  • I like sliceforms, because you only have to cut out the parts and slide them together...
    I found this pattern here:

    I don't understand which piece connects with what...are you just placing these pieces in random slots...how do I know which ones go together, since there are no verbal instructions...I really want to make one but kinda gave up, can you explain or give more details please.

      Every piece is connected to 5 other pieces.
      Maybe you should have a look at the slieform with squares and 5 different colors.

      I think you will be able to make this one then.
      Let me know!!!

      The unit has FIVE petals. The easiest 3D "ball" that you can make with a five sided unit is a 12 piece pentagon.
      Each corner of this pentagon has three pieces. Begin by connecting two units into adjacent slots on the starter unit. Next connect those two new units together. That makes your first corner. Watch the video ( 1.28 - 1.53) to see how this is done.
      Add the next unit to the starter unit, then connect it to its neighbor. Continue unit all five slots of the starter unit are filled and all the pieces that fill these slots are connected to each other. These 6 units form half a ball of 12 units. See the result at the 2:56 mark. See how each of the five slots on the bottom unit is filled with one unit, and see how each of those units are connected to its neighbor at the bottom, leaving two other slots free.
      I recommend that you slow the video down to half or three-quarter speed, or just pause it a lot, so that you can follow along.
      I recommend making a few of the 12 piece balls before you experiment to see what other shapes you can make.

    what kind of paper works best for these projects. what should I buy and can I get supplies at Hobby Lobby or is there a website online to buy paper and tools?

      I used paper that weighs 120 - 180 grams per square meter. So twice the thickness of ordinary printer paper...

    Can someone PLEASE tell me how to put these puzzles together, every video I find go too fast and do not walk you through it. I am having trouble figuring out which slot goes where and can't find any numbered instructions. I am making them for a baby shower very soon

      what exactly do you not understand?

    • @rlwemm
      @rlwemm 6 лет назад

      Press the Cogwheel button on the left side of right hand side set of buttons at the bottom of the RUclips screen. You can change the speed (faster or slower) here. This one gives you a choice of playing the video between a quarter speed (0.25) and double speed (2).
      Or you can make good use of the PAUSE button.
      See my comments above (to countrybunkin) about how to put the units together. You can make a lot of different shapes but the ball in the video is a 12 unit pentagon. Each unit has 5 sides (petals and slots). Each "corner" connects 3 units.
      Begin with one unit (Bottom Unit).
      Round One:
      Slide a unit into each of its five slots.
      Connect all these new five units to its neighbor.
      You should have a half ball.
      Round Two:
      Slide a unit into one slot on one of the units and the next slot of the next unit. That is, it should connect two of the units in the previous row.
      Add another four units (to make a total of five) in the same manner.
      Connect each of these units to their neighbor, just as you did on the row below.
      End with one unit (Top Unit).
      You should have five slots available on your completed row.
      Connect your last unit to sliding its slots into the remaining slots in the previous row.
      Viola! One ball.

      An alternative method is to make two half balls (6 units) and then connect them around the middle. Each of the middle units has two remaining slots. These two slots are connected across TWO units on the opposing hemi-sphere. One slot is connected to one unit and the other to the next adjoining unit.

      There are no numbers with these - you are just supposed to slide the cut slits into each other like notches. I'm not very good at explaining, but that is basically what I do when making these.

    Is this card stock or paper?

    • @rlwemm
      @rlwemm 6 лет назад

      It works best with card stock paper, or something slightly more substantial. I am about to try making a ball using milk bottle sides. Then I will try using flattened PET drink bottles - the ones that have boring sides with no pattern between the top and the bottom sections. The PET plastic might be more of a challenge as it wants to keep its curve. Plastic milk bottles often come with sides that have four sides that have significant flat patches. The challenge will be finding flat patches that are big enough to work with.
