As a former animal shelter worker, its heart breaking
Every day I wanted to bring them all home. Even though I worked at a no kill shelter, sometimes when we faced over crowding that many animals leads to sickness and then they have to be put down unfortunately. Please people get your animals fixed especially cats and always consider adopting rather than shopping for a animal. And animals do realize that your saving them when you adopt them from a shelter

They at least have the money to take them to the vet, give them a good home, buy them decent food for medical issues they may have. Not everyone has to "rescue" a dog just because others were irresponsible and did not spay or neuter them. So many times I say "Oh, what a cute dog" and the person says "Thanks, I rescued her" uhh, okay.. It's so awkward.

I agree, that's the biggest issue many potential adopters face. Unfortunately, many apartment buildings, which houses the majority of LA's population, do not allow pets, especially dogs. We live in a small apartment and we were lucky with our Malinois, but seeing all these Huskies, Shepherds, Mals breaks my heart 💔 All beautiful and wonderful dogs that were unfortunately in the wrong hands with incompetent owners who didn't do research on the breed and probably supported back yard breeding

This is heartbreaking they do not deserve this the city’s should provide more funding to improve adoption services vett people who want to adopt so there is a smaller return rate, provide clean facilities food training etc..for God sakes most of these cities are handing out crack piles ! How much does that cost? Animals should have rights too they serve in wars for us and are service dogs for the disabled they give unconditional love. If these places didn't charge $700 for a dog, and charged a reasonable$250-$300, they might get rid of them faster.
I checked online at my Delaware SPCA for dog adoptions. I was flabbergasted at the prices they wanted to charge. Not to mention if a dog wasn't neutered they wouldn't let you adopt it. They wanted $700 PLUS another $150 for neutering before you could take the poor thing home. I mean come on.

That's what happened to me. In the US, 60% of people live paycheck to paycheck. As you can see, there are way too many animals without homes so we can't just wait for the wealthy to step up. They just make it much easier for you by putting clear pictures of the pets that they have on their website and organizing information and proper procedures on how to take care of your new pet. @@user-lg8fv1dg3y we euthanize millions of animals a year. If they turned it away someone else would have done it or it would have languished in a cage until it died as the “biting dog.” Shelters have very strict adoption requirements for biting dogs so not just anyone can adopt them. You sound very young. It IS hard to train a dog. It’s very costly , time consuming, and some dogs have higher energy levels or trauma making it harder. It’s just more humane to euthanize than to torture with a low quality life . Also, I think you should know… once my aunt drowned a litter of kittens as a teenager . My mom saw her do it one by one . Their dog also starved to death in the backyard . I’ve had more than one friend lock up their pets in a closet. Animal services does not care cause I called them. There are worse things happening to animals right now than having a peaceful , quick death.
