This performance has never sounded better, IMHO. I've always been fond of it, probably because it was recorded on my first birthday! LOL Not sure why I just discovered this one, 4-5 years later. It's a wonderful sounding restoration. Thanks, as always.
Thank you so much for this recording. You've brought out lines I don't think I've heard before. It's an entirely different Mendelssohn 4. Such pathos and fire. I'm crying from the sheer creation of Mendelssohn, and the incredible genius of Maestro Toscanini. May they both be blessed.
I'm in a very Mendelssohn mood as of late, so this makes me happy to see. I forget whether this was uploaded on the other channel, but I'm glad to see it up here. I don't have time to listen to it in full, but I will say the beginning is good fun - as it should be! (Though I'm disappointed as usual by the lack of a repeat, but that's how these older recordings are.)
Since I discovered this restoration over a year ago, it's been my "go to" Italian symphony. This "natural sound" recording is sumptuous, but have to wonder if it might sound even better using current FAR techniques.
