FYI Junhwan's new coach is Chi Hyun-jung (the Korean woman that was in the kiss and cry with him and brian at Worlds). She is also the coach of Haein Lee (silver medal in the ladies category at Worlds) and Young You. Also former coach of Yuna Kim and Eunsoo Lim. TBH not surprised he left because apparently he wasn't spending much time in Toronto. Also keep in mind that a similar thing happened to TCC last year where everyone left at the beginning of the season and by Worlds TCC had a lot of people come back Right now the only major people that are there right now are Jason Brown (who is still competing) , Boyang Jin and Rika Kihira, so who knows who will join TCC this season? No one can simply replace Yuzu and Javi's era at TCC. Students grow up, change their mind, come and go. Yuna Kim taught that lesson to B.Orser - hardcore. IMO - Its not really a big deal at this point
Agreed! I hope he continues working with the same choreographers and that his packaging remains consistent, though. Jun is arguably the best packaged male skater throughout the last two seasons, except for Jason or maybe Shoma, Adam, or Dennis. If he continues to have among the best programs, I agree that he should maintain or grow his success. Young and Haein are lovely, but their packaging is solid but not the best in the women's field. The Cricket Club is still the best for packaging.

Jun has actually been working with Chi Hyun-jung since the pandemic began, and has spent very little time training in Canada since then. Brian has really just been with him in the K&C. It is near impossible for Korean athletes to train abroad due to the laws in South Korea, and he’s also in university with no distance learning option. Add that to the fact that Ghislain no longer works at TCC, and Jun really needs to be working on his technical content at this stage… and this is a very practical decision. We’ll have to see if he replaces Brian with another co-coach or just stays with Chi, but the split seems amicable and I don’t anticipate any crisis adjustment period, seeing as he was mostly training with Chi in Korea already.

What do you mean with Mai being unstable? This season she was literally the most consistent one. She was the only female who managed to win two Grand Prix titles as well as Grand Prix Final. Then at Worlds, she unfortunately had two mistakes in the free, but Kaori, Luna, Yelim, Haein etc. were way more inconsistent throughout the season. I actually kind of Trusova’s new song! Even though she’s not the writer of the song, her voice is really pretty. With the Russians banned from international competitions, it’s probably good that she’s focusing on a new thing. Especially with the Eteri expiration date, if she starts really taking off in Russia and Europe, it’d be good for her to have a back-up plan if she gets injured on retires from skating.

Sounds like parents are involved very much 😵💫 I have to say Sasha seems very child like still as much as she wants to break out of her childhood self (pole dancing etc) I feel like her parents are pretty abusive and controlling about how her life goes or even her looks. I know people from different countries look and talk differently but I’m Russian and her behavior and body language screams that to me. I think most parents of all the famous skaters in Russia are abusive but in her case it for some reason stands out to me more than anyone else
Andrew Torgashev is the US Bronze Medalist 2023 😅 He won the long program at Nationals, beating both Ilia and Jason Brown. He competed at Worlds as well.
TCC doesn’t have much left rn… They still do have some brilliant skaters there- Boyang and Rika but… I’m not sure Boyang is fully recovered and Rika re-injured herself and is also still tied to Mie Hamada to an extent. Being a Rika fan hurts. I guess Paola didn’t catch it but Rika posted her MRI and the fracture is still healing. I’m looking forward to Grand Prix France, I LOVE Yuma and Koshiro. Also what’s with the dig at Mai? She’s like Japanese Anna nowadays. Ohh but I’m excited about a certain new senior! Hana Yoshida’s jumps are *big* and while she’s working on consistency I’m excited to see her at grand prix events. Her hit 3As are massive. Last season she performed the highest scoring single jump all season- even higher scoring than Mao Shimada’s 3A. Performing well I think she could medal. She says she wants to see the breakout stars but like… I feel like you need to watch juniors closer to see the new rising faces. Xiangyi is also well loved. I’m surprised Paola knows neither. In coming years we’ll get Jia Shin and Mao Shimada. Mao Shimada’s worlds skate had a lot of views and she’s not going senior for years. She has a pretty consistent 3A and can almost rotate a quad + she has good edges on both her flip and lutz + her spins are super fast. And even speaking of Mao- Mao Asada says she’s working on her 3A again and her progress clips look great. She’s in her 30s! It’s almost like she doesn’t care to check on the condition of anyone who isn’t the light of her life.

People always really hype up the juniors who can jump Ultra-Cs but I’m just so excited about Mao because she has great edges, her spins are fast/flexible, she can do spirals etc. She’s under Mie Hamada though, and she’s an unfortunate age- just like Mao Asada she’s too young to compete for the next Olympics. I really do like Ami Nakai as well bc she’s a charming performer. She can also jump a 3A but a lot of her jumps including that one are a little bit scary. For good sources to follow tho- The ISU does stream events like junior worlds so it’s not too hard to follow. A lot has gone on- Yuzuru did a magazine shoot dressed in Gucci and Yuna Kim mentioned Mao Asada in an interview. I only really try to follow skaters on Twitter/IG, events… and take looks at the subreddit. I do admittedly like Japan best, but I follow the others! Sasha Cohen went on ice with her kid for the first time in years and still has great musicality. Shizuka Arakawa, in her 40s, can jump big 2As and Midori Ito (the legend) can still occasionally in her 50s. Nobunari Oda (mid 30s) recently started posting himself doing really well executed quad combos. I really l have a soft spot for Canada too. I wish that Patrick Chan and his gorgeous skating would come back. Also when she mentioned Canada not having a major/successful ladies skater a long time- I was like- A whole Kaetlyn Osmond exists. She competed around the same time as Evgenia and has a gold worlds medal.
I'm so excited for these grand prix assignments! I think (and hope) Mihara will be the most consistent in the entire circuit. Even on her inconsistent skates, she medaled in her last season's assignments and finals. Also, I'm glad to see Higuchi back in competition! I'm predicting Watanabe, Higuchi, Mihara, and Sakamoto might dominate their assignments. If Kihira has her lutz back, she also has a huge chance of winning it all. Haein and Isabeau also did really well last season so hopefully they make it to the finals this season!

He didnt do too bad last grand prix (Except sheffield Free) and skate canada excluded him from all spring comps so theres nothing to judge him on there. Roman's federation needs to stay invested in him. They don't have a male skater consistently better than him. Roman's not perfect, but men's figure skating is lucky to have him and fans are always thrilled to see him on the podium. He has some of the best PCS and artistry in the discipline.

Imagine how strong Canadian men would be if they got the same funding as ice dance. Not that they even get that much funding either. Nadiia Bashynka literally works as a barista to help cover her skating expenses.

I’ve done both skating and music. They’re really not that different. Both involve a lot of theater. Both are expensive. The biggest difference is that you kinda have to be sober for skating and in music, few ppl tend to be sober. As for Trusova, cool song, cool outfit, mediocre voice. I’ve performed with much better talents.

Jun has actually been working with Chi Hyun-jung since the pandemic began, and has spent very little time training in Canada since then. Brian has really just been with him in the K&C. It is near impossible for Korean athletes to train abroad due to the laws in South Korea, and he’s also in university with no distance learning option. Add that to the fact that Ghislain no longer works at TCC, and Jun really needs to be working on his technical content at this stage… and this is a very practical decision. We’ll have to see if he replaces Brian with another co-coach or just stays with Chi, but the split seems amicable and I don’t anticipate any crisis adjustment period, seeing as he was mostly training with Chi in Korea already.

What do you mean with Mai being unstable? This season she was literally the most consistent one. She was the only female who managed to win two Grand Prix titles as well as Grand Prix Final. Then at Worlds, she unfortunately had two mistakes in the free, but Kaori, Luna, Yelim, Haein etc. were way more inconsistent throughout the season. (No hate, just confused ❤) Also, you forgot to mention the European champion Anastasiia Gubanova!

I actually kind of Trusova’s new song! Even though she’s not the writer of the song, her voice is really pretty. With the Russians banned from international competitions, it’s probably good that she’s focusing on a new thing. Especially with the Eteri expiration date, if she starts really taking off in Russia and Europe, it’d be good for her to have a back-up plan if she gets injured on retires from skating.

Sounds like parents are involved very much 😵💫 I have to say Sasha seems very child like still as much as she wants to break out of her childhood self (pole dancing etc) I feel like her parents are pretty abusive and controlling about how her life goes or even her looks. I know people from different countries look and talk differently but I’m Russian and her behavior and body language screams that to me. I think most parents of all the famous skaters in Russia are abusive but in her case it for some reason stands out to me more than anyone else

TCC doesn’t have much left rn… They still do have some brilliant skaters there- Boyang and Rika but… I’m not sure Boyang is fully recovered and Rika re-injured herself and is also still tied to Mie Hamada to an extent. Being a Rika fan hurts. I guess Paola didn’t catch it but Rika posted her MRI and the fracture is still healing.
I’m looking forward to Grand Prix France, I LOVE Yuma and Koshiro. Also what’s with the dig at Mai? She’s like Japanese Anna nowadays.
Ohh but I’m excited about a certain new senior! Hana Yoshida’s jumps are *big* and while she’s working on consistency I’m excited to see her at grand prix events. Her hit 3As are massive. Last season she performed the highest scoring single jump all season- even higher scoring than Mao Shimada’s 3A. Performing well I think she could medal.
She says she wants to see the breakout stars but like… I feel like you need to watch juniors closer to see the new rising faces.
Xiangyi is also well loved. I’m surprised Paola knows neither.
In coming years we’ll get Jia Shin and Mao Shimada. Mao Shimada’s worlds skate had a lot of views and she’s not going senior for years. She has a pretty consistent 3A and can almost rotate a quad + she has good edges on both her flip and lutz + her spins are super fast.
And even speaking of Mao- Mao Asada says she’s working on her 3A again and her progress clips look great. She’s in her 30s!
It’s almost like she doesn’t care to check on the condition of anyone who isn’t the light of her life.

People always really hype up the juniors who can jump Ultra-Cs but I’m just so excited about Mao because she has great edges, her spins are fast/flexible, she can do spirals etc. She’s under Mie Hamada though, and she’s an unfortunate age- just like Mao Asada she’s too young to compete for the next Olympics.
I really do like Ami Nakai as well bc she’s a charming performer. She can also jump a 3A but a lot of her jumps including that one are a little bit scary.

The ISU does stream events like junior worlds so it’s not too hard to follow.
A lot has gone on- Yuzuru did a magazine shoot dressed in Gucci and Yuna Kim mentioned Mao Asada in an interview.
I only really try to follow skaters on Twitter/IG, events… and take looks at the subreddit.
I do admittedly like Japan best, but I follow the others!

Shizuka Arakawa, in her 40s, can jump big 2As and Midori Ito (the legend) can still occasionally in her 50s. Nobunari Oda (mid 30s) recently started posting himself doing really well executed quad combos.
I really l have a soft spot for Canada too. I wish that Patrick Chan and his gorgeous skating would come back. Also when she mentioned Canada not having a major/successful ladies skater a long time- I was like- A whole Kaetlyn Osmond exists. She competed around the same time as Evgenia and has a gold worlds medal.

I'm so excited for these grand prix assignments! I think (and hope) Mihara will be the most consistent in the entire circuit. Even on her inconsistent skates, she medaled in her last season's assignments and finals. Also, I'm glad to see Higuchi back in competition! I'm predicting Watanabe, Higuchi, Mihara, and Sakamoto might dominate their assignments. If Kihira has her lutz back, she also has a huge chance of winning it all. Haein and Isabeau also did really well last season so hopefully they make it to the finals this season!
Why did almost all the top skaters leave the Cricket Club? Something tells me it's a reputation thing. The skaters need a wheeling-dealing coach who can sway the judges in their favor?

I genuinely dont understand why people are suddenly giving up on Roman because of one bad nationals. He didnt do too bad last grand prix (Except sheffield Free) and skate canada excluded him from all spring comps so theres nothing to judge him on there. Roman's federation needs to stay invested in him. They don't have a male skater consistently better than him. Roman's not perfect, but men's figure skating is lucky to have him and fans are always thrilled to see him on the podium. He has some of the best PCS and artistry in the discipline.

There are so many strong male single skaters in Canada (Roman, Corey, Conrad, Stephen, Wesley, Beres, Aleksa, and Matthew to name a few) who all have potential to podium internationally but skate Canada totally neglects that category in comparison to the others. Imagine how strong Canadian men would be if they got the same funding as ice dance. Not that they even get that much funding either. Nadiia Bashynka literally works as a barista to help cover her skating expenses.

Celebrity for an athlete is quite short so she has about 4 years to make money. Also, I believe her song is not so bad: it is oriented to teenagers and very young adults. I’ve done both skating and music. They’re really not that different. Both involve a lot of theater. Both are expensive. The biggest difference is that you kinda have to be sober for skating and in music, few ppl tend to be sober. As for Trusova, cool song, cool outfit, mediocre voice. I’ve performed with much better talents.
