I like the last part of the voice-over "...for the passengers the landing can sometimes probably still seem somewhat uncomfortable" (my translation).
this is capt Ole Holdo hes my dash 8 instructor, Retired, now a senior examiner for CAA of norway and a examiner and instructor for Oxford Acadamy.. Great pilot with great knowledge.. Great handling of aircraft on the approach with those winds..
swiss001 justed talked about this airport today
The cool and very understated commentator also commented Neil Armstrong's moon landing live on Norwegian national TV. His name is Jan P. Jansen.
My mother actually was the stewartess.) Mrs Henriette Hansen :)
First flight to "Andøya" ( Farther north from Lofoten) where i was stationed, was in a small propell aircraft like this. Storm and super windy. Intense turbulence. I was looking out the window and i swear by ODIN. The runway appeared straight towards me, we were fucking sideways. The plane was 100 m up or so? We landed straight and smoothly seconds after. I still have no idea what happened.

I am
It may have been crosswinds there, but a crosswind isn't so dangerous as you may think :)What making this so hazardious looking and very dangerous is the mountains obviously. Here you can see how a windshear can play around with an aircraft. I have never seen something like this, nor experienced it,but i have on my 7th month as a 1st officer on a A319 experienced scary and dangerous winds and windshears. But it's nothing comparable to this one! 5 stars to a brave and very skilled pilot :)
Luckily the airport is shut down for airplanes now. That airport should never have been opened in the first place.
In memory of those who died on Widerøe Flight 839.
@musicmankeyz It's the huge wind gusts, up/downdrafts and very heavy turbulence which is the problem. Wideroe lost an aircraft due to structural failure because the winds are so turbulent.
I think I'll walk, thank you!!!
1988 i think..? I remember many landings like this one as a young passenger.
o crap, that pilot is a Wideroes wizard!
Great video! 👍👍👍
looks like trying to land in high cross winds, which can be tricky, if not deadly.
I fly with this guy any day.
@Morradisinbil Very skilled pilot. :o) I miss the twin otters, they were fun to fly with ( passenger not pilot ) :o)
0:32 excellent recovery
Great piloting!
The aircraft has twenty passenger seats and no stewardess.
The Captain
Great !
+Harald Olsen in norway Widerøe flew whit stewardess on the twotter. just because it was a requirement from the goverment.
