Hi Rachel, you mention a fretboard chart , and asked if this would be useful, which it would!. Again a really enjoyable lesson
Yes, sorry John I have made a start on it but there just aren't enough hours in the day etc. I will get to it one day!!
Great lesson! Can hardly wait for more? ❤️
Thanks Julie and as always, Thanks for the support!
You make it so clear, so grateful, thank you

These lessons are great, just what I have been looking for. I am learning more in a few lessons than I have with books in such a short period of time. Your teaching skills are perfect.

My pleasure David!
Very clear and excellent pace. Easy for beginners to follow . Encouragements are frequent and welcomed. Thanks.
Thanks for the lovely comment. Such positive feedback is always appreciated.
Thank you for yet another excellent lesson. Although I've been dabbling with bass for a few years, and ukuleles for a decade, I find there is always something to learn, even from relearning the basics.
You're very welcome!
Thank you Rachel for the great tutorials on Bass Ukulele. your teaching method is so user friendly and informative. You are providing so much support for Ukulele players around the world. Thank you again from Australia.
Thank You Barry, lovely comments like yours really do make it so worth while. Much appreciated, :-)
you are the best teacher ever! I bought a bamboo U Bass and just love the way it sounds. all my best from Florida.
That is awesome to hear, Thank You. So glad to be inspiring you and definitely sending greetings all the way to Florida from Wales.
I just got a Uke bass last wednesday and have learned so much from your lessons. You are a great teacher. Even playing the riff for Down on the Corner by CCR. Sooo happy!! Thank youu...
Awesome start for you Yasmin, very glad to be helping. Thanks
I am an example of one who had printed off one of those visual aids that really didn't sink in until I completed your 5th lesson! 😁I was pleasantly surprised to learn how easy it was to learn the notes beyond the 5th fret... in theory! Now, the challenge will be to put the theory into the actual playing. I know that I've said it before, but I really do learn well with your teaching style. Perfect amount of information in palatable and digestible pieces. The play-alongs really do help to train the brain and build muscle memory.
Thanks Karen, I am just so glad to be helping and more importanly, you are enjoying too!
So enjoy the simplicity of your teaching. Thoroughly engaging.
How do I spell the word you greet us with each time😊
Thank you! 😃 I say Shwmae which means, hello, how are you.
Looking forward to learning more theory…circle of fifths and also the upcoming lessons…thank you..can’t wait to see the visual❣️
Thanks Peg. Yes, I was really hoping to do the Circle of 5th over Christmas when I was off work but building work in the house got in the way unfortunately. As soon as I can I will.
@@UkuleleWales There is no rush…you’ve already given me so much to work on and keep me busy…thank you❣️
Thank you for helping alleviate some of the pressure in learning the entire uke neck. I would love access to the full chart to have as a reference.
Hi Kimberly, I REALLY must get on with the chart, I have made a good start but keep putting it down the list, apologies. Totally agree, learning the fretboard can be very daunting when looking at all of it in one go.
Rachel! I just ran through this lesson using my new Kala ruby red California U-bass!❤️❤️❤️!! Oh, it sounds so, so good. I'm very grateful to have discovered your awesome channel and am having lots of fun. I find your reminders on right- and left-hand placement much needed and appreciated. And, in conclusion regarding my new bass: Woo-hootie-hoooo! 😄
FANTASTIC to hear Jules! I am loving how excited you are with it, just like me! Named Ruby by any chance?
@@UkuleleWales Oh for sure! Ruby is her name! LOL
In Lesson 5 on the bass uk you asked if we would like to have the visual of the fret board...YESSSSSS PLEASE!!
Sorry, Evan, I did make a start on it but school has been just mad the last few weeks. I'm working on a large poster with the fingerboard, keys, notes etc.
Thanks again for a great lesson to help me learn to use my new u-bass. I would like a visual view of the u-bass fretboard notes. As a scientist and engineer I thrive on visual aids as summaries, so it would help me greatly. Surprisingly, there are very few good examples out on the big bad internet, so I’d be keen to see what you have in mind.
Hi Neil, glad to be helping. I have made a start on a visual graphic for the fingerboard but others things keep getting in the way! I'd like to say soon but it will get done one day, promise.
Another great lesson Rachel. You’re quite correct I’m very cocky about the notes on the E & A strings, but ask me about D&G and get that look on my face.
I’m only playing “survival” bass (root and 5th) at the moment in our little 3 man Uke band but it makes a huge difference.
Thanks again.
James
Nothing wrong with "survival" bass (LOL) James, I'm sure there have been careers based on it over the years! Keep at it, sounds like you are enjoying!
Hi Rachel,
I’m now pretty happy to accompany my Ukulele Group on Bass just playing single notes to match their chords.
It feels like the right time to progress a little further and I’m intrigued to learn about “survival bass (root and fifth).
Could you help please?
Many thanks
Thanks Rachel for all your time and your lessons. I would like to get the fret board page, thanks.
Thanks. I will hopefully get the fretboard graphice finished - I just keep forgetting. Thanks fr the reminder!
Only just got to this lesson much later than most. Any news on the Visual Aid that you talked about during the video?
Hi, apologies, it is something I really do keep meaning to do. I made a start on it but there is still quite a bit of work to finish it off. Thanks for the reminder!
Hi Rachel, super lesson again! Thank you! Although I am a bit confused about the fingerin. I have not played with one finger, but with all four. Now in this video you play the first fret with the index finger and then you move and play the second fret with yout index, then middle finger and then ring and little finger together.I assume that that is the correct way of doing it? Right?
Thanks. Yes I do try and encourage moving around the fretboard in a logical way (if that makes sense?), so will often move up with my first finger so my other fingers can reach high notes. I do intend to do some more lessons looking at both right and left had techniques soon and I try and talk about this more. 👍
@@UkuleleWales Thank you! How great! Am looking forward to it 🙂
Rachel. A question about playing along with the Ukulaliens and other tunes; in many of the songs where there are CGF or ADG chords, I have been using a barre on the 3rd and 5th frets for what I take as simplicity. Is this OK when playing a bass uke, or is it de rigeur to move the middle or ring finger across the fretboard in turn? Apologies if I have not expressed my question lucidly.
Hi Alan, as long as the string is being pressed down enough to sound properly. It's someting I wouldn't do and you may find in the future it might hinder you "walking" around with your fingers but really, whatever works for you.
@@UkuleleWales I'll mend my ways and await the "walking" lesson(s) with eager anticipation. Thanks Rachel.
Hello, My bass uke has a fret marker on the 10th fret as opposed to the 9th is this wrong?
Hi, there are a few basses that have the fret marker on the 10th. Basses do normally have it on the 9th but ukuleles normally have it on the 10th and I have a couple like that too. You just need to remember where it is.
I do have one question which I hope will get answered. How do you know which note to play? Which A or B or whatever. This has stymied me.
Great question. The easiest answer is either, as long as it is the named note. I do though try to keep them quite close together, so either higher or lower for as many as possible.
Thank you so much! Should I say duh, I was really complicating this.
@@loree3212 No, it's easy to over think things when they are new. Always feel free to ask any questions, please.
