  • Martin College, Issele-Uku (formerly Issele-Uku Girls' Grammar School) in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, is one of the secondary schools founded in the early 80s.
The change of name was due to the closure of the then Martin College, a Teachers Training College, located at Issele-Uku which was founded by Rev. Dr. S. W. Martin of blessed memory.
There is no doubt that the name of the College was a good way to immortalize this great Clergyman and humanitarian.
Rev Martin, as he was popularly called brought Issele-Uku to academic limelight as people from many other communities gravitated to Issele-Uku in pursuit of academic excellence.
Without Late Rev Martin, many people from the defunct Bendel State, now Delta State and Edo State would not have been able to acquire Western education.
There is also hardly any family in Issele-Uku that has not benefitted from his magnanimity of the legend directly or indirectly. He had passion for infrastructural development, education and Christianity.
The government of Delta State has given little attention to the fast decaying infrastructures at the College.
Some of the old students have provided laboratory equipment, basket ball pitch, blackboards and other facilities to complement what the government had done in the past.
The founding students had a lot of challenges then and the current students are still facing the same challenges. They include the need for a perimeter fence which will provide safety for students and staff, good toilet facilities, administrative block amongst others.
Today, the only female College in the town is crying for help from the Delta State Government, good spirited individuals, old students, lovers of education and the good people of Issele-Uku.
Old students are therefore appealing to members of ITG, Issele-Uku Forum, Issele-Uku Development Union and the general public to kindly consider looking at the challenges of the College and see how they can assist to make this College one of the best in Delta State.
