Line sticks to the coral like glue - carry a tank and reg to retrieve tangled fish - or stay out side the rig as much as possible, shoot and swim away from the rig. My biggest cubera off of Padre Island was 65 (scuba), Freeport 85 (scuba) Anegada BVI 35 (free diving) I passed up 100 pounders near Veracruz with my little arbalete in 1965. Fun video.

You should exange those flimsy reels for a Penn stile trolling reel, Unless you have your gun atached to a line and float, If you shoot a pelagic or big fast fish you can fight it with the reel and set full drag when shooting cave dvelers like snapper and gouper. Kept drag on full all the time and released when sighting fast open water fish. We didn't have Dynema in my day and used stainless cable, Still prefer cable no mater what people say, almost imposible to tangle yoruselff in it

Gotta use a reel to shoot big fish, at least when diving at depth.

Good dyneema doesn’t cut on rigs and doesn’t have memory like the cable.

    • @BradenSherron

That the fish was at depth. As you pull them up quickly the air expands in their air bladder causing it to have the inflated effect. At depth the air is compressed.
