- Took out the cobra on a chilly November day. Had my brother in law and nephew drive around and bang some gears.

My dream car from that era/generation of Mustangs. God I'd love to find one in good shape but also in my budget, lol. These are getting harder and harder to find. Beautiful piece of automotive engineering.

@@ThePery123 the modular V8 is pretty reliable and the issues that they do have are well documented. You can find a ton of videos on RUclips going over them and what to look for!

I just bought an 96 svt cobra with 77k miles has a loose valve and broken manifol….about 1.5k to 3k in fix but MAN it is something else and also came from LA 2 hour and 30 min drive and no over heated nouthinggg

Nice, simple and clean; sometimes less is more when modding a car. I've got 4 exhaust configurations that i play with on my LS3 and straight pipes with the 3inch dual X system it sounded very very similar to your car but i swapped to Pypes M80s instead of the 18" pipes to be nicer to my neighbors since i leave at 5am to work.

From my experience 40s are kind of restrictive because of the design. I put magnaflow and my cobra opened up. VERY NICE COBRA!
Thanks Raymond, yeah those 40’s wont be staying for long. I got plans in the future so might go SLP or Magnaflow with a straight through design.

Just go straight pipes with no mufflers or cats. Hell pull half the piping off and basically run open headers with side exit pipes. Your car will open up alot. Nothin restricting the airflow.

Nice! I have a 03 gt. I swapped a 03 cobra t56 6 speed and aluminum drive shaft. Thinking about putting a vortec on it, it would be cheaper than a cobra engine swap. Good luck!

Gorgeous ride my friend. I have a 98 as well that's supposed to be laser red but was repainted to a candy apple red. I have 4.10s as well, what does your car tach at 65 mph in 5th gear?
Thanks Brian, at 65-70 the tach hovers right above 2000. No issue at all there but 1st gear definitely has been shortened.

Also gotta get my lowering springs installed before I get subframe connectors. Love that color man and super clean Cobra. I gave $5k for mine but have about $7500 in her now after just mostly fixing issues and getting an sct tuner. 😁
Thanks Jesse, your cobra would love those 4.30’s. Kinda wish I went that route but have plans for going turbo in the future so opted for the 4.10’s. Lowering and subframes made a huge difference. Worth every penny imo.
@@wrenchheadz5384 I don't have plans for boost in the foreseeable future, otherwise I would have gone 4.10s. What order would you recommend? I have the 4.30 gear set, bearing, and seal kit already. Don't have the subframe connectors or the lowering springs or anything else for the suspension so I guess my main question is would you go the subframe connectors (since I know the Cobras have more rigidity than the GTs) or would you go lowering springs first?
@@SimplyJ3sse your gonna love the 4.30’s. Cant believe how much the gears woke up the cobra. Probably the best mod i’ve done so far. Only downside was that it shortened 1st gear but def worth it. I lowered my car first before I did the subframes. You wont go wrong either way but def get both done if you plan on giving it gas often followed up with a nice set of stickys. Too many guys forget about suspension/wheels but gotta be able to put the power down in my opinion. My car feels planted with minimal body roll compared to stock. That thing felt like it would tip over when I bought it and looked like it sat on stilts lol.
@@SimplyJ3sse if you got 430 run em. I would recommend 456 for someone planning to stay na. I know it sounds crazy but these rev to 7k and have a long geared 5 speed DO NOT FEAR THE GEAR in these cars throw conventional wisdom of cars right out the window. 4.10 is bare minimum for na imo but I wouldn't go less than 430 and would even do 456 if I did it again. I did 410 on my old 97 and thought it would be "too much" it was alot better than stock but if I knew then what I know now I would have done 456 and not looked back. The steep gears REALLY wake up these cars alot. Since u already got 430s go for them.

Sounds amazing, really does. Although that 1-2 shift flattened the synchros. Is that a common issues with this Gen Cobra ? I have a 19 GT premium PP1 6 speed and I love the 7500 red line and it’s high revving nature. It’s my 3rd Stang. 93 Foxbody , 13’ GT500 and now my 19’. But I’m shopping rhe Terminator right now but if I could find a low mileage example I dig this Cobra. Such a light car NA car and this thing sounds great. Are the synchros an issue?
To be honest I havent had a problem that im aware of with the synchros or that there is a known problem. T45 5speed isnt the greatest to begin with though. Solid trans for stock but definitely want to swap a t56 into it. Love your lineup of stangs though👍🏽

Big difference for sure, it woke it up but made 1st very short. Small price to pay for how it feels with the gears.
@@wrenchheadz5384 kind of like my 2016 5.0. It has 3.73 gears which are very snappy but often I'd like a taller first gear. But the short first gear makes it launch hard and without effort
@@JimS870the mt82 is geared alot more aggressive though so them 373 would be similar to 456 on one of these cobras as far as the way the first 4 gears pull. The 5 speeds were geared much longer. 373 on these cobras is crappy. 410 minimum I recommend 430 or 456 na.

What size tires are you running & what drop kit you use?
I have the eibach sportline springs with stock shocks all around. In the front I have Nitto Nt555 265/55/18 in the rear Nitto Nt555 305/35/18. So far no issue at all but I did remove the quad shocks in the rear.
Correction on the front tires, im running 275/40/18.
I own a Cobra 96 which type of flow master is better because this is a 4 v
I think it depends on what you are looking for sound wise and what mid pipe you have BUT in my opinion original 40’s and super 44’s have been the best sounding.

I have the Durban Rovos 18x9 18x10.5 in black chrome. Nitto nt555 275/40/18 in the front with 305/35/18 in the rear. I like the setup a lot. Might go with a little smaller in front next time like a 255 tire but had an awesome deal for these at the time.
