  • Here is a ride aboard the new Kawasaki R211T, which entered service on the (C) line on 2/1/24 at 11:22 AM, featuring a 10-car mixed consist of a hard shell (4040-44) and soft shell (4050-54), in order to collect data for both consists quicker. These consists got their flags and B-car MTA logos in November 2023 and January 2024, in preparation for their debut in service. They look a little strange on these due to the numbers being in different positions, because of the presence of articulation.
The R211Ts arrived between November 2022 and May 2023, and this was one of two consists to enter service in February on the (C). The other was 4045-49/4055-59 on 2/5/24. They are called R211Ts as they are testing articulated technology. These are the first open-gangway cars in the MTA since the days of the BMT C and D-Types, and other unique BMT equipment. Open gangway, meaning that you can seamlessly pass through all the cars without a separation or obstruction of doors.
In this video, we ride the new R211T (C) train on a southbound trip to Euclid Avenue, on one of the final legs of its journey, from Kingston-Throop Avenues to Ralph Avenue, while racing an R211A (A) train consist on the express track, 4079-4075 + 4090-94, which briefly met us at Utica Avenue.
This was recorded in the hard shell section, 4040-44, which was serving as the back half of the train. It is definitely nice seeing the (C) train use 10-car consists.
Taken 2/2/24, on the R211T’s second day in service. Glad I caught this thing in its full beauty, before the elements of NYC (and Pitkin/207th itself) degraded it. Please subscribe and stay blessed!

Very cool video. Back in February I witnessed the R211A (A) and R211T (C) passing by each other at Canal Street!

Thank you! That also sounds like a cool moment. They were going in opposite directions?

I don't know, but damn this is pretty close, in theory the motors on these R211s are the same but in application I think some motors may have a tad more acceleration than others!!

Great observation! As the builds are somewhat similar, it seems like it mainly comes down to a matter of safety, they'd likely allow the R211As to go faster than the R211Ts more often.
