"Waterworld" (1995) and "The Postman" (1997) came out when it was popular to run down anything Kevin Costner did (beginning with "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" (1991)). Almost, for some reason, to throw shade on Costner's "Dances With Wolves" (1990) and assert it was a fluke. Nothing wrong with any of these films.
Well.. I guess I was hoping for a better experience with this new edition. I have the previous 4K release and I was underwhelmed with what we all got. I had high hopes for this release, but at nearly $50 I was not in any hurry to upgrade. Thanks Adam for the review. You probably saved me some cash. We have the same or similar equipment. Assuming you still have your Oppo udp-203 and LG Oled…so maybe I’ll give it another watch. Maybe I was being too hard on the previous 4K.
it’s always been a fav since i first saw it back in the 90s. fond memories. i own the earlier universal 4k release , and some scenes you can tell it’s sharper but for most part it’s bluray quality 1080p
Awesome review! I've loved this movie since the theater. So much cheese. So much fun. I too remember hearing about the costly and over budget production. I got the universal steel. I'm happy with it. I got a chuckle out of my wife when I told her the comparison part. She says we make it up. Some people just don't understand 😂😂
I got this realese and I love it! Great/fun movie, great pratical effects before cgi ruined everything. True I wish the other cuts were in 4k (yet to watch them), but the atmos track sounded great. Never owned on physical before, so it was a worthwhile buy to me.
I have a Sonas Arc. What's the best way to accompany that for a home theater setup. Should I get the subwoofer or more individual speakers? or the mini sub? too many options.
Thanks for the honest review. Wish I had seen it before ordering. Alot of people were saying this Arrow release looked ALOT better than its prior release. Feel like I spent $44 for nothing since I own the original 4k.
I have the Arrow Blu ray of this. If this new set had the other cuts in 4K I would buy it. Since it's just theatrical in 4K no buy for me. Same with World War Z 4K if it does not include the unrated cut. In both cases the longer versions are far superior.
Great video! The reason why the movie cost so much to make was because they had to keep rebuilding the sets because of weather… Im suprised you scored it so high!? Lol I really wasn’t impressed with the transfer unfortunately but ive upgraded my TV so Ill rewatch it:)
As always Adam, great informative video I have the universal Blu-ray and I thought that the picture and sound was great but I don’t know I absolutely love the movie but seeing your review I don’t think I’m going to double dip on this one if I had it on DVD then it would be worth the upgrade .👍🏻🙏
The only thing I don’t like about the other cut that I don’t like about the other cut on sale for $10 they put the directors cut on a Blu-ray which I don’t like at all, but I might consider picking this one up because it’s the better version video. It’s a little better quality movie and I’m not much into steel book collecting on 4K but I will consider picking this one up my friend thanks
In the UK Arrow did a similar release back in January 2019 but no Dolby Vision or Atmos. I got my new version earlier this week and all the extras and packaging seem the same with the only change being the documentary and main feature now reporting Dolby Vision. I did think in one shot at the film start that the nets between the catamaran hulls looked pink but otherwise it all seems fine. I would like to see "The Postman" also in 4K UHD This is my seventh purchased version of Waterworld on DVD, Blu Ray and 4K (I also have the Apple TV streaming version)
I might have to upgrade my universal 4K, but only when arrow has their sale on might have to pick up Arrows The Lighthouse at the same time. Will be getting Time Bandits & Weird science.
Thanks Mr 365, you save me some money. Arrow video what a wasted opportunity had you included all versions of the film in 4k I would have double dipped. Too bad .
So I played Avatar: The Way of Water on 4K , with the VIVID picture mode. Vivid picture mode just brought out so much sharper and brighter colors than CINEMA mode did. Am I really watching it the wrong way? Why is Cinema such darker in tone?
I’ve been waiting on a review of the Arrow 4K. Thanks! I was really hoping some of the deficiencies of the Universal transfer would have been addressed. Oh well.

Seriously underrated movie, one of my favourites 👍👍
The Ulysses extended cut is the best.
yeah me too, excellent additional footage. only in bluray tho.
I like theatrical better

Dennis Hopper is a legend. He was so unsettling in River's Edge with Keanu Reeves.
Never heard of it. But did see both of them in "Speed".
Well..

Great review! Watched this Arrow 4k transfer last night, and I loved it.
This is one of my favorite movies, i know it gets alot of hate, but its pretty awesome.
No Ulysses Cut in 4K, no buy. I am sick of companies doing this.

This channel rocks. Glad I found it. New subscriber.

Love that it gets a Dolby Atmos track! 😊

I also have the Arrow Blu ray and feel exactly the same about this one.
@@michaelwisslead5349 I'm so glad I'm not the only one! Thank you
I've never seen it but I heard it's basically Mad Max on the water

I liked you brought up the Universal 4k it helps a lot on if to purchase.

I always got the impression that this movie had bombed, but according to google it's $175M budget ended up pulling a $264M box office run

Does the Apple TV version include the longer version of the films? Or do you just get the theatrical one.
Thank you Adam.
Im glad it doesnt look much different. Saves an upgrade as i already have the universal 4k which i fhink is fantastic looking
Will you keep your universal copy too?
Sure.
Great review!
Hey 👋 maybe 🤔 I’ll might get this movie 🎥 on Blu ray for Christmas 🎄
I might have to upgrade my universal 4K, but only when arrow has their sale on might have to pick up Arrows The Lighthouse at the same time. Will be getting Time Bandits & Weird science.
One question is this scan better than the last (which I own)?
It looks to be the same source as the Universal disc just a better encode.
I bought it because I wanted the other cuts and had yet to open my Arrow Blu-Ray set. Now the question is do I sell my Universal 4K? 🤔 😉
Wait, is the Arrow release different than my Universal 4k?
Nevermind, he just answered my question 😂
Thanks Mr 365, you save me some money. Arrow video what a wasted opportunity had you included all versions of the film in 4k I would have double dipped. Too bad .
I’ll stick with the one I already have lol
Great review but for $43 I'll stick with the universal edition.
So I played Avatar: The Way of Water on 4K , with the VIVID picture mode. Vivid picture mode just brought out so much sharper and brighter colors than CINEMA mode did. Am I really watching it the wrong way? Why is Cinema such darker in tone?
nice

i have the old steelbook and i wont be upgrading
they are out of stock
I think Dennis hopper was the worst part of this Movie .
He was pretty over the top.
Lol, no way!, his part in this movie is what props up and gives it's that bad villain this movie needs...he's great in this flick !!!
