    Paul's advice on slab:
    Step on volumes with toes and maximize the contact area
    Micro-adjust the foot position to stand higher on volumes
    Pody position + balance > Both hands gripping a hold
    Paul's advice on overhang:
    Match hands to avoid big dynamic moves if possible
    Take long rests between attempts to make them count

    • @GeekClimber
      @GeekClimber  4 года назад +6

      Yep, these are the 5 tips I learned from Paul that day!

    • @YodasMessenger
      @YodasMessenger Год назад +2

      Additionally on overhang: USE. THOSE. FEET.
      I too am guilty of doing this, relying on my arms too much and tiring myself out way ahead of time by not taking a few seconds to figure out where my feet will go during the climb.

  • @furiousmat
    @furiousmat 4 года назад +64

    that sinking feeling when you know you can do it but you no longer have the hands to make it for today and it's gonna have to wait.

    • @Alistair
      @Alistair 4 года назад +1

      I've still surprised myself sometimes even when feeling like that. If you figure out ways to use your feet more and stay more stable then you have less sudden load placed on your hands and can still conquer things (depending on what you're trying to do of course)

    • @GeekClimber

    Awesome session!🤘 Micro-adjustments: something I have thought about quite often and makes so much sense when on volumes; definitely see the results from your foot placement! Nice! The cave climb, you had it! 🙃 Great efforts. Probably a more common practice that we want to get back to the climb vs a long (5 min+) rest? Hmmm. Will try it. Still funny watching Paul in sneakers casually climbing. 😆 Lizzy is so fluid and well balanced on the slab. 👍

    Good stuff. On the cut loose after the dynamic move to the jug early in the steep problem, you seemed to be searching for where to put the feet back on, even at the last attempt. You could have cut down the time without feet on with a clearer action for that specific bit, it seemed to me.

      Honestly vans are not bad for climbing. Obviously nowhere near as good as climbing shoes, but they're flat, super light, and the rubber on the bottom is pretty grippy. There are worse shoes to climb in.

    Ok so what i mostly learn out of this video, is that i dont take enough rest

    • @Cacovangor
      @Cacovangor 4 года назад +3

      Zeinfeim Reldu'ulthaarn takes about 3min for atp via phosphagen and about 5min for atp via glycolysis to recover, though atop those are accumulated byproducts thus the energy may be there after 5min but harder to utilize.

      Zeinfeim Reldu'ulthaarn my apologies. The two ways you make your muscles work take about 3 and 5 minutes to come back, but over a climbing session you cannot make as good use of your muscles even after a 5 minute rest.

    • @GeekClimber
      @GeekClimber  4 года назад +7

      @@Cacovangor thanks a lot for simplifying the english lvl of the comment !
      Ok so yea even with break and 5m rest it is harder and harder to use a muscle as well over the span of a session
      But thats common sense isnt it ?
      It would be strange to be able to FULLY recover just whenever during one session aha

    Couldn’t you try a heel hook (on your right hand) on that white boulder, to avoid the big swing ?
    I’m not sure as I’m not watching this on a big screen 😅

      that's what I thought. I feel like he's still looking strong whenever he comes off too, I think the problem there is psychological and not physical. The holds are all so juggy and so you can just use your legs to generate force

    Let me write a few notes, as a climbing coach.
    Slab boulder's first step probably could be a right foot and left foot do an inside flag, this way you don't have to change feet.
    On the video you did this problem only once, then change to the other boulder. I would recommend to repeat a few times, because the rythmn speed, precision, flow of the first try is usually not perfect.
    On the second one you could have been faster at the last try, if you memorize better beta. You climbed quite slow and hesitate about some moves which are seconds on the wall. Think about the tempo of Adam Ondra!
    Hope my words were usefull!
    Great video, as always!
    Keep climbing!

    Lizzy is such a good climber and clearly has the optimal genetics for climbing. I wish I could be so tall and skinny 😂😂

      Tall is surprisingly unimportant. Very few pro climbers are tall. Skinny is just nutrition. A huge amount of climbing is good technique. I’ve seen small children and fat old men (fewer of those) climb routes where I thought I was lacking in strength.
