How to build your own Kamado Grill / Flowerpot Smoker
What do you need:
2 Flower Pots
Fireproof Gasket
Spring Pan Form
Frying thermometer
Metal handle
Aluminium Spacers
Thread screws
Grid
Drill 3 small air holes into the first flowerpot and enlarge these holes step per step. Then drill some air holes into the spring form, put it into the flowerpot and use it as fire grate. Install the gasket at the top of the pot, add the grid and ready is the first part of the smoker.
Then drill two holes into the bottom of the second flowerpot and install the handle with the thread screws and aluminium spacer. Furthermore, drill a small hole at the middle of the pot and put in the frying thermometer. Also place the gasket at the top of the pot and place it onto the first pot. Here you are - your DIY Flowerpot.
Tipp: For indirect grilling, add a foil pan as heat deflector.

I love the editing on this video. This was quick and to the point. No useless padding or fluff, just exactly what I needed to know. Thank you.
Didnt even care to ask us for a like a subscribe lol.. love it
The Teflon coating of the pan will disintegrate at high temperatures releasing toxic fluorine compounds!!
Im sure it would burn off after the first "seasoning of the grill" i burn a new grill for the same reasons
Very Cool!! The one thing I would add are 3 stainless steel guides screwed into bottom pot top that hold the upper pot from ever getting blown off. This would also center the top when you put it on.
Wow.....one of the coolest DIY videos ive seen in a long time.....this is actually a beautiful little BBQ/smoker...... definitely making one. Thanks for shareing
Very clever design 👏👏
wow a bit of everything, just love it!
As simple as genious!

Thank you for watching and I´m glad you like it :) Cheers Chris
First saw one of these made by Alton Brown on Good Eats over 12 years ago. You've upped the game. Great job!
Thank you very much! Glad you like it :)
Sooooooooo cool!
Nice project, this is really cool! Super simple but big potential. I have to attempt this build as well! Thumbs up!
Genius!!!! Wow, what a great idea. Thanks for sharing

Brilliant. Great idea. 👍
Dude that was awesome. I am going to do that now!
Very nice! Brilliant idea!
Thank you very much, glad you like it :)
amazing idea
Very cool!
Great job!!!
Vundabar!!!!! That's awesome.
Thank you very much :)
Fitting the handle over the hole seems would make the handle very hot. I'm thinking either a deflector cap for the smoke or side handles
Was thinking the same thing. And add some washers to the inside because those bolts are gonna crack the pot and pull through I believe.
So creative
Awesome !!
Great idea!
Wow that's awesome really ! ^^ I was looking for a cheap barbecue as a Student and that will be perfect !
Glad you like it :) Definitely worth a try, buddy!
Damn you got me drooling!
oh my god, you are incredible
Thank you! Glad you like it :)
Wow. Wow! Das ist ja mal ne geile Idee. Hut ab!
Danke dir! Freut mich, dass es dir gefällt :)
Really cool idea, might try it
Thank you very much, and please let me know, how it turned out :) Cheers Chris
Awesome Video!
I thought about building one but never pulled the trigger.
Kinda have a few cookers already.
Thanks buddy :) I made this one for a German TV Show and it was very good fun and surprisingly it worked really well - of course not comparable with a "real" Kamado, but very good for 2 flowerpots ;) btw. you can't have enough cookers :p
Genius!!!
So, so simple and effective
Thumbs up job! I'm definitely going to build this.
Cool! Please let me know how it turned out :) Cheers Chris
Did you do it lol -- if not, there's still time

Beautiful 👍
Genial, tolles Video.
Danke dir sehr, David!
love it
Thank you very much :)
Question about the handle: it says “secure with nuts” but he is clearly using his fingers.
Love it
You win.
Jeff Carmack gold!
He was probably using a small nut driver
Lmao
Ideen muss man haben. Sehr cool 👌🏼
Freut mich, dass es dir gefällt :)
I'm building one for my boat for when I go fishing, awesome job ;)
Thank you very much and have fun with your new grill :)
I watched your post last year and again this year, i looked at the design and made a few changes and came up with quite a good design, its a shame we cannot post vids to pay homage to your design
Great. Thanks

+COOK WITHMEAT haha
I have to try this
u know what... this is pretty kewl hmmm might give it a shot
great, thanks!
Grilling a Chuck roast, tough as nails
It clearly wasn't tough.
Didn’t look tough as nails to me.
Great ideea
Thank you very much :)
Wie geil is das denn!!!! Prima Idee. :)
Danke dir sehr, Sven!
You just saved me hundreds of dollars. Thank you
That cut of meat was cooked to perfection!!
Overcooked by the looks of it. Way past pink
It looked tough to me. 🤷🏻♀️
Richtig geil 👍
Dankeschön Lars!
Nice
Very cool...
Thank you very much :)
Hey,
What diameters are the plant pots and grid? Thanks
nice! that's the one
Glad you like it, cheers Chris
👌 Awesome 👍 TY
Drilling the springform upside down would have avoided drill holes in the table surface
Even better, use some duct tape before drilling.
@@Jarejander69 if I put duct tape under the metal plate and drill through it, there will be still holes in the table.
Silly I tried drilling it upside down. The blood would rush to my head something fierce.🤗😉🤗
I love the idea. Where did you find the pots? And what size are they
tolle idee
A man cooking meat....enough said! Bravo!
Thank you very much!
Someone has probably mentioned this. I think using eye or hook bolts when mounting the handle would make it handy for hanging smoking pork belly or any meat you'd the smoke circulating around. Might increase the capacity.
Geniale Idee 👍
Mehr kann man nicht sagen.
Gruß B
Danke dir sehr!
beautiful, nicely shot too!
Thank you :)
Good 👍
THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST SMOKER BBQ GRILL I HAVE EVER SEEN ! THANK YOU FOR SHARING IT ! NOW I DON'T HAVE TO SPEND A MILLION DOLLARS BUYING ONE ! I REALLY LIKE THE CLAY POT IDEA INSTEAD OF METAL, ITS MORE NATURAL.
You don't have to spend a million dollars to buy one other wise also!
Sehr gute Idee. Das wird durch die Decke gehen. Ich bin sicher.
Danke dir sehr!
NICE! a few questions:
-the best thing of the kamados is the ability to keep the heat for a long long time. with this kind of setup how is the heat stability? anything near the original kamados?
-what's the highest temperature that can be reached with this setup safely and without breakings the pots?
-what's the pot's size in your case?
Glad you like it :) Honestly, I think (at least I did it this way) the best way is just go to your local hardware store and find a pot and grid that matches. I hope that helps, cheers Chris
about heat maintainment?
Doubtful about its ability to retain heat , Cos there is no insulation. Look up homemade tandoors , you will find they have insulation to retain heat.
Man, this is literraly two garden pots. Very neat oven, but cannot compare to a expensive kamado.....
Love this..but how much heat you think it will handle before cracking?
Yeah that's why I would have added a smaller pot inside the bottom to be the fire box to retain more heat
what temperature range did you get? how hot ? thanks
how can we clean this after the use and howcome the charcoal aren't spread everywhere from the bottom of the flower pot during the grilling process?
Wow👍👍👍
Hi, really want to make this bbq but i was wondering what size clay pot you used?
Glad you like it :) Honestly, I think (at least I did it this way) the best way is just go to your local hardware store and find a pot and grid that matches. I hope that helps, cheers Chris
Hah! Genial!
Danke dir :)
Well, now that you've done it, you should see why the commercially produced kamado costs what it does. The effort and skill you displayed has value. If you were to give us the cost break down of all the parts involved, it's cheap, until you add in your tools and labor. One or two questions though; how much gap is there between the firebox pot and the outer pot, and did you cut the bottom out before laying your charcoal grate in ?
Great video. I see they are DEROMA machine made pots. Please tell me what Model, Size of pots and Grill Diameter is important to know and would help a lot.
Glad you like it :) Honestly, I think (at least I did it this way) the best way is just go to your local hardware store and find a pot and grid that matches. I hope that helps, cheers Chris
Hi! Wo hast du die Dichtbänder her?
Gerne!
Me: I’ll drill just one more hole! Pot: Shatters
Looks good but we would put a smaller pot on the bottom acting like the fire box double insulator. As the second smaller pot which would hold the charcoal would hold most of the heat and the outer bigger pot would help keep the heat from draining out.
Hammer.
Danke dir Klaus!
Lg Christian
Thank you for the very concise and short video. waded through a bunch of garbage videos that go on forever with no real detailed directions and a lot of talk or video more along the lines of, "Hey everybody, look what I built! don't you wish you were me?". I especially like that you showed the kind thick meats most people want to smoke and how it turned out inside and out instead of a couple of small sausages or 1 half a rack of thin ribs. It lets me know your design won't give me a raw deal or an extra expensive briquette for all the effort building this. Many thanks.
Coole idee
Danke dir ;)
Was kamen die pro Stück?
What cut of meat did you cook looks like a loin but was it pork or beef? also i seen others use another pot with an insulator is one with an insulator better than the other especially for longer cook times?
It was a roast beef! Of course insulation is always a good idea :) Hope that helps, cheers Chris
Silly question: Why do we use the firegasket tape, and most importantly, is it considered safe ?
Very good Idea, so anyone can tell me whats the difference from a 1200$ or 2000$ ceramic bbc on the market?
Are those 16" Terra Cotta pots or bigger?
genuinely surprised at that good work mate, a warning about the drilling terracotta would have been nice, my teeth are on edge :)
H.J. Peters. Thx
Shouldn't you use a 'for ceramic' drill bit?
Jack Wyatt A masonry bit works well, but no hammerdrill, just rotation.
What size are these pots? Largest i can find is a 12inch pot.
Where do u deflect the heat? Maybe iys me but it looks more like a grill then a smoker
Tolle Idee 👍🏻
Ein paar Änderungen zum "Kamado" aus Galileo (z.B. Griff/Thermometer), oder?
Testgerät oder Evolution?
Weiter so 😊
Mega Stark!
Danke dir sehr!
