  • In the early 1930's Union Pacific Railroad Chairman W. Averell Harriman thought the railroad might make an asset out of the liability of having so much snow along its route. As a result, the Union Pacific Railroad opened Sun Valley in late December 1936, beginning the development of new industry and passenger travel that was so desperately needed in the west. Catering to the rich and famous, Sun Valley soon became a favorite location for movie production.
Produced by the Union Pacific Railroad, this short film clip is not a Hollywood epic, but it is a good example of ski resort promotion from the 1950's. Please subscribe to Vintage Ski Video.
