do it one at a fucking time. I don’t know if tormentor should be changed, but I DO know the game needs a damn aoe taunt.
Agree. This game has humongous trash packs and you don't do crowd control before or during pulls so in reality every tank in dungeons is just spamming taunt over and over and over and over. Disgusting.
@@eustacemcgoodboy9702 exactly. I have a buddy that tanks in wow. He Loves tanking. Tried to get him to come play eso, so eventually he concedes and makes a tank. In the first dungeon he’s like “where’s my aoe taunt”? And I’m like eso doesn’t use them. He immediately respecced to dps. This happens more often than not. Another reason zos’ tank playerbase is so small.
As I said in my comment it has nothing to do with philosophy because with the new scribing system coming this year, they literally showed a AOE taunt ability, so this is about selling Chapters not philosophy. That's why the Tormentor nerf ability is coming the patch before the scribing system.
While I agree with the Stinging Slash nerf I am sad for it being done like this. Right now, this is just another "not worth to use at all"-set and tossed in the bin. I would love if ZOS actually had some effect attached there. You made a good point with the more status effect likeliness etc.
It requires only 5k wpn and spl DMG to get 1k from the proc. This is very achievable and not even close to the ceiling. Stinging slashes is still gonna hit hard.
@@Ho0pxr Maelstrom Staff grants +1,5k DPS without any Weapon Dmg requirements and is AOE. So in PVE it already far excels the Master Dual Wield. The independance from Dmg was what made Master good and when its gone it will be gone from PVP without replacement.
@@DarkRuler2500 no one mentioned pve and it's not going anywhere in pvp. This is still going to hit hard for a lot of PVP builds and even some tankier ones. Arc and DK can pull off high health with it and reach 1500 on the proc. Stamsorc will probably too next patch. And that's not counting the regular 30k health builds who will easily still hit nearly the same proc. This nerf was mainly for super tank PVP builds who were able to chunk people with no investment.

The tormentor changes are dumb and I hate what they did to it I am not taunting one thing i'm taunting everything typically in group Content tormentor made it so much more enjoyable R.I.P templar tanks and warewolf tanks
Seems like I was wrong there, but why did they change encratis so that a flame glyph doesn't proc it when some procs are still allowed to proc things it's so inconsistent and stupid

I don’t use tank but my friend does and nerfing an aoe taunt on a set I just don’t like it. I honestly believe the game needs aoe taunts to begin with but that’s just my opinion
I better keep quiet about my one bar AOE frost tank warden because it sounds like if ZOS catches wind of what a Warden frost tank can do (aoe tank) they'll nerf it....

I like the tormentor change for multiple reasons, even tho I don't really care about the set, but I won't go into any details, cuz tbh imo here are too many biased ppl complaining about convenience that have been taken from them, that they never meant to have in the first place.
Master duel weild nerf was very needed for pvp. It’s on every build for every class. Eventually the game just needs to have separate items for pve and pvp
nice they nerfed 1 of the cheese weapon sets in pvp now they gotta nerf the vatheshran ice staff and lower ele sus to last 30 secs or less...1 min for a no cost skill is way too long
I wish all tanky damage sets a very DIE, thank god for the Stinging Slashes nerf, Tormentor makes no sense still sadly. Honestly wish all Stam/Magicka set parts meant for doing DPS were weapon and spell damage instead, i understand it on utility ones like Draugr Hulk but just give me damage for my sets meant for damage
I have over 5000 hours as a tank and I disagree. It was good set for running 4 keys. ZOS conception of tanking is so fucking boring that I had to go PVP to keep playing the game as it takes forever to queue as DD, because noone wants to tank.
the clowns are the people crying about a feature that did not alligne with the design phiosophy of the game, you all focused on an ANOMALY to make tanking more easy, now you cry that the anomaly is fixed... change game if you cannot slot a void or prioritize taunt ffs

yooo, Runecarver's Blaze being buffed (fixed) is fine by me! I been a fan of it on my magDK in add packs!
Does it work with other classes?
I think the best results are on a DK but any build built towards dots it's good

Tormentor was really good for dungeon randoms and Werewolves idk why they did that, it was a fresh sight that's side grade use for tanks.
I'm guessing it is like heavy attacks and to make the new system coming more valuable. Can't have base game competing with new DLC content.

it takes a very special person to enjoy tanking in ESO, and you aren't likely to encounter them in a queue since they only group with good players.
They could make Tormentor only do AOE Taunt with WW skills. Would make it unique and very niche.

once on every third tick of each dot you have going. so with a lot of dots it goes off a lot.

I have never been so disappointed in a change, i loved aoe taunt with stampede such a disappointment but werewolf tanks i dont think will be changed much in fact i they were buffed slightly buffed

ZoS’ philosophy of no AoE taunts is about the stupidest thing ever. They’ve never even given a reason FOR this “philosophy”, only that they have it. Why would you purposely make things more difficult for your newer/inexperienced tanks? Not to mention newer tanks in pugs get shit on for not rounding up mobs quick enough, when they’re having to do it one at a fucking time. I don’t know if tormentor should be changed, but I DO know the game needs a damn aoe taunt.
Agree. This game has humongous trash packs and you don't do crowd control before or during pulls so in reality every tank in dungeons is just spamming taunt over and over and over and over. Disgusting.
@@eustacemcgoodboy9702 exactly. I have a buddy that tanks in wow. He Loves tanking. Tried to get him to come play eso, so eventually he concedes and makes a tank. In the first dungeon he’s like “where’s my aoe taunt”? And I’m like eso doesn’t use them. He immediately respecced to dps.
This happens more often than not. Another reason zos’ tank playerbase is so small.
As I said in my comment it has nothing to do with philosophy because with the new scribing system coming this year, they literally showed a AOE taunt ability, so this is about selling Chapters not philosophy. That's why the Tormentor nerf ability is coming the patch before the scribing system.

While I agree with the Stinging Slash nerf I am sad for it being done like this. Right now, this is just another "not worth to use at all"-set and tossed in the bin. I would love if ZOS actually had some effect attached there. You made a good point with the more status effect likeliness etc.
It requires only 5k wpn and spl DMG to get 1k from the proc. This is very achievable and not even close to the ceiling. Stinging slashes is still gonna hit hard.
We do not need more status effect likelihood in PvP, so no thank you.
@@Ho0pxr Maelstrom Staff grants +1,5k DPS without any Weapon Dmg requirements and is AOE. So in PVE it already far excels the Master Dual Wield. The independance from Dmg was what made Master good and when its gone it will be gone from PVP without replacement.
@@DarkRuler2500 no one mentioned pve and it's not going anywhere in pvp. This is still going to hit hard for a lot of PVP builds and even some tankier ones. Arc and DK can pull off high health with it and reach 1500 on the proc. Stamsorc will probably too next patch. And that's not counting the regular 30k health builds who will easily still hit nearly the same proc. This nerf was mainly for super tank PVP builds who were able to chunk people with no investment.

The tormentor changes are dumb and I hate what they did to it I am not taunting one thing i'm taunting everything typically in group Content tormentor made it so much more enjoyable R.I.P templar tanks and warewolf tanks

Seems like I was wrong there, but why did they change encratis so that a flame glyph doesn't proc it when some procs are still allowed to proc things it's so inconsistent and stupid
As much as i love this game, since day 1, i have always think its absurd the way its the only MMO over there that overcomplicate every single stat hahahahaha it's like a game for actuaries :)

I don’t use tank but my friend does and nerfing an aoe taunt on a set I just don’t like it. I honestly believe the game needs aoe taunts to begin with but that’s just my opinion
I better keep quiet about my one bar AOE frost tank warden because it sounds like if ZOS catches wind of what a Warden frost tank can do (aoe tank) they'll nerf it....

Master duel weild nerf was very needed for pvp. It’s on every build for every class. Eventually the game just needs to have separate items for pve and pvp
nice they nerfed 1 of the cheese weapon sets in pvp now they gotta nerf the vatheshran ice staff and lower ele sus to last 30 secs or less...1 min for a no cost skill is way too long

I wish all tanky damage sets a very DIE, thank god for the Stinging Slashes nerf, Tormentor makes no sense still sadly. Honestly wish all Stam/Magicka set parts meant for doing DPS were weapon and spell damage instead, i understand it on utility ones like Draugr Hulk but just give me damage for my sets meant for damage

I have over 5000 hours as a tank and I disagree. It was good set for running 4 keys. ZOS conception of tanking is so fucking boring that I had to go PVP to keep playing the game as it takes forever to queue as DD, because noone wants to tank.
the clowns are the people crying about a feature that did not alligne with the design phiosophy of the game, you all focused on an ANOMALY to make tanking more easy, now you cry that the anomaly is fixed... change game if you cannot slot a void or prioritize taunt ffs
