I'm an Amateur Radio enthusiast. I love the hobby and experimenting with radios, antennas and software. I have a lot of fun. On my RUclips channel I upload videos mostly on the Icom 7300 and Icom 7610 as well as Ham Radio software programs. I hope to inspire people to get involved in Amateur Radio.

THANK YOU!!!!!!! Even after 5 years this still holds up for users of the latest version of both WSJT-X, HRD and the latest firmware on the ICOM 7300. It had been several years since I had used FT-8 and this got me back up to speak quickly and efficiently. Thanks, KM4HOC!
Fantastic! Just purchased the IC-7300 and also Ham Radio Deluxe so this is a great help Thank you. Do you have any video's on setting up SSTV? Your videos arte great, easy to follow.
It's nice to hear from you and thanks for commenting. Sorry, no SSTV but I would like to someday. Best wishes and 73!
Thanks for this video. I'm an old ham returning to the hobby and brand new to digital. I've been struggling with how to get these two programs to coexist. So simple when you know how. This helped me a ton.
Is good to hear from you and thank you so much for commenting. I appreciate the input, good luck and good DX!
12:32 This is exactly what I was looking for. HRD and WSJT-X fighting over the USB and USB-D mode. Was driving me crazy.
Thank you for commenting, GL and good DX 73, Rich-K0PIR
This is a great video. 73 DE oe5vvm
Thank you for watching Thomas and thank you for commenting. I really appreciate the input. Take care, good luck and good DX!
I really do love your "no nonsense" videos. They are very informative and provide the knowledge we need to get up and running. Thanks and keep up the great work! KC3OOF
Thanks Gerald and thank you so much for commenting here. Best73!
@@HamRadioAdventures No problem. You deserve the praise. One of the videos i found was an hour and 50 minutes with live chat and lots of rag chewing. Fine for the radio, but not when I need info. You are my go to source for information now.
Thanks for the info. Was having trouble getting connected to HRD but after following your setup it loaded up and worked perfectly. Great job explaining.
This was timely. Great info as usual. I think you solved the problem of the radio spontaneously changing out of USB-D with the none setting instead of data/pkt. Now to get HRD logbook to quit accepting duplicate entries.
Scott Campbell thank you for commenting. Duplicate entries, hmmmm. Are those duplicate entries coming from a WSJT-X QSO?
Just used this setup, had to use data pkt instead of none to enable output. PTT worked with either though. Great videos, just let a comment on your dual wire set up, not been able to send you a comment straight from your web site. Keep up the good work.
Look forward to reviewing these videos. Thank you for your time and help.
I appreciate your videos... seriously thinking about purchasing an IC7300. ed KG2MD
Ed Adams thank you so much and thank you for watching the videos. I love mine and used it everyday while on vaca in AZ. Best portable rig out there and a fine base rig. Best 73 from South Dakota!
Thank you for making this video.
Hi Chris. it's nice to hear from you and thank you so much for the comment. Take care and best 73!
I have them talk, but heck if I know what happened to my antenna tuning. I am just starting out and have a ways to go but really appreciate your RUclips KF0AIZ
Don Johnson thank you! 73!
Ham Radio with K0PIR I am struggling with the different bands and when to switch due to noise. I finally figured out not to transmit on top and to cause scatter. Seen you had a trip to IA. What part. My kids are in Hancock county.
Don Johnson Yes I had a great time in Iowa and plan on going back. Usually 40 m is good in the early and late morning and then 20 m is good in the late morning and afternoon. Then back to 40 m. That’s what I do and sometimes I get on 30 m. I hear 17 m and 10 m has been open in some areas. Those are good daytime bands. If you’re using a 7300 check out this video for receiving tips. I use fast AGC nowadays, so I don’t turn it off as I used to. www.k0pir.us/icom-7300-receiver-settings/
Near the end when you are showing how to connect WSJT-X to the Ham Radio Deluxe software, the Record tab only shows a depreciated second server, not the setup you have in this great video. In my case, everything seems to be working fine except the HRD logbook doesn't update from WSJT-X. Any suggestions?
Thanks for posting here and nice to hear from you. Use the deprecated server port 2333 in WSJT-X and in HRD Logbook use that same port 2333 for "Receive QSO notifications...". Make sure you have a database selected in that one too. GL and let me know!
Awesome advice once again. Thanks a stack Rich
Thank you for commenting. The FT8 mode is a lot of fun and it's so easy to make contacts with it and WSJT-X. I was trying to get back to do more CW, but FT8 pulled me away again. Thanks again and best 73! - Rich, K0PIR
i have been having troubles lately with not being able to log any QSO's for month. Bear with my ignorance, I am a begtnner. I had a computer failure and it's been a month and trying to get my settings right. For me to get a power level of 30 I am looking at adjusting my Mic input to 50. Your is a 8 or so. When I go to my dummy load I need tp adkist to 77. Can this be a problem?
It's nice to hear from you and thanks for commenting. It will vary on the 7300. Check the Power level slider on the right hand side of WSJT-X. Raise it some and your power will go up. As long as the ALC is within the red ALC bar you're fine. I usually have mine around the number 5 which is directly below that red bar. Verify your computer clock, that is a big reason for not being able to make QSO's. My e-mail is good on QRZ.com. Best wishes this holiday season and 73!
Thanks for sharing. I just got my IC-7300 about two weeks ago. Do you recommend getting the Ham Radio Deluxe software this early on? I have run the voice portion and am interested in checking out the digital side.and it looks like you need HRD to do some of the digital modes.
Thanks
Kevin

Congratulations! Thanks for commenting and great question. If money is not a problem, then yes it is a very good logging program and DM780 is great for PSK31 and RTTY. If you want to try a free, but slightly harder program to learn look at DXLab Suite. WSJT-X is free too and is great for FT-8. You can't run FT-8 with Ham Radio Deluxe and DM780. Best 73!
Hi Rich. Excellent video. Do you need the 7300 firmware update to work using this setup? I am nervous about bricking my 7300 and won't do it until I really need it. :-)
Greg...
Hi Greg nice to hear from you and your older firmware will work just fine. The new firmware and the internal settings just looks slightly different. I do have a video out on doing the firmware upgrade and it’s not a difficult process. I understand your hesitation though, I am that way too. Thanks again have a great day and 73.
Good rundown. Thx.
Having CI-V USB Port setting set to "Unlink to [Remote]" prevented my IC-7300 from connecting to my computer. Switched it back to "Link" and it worked fine.
You may need to set it up. See: www.k0pir.us/icom-ic-7300-specifications-features/icom-7300-screen-captures/
Very nice and clear thanks much and 73
Is there any reason you can think of as to why Ham Radio Deluxe keeps turning my IC-7300 out of data mode? I'm trying to use FT-8 and I have the Rig set to HRD. If I close HRD and just run WSJT directly to the radio it stays in digital. With HRD as the rig is will exit digital and just stay in USB. It turns off digital the moment a transmission is started?
Hello and thank you for commenting. That is a great question. I don’t know why it does that, but I have to change Mode to None in WSJT-X. So, I end up setting the mode manually on the radio and it stays there. Thank you again and Best 73!
Hey Rich, got your email and first thing I did was check the HRD site for FAQ on hardware requirements, specifically the OS. I'm running a Linux Mint OS connected to my 7300. I cannot find whether HRD supports Linux or not. If it doesn't, I need to stop right here not delve any further into the complexities. LOL
rvnmedic1968 no you won’t find it working on Linux and not Mac OS either, just Windows PC. I’ve been testing out CQRLOG with my Linux laptop and although it took a little while to get going it is working pretty good. I want to get back to it and see how far I can get because it will integrate with FLdigi and WSJT-X pretty nicely. Thanks again have a great day and 73.
Just got the 7300 to replace my Kenwood 590s. All good...however...using your settings created on conflict. HRD and WJTX are in synch, contacts are made and logged, rcv and xmit are fine....but I can no longer use my computer speakers. It uses Audio Codec as it should for the radio function, but if I use my computer default speakers on the computer it cuts off all computer audio. I can only use the radio Codec. Any suggestions?
When I make a contact on FT-8 and the dialogue box pops up at the end to add the QSO to my logbook and I click OK it does not show up on HRD logbook

Perfect!!!
K0PIR de KD9AUY Stan, Ever since the last Windows update I am unable to get any of my digital programs to work correctly. I keep getting Error sound device being used by other application. My waterfall is not showing and I am not deciding anything. I am really getting frustrated. I have searched google and you tube with no avail. I can't be the lone ranger here, what am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance 73
I just got my ic-7300. I have followed your video 3 times and I have no transmitted audio. I have checked the speaker setting and it is on USB audio codec and wsjtx is on the same. The radio keys up but no audio output. Any idea's?
Hi,
Thank you for commenting. I will be at Hamvention this week and will return on the 23rd. In the meantime please try the FT8 forum in groups.io
Best 73!
Never mind just got it to work. The power slide bar in wsjtx was to low and would not allow audio to flow to the radio.
If these riggs have WiFi can't we just connect via WiFi router, using a USB connection can just increase background noise and more wires. There must be a work around.
Mindfulmunchkin I’m not sure if I understand, but there isn’t Wi-Fi in these rigs. Yeah, the 7610 has an ethernet connection.
I'm sorry, but I have no idea what I just watched. Do you have any videos for an absolute beginner with not so much alphabet soup?
Arte Conforti it is nice to hear from you and I hope all is well where you are. Try this it is the easiest way to get going www.k0pir.us/icom-7300-wsjt-x-ft8-easy-way/
Sadly I had nothing set up and came here to learn... not a place for noobs!
Head over to k0pir.us and just do a search for HRD. You’ll find good stuff for new Hams and if you have any questions please just comment in my article or on here. Good luck and good DX!
