2002.... was the year for avril, lavigne, michelle branch and vanessa carlton. i loved that era and all three women. but i have to say. vanessa is my favorite. she's so original and unique.
her vocals have improved...she was way too young for the spotlight...this biz is about 20% talent...everyone can sing and play in the big leagues, few can handle the life well, tour, hang with others...endure...lead...she was not a leader and got swamped...again, too young for the limelight.
She's always been talented from the start, but her vocals do sound different now than they were in her earlier years. Its true that not many artist can handle fame at such a young age, many of them lose themselves and become irrelevant.
Jeff Porcaro Groove Vanessa got swamped because her music came first, she had to take a leadership role to present it properly, so she high tailed it away from the industry. One of the great music talents of our time, doing it her way.
She has said in many interviews for the newest album (Love is an Art) that she has worked very hard on her vocals and that's why she waited so long to put out live albums. She was ready for the spotlight, we just weren't ready for her. She is an actual artist and musician, not just some one hit wonder. In fact, I think 1000 miles is her worst song

that is how life goes. It was her path to walk. I don't think she would change anything.
@@theWZZA ...to be fair according to Lee Sklar who played bass on her first LP he said she was an excellent pianist

I want her to have a collab with Taylor Swift.
