The problem is there was a primary when the people did vote and it wasn’t for her. How come the party didn’t hold a special primary s the voters could chose a new candidate?
It isn't just that he'd put his request in before, but he'd already been deployed in 2003 to support the mission in Afghanistan and requested retirement after that deployment.
And National Guard units weren't being deployed in combat. His former unit was sent to Kuwait in 2005. I'd similarly ETSed before my units went on stop-loss and later deployed in 2004 doing security and logistics in Kuwait, and friends who were still in the unit said the worst part was boredom. The local paper said they had no losses.
His unit was the 1/125 Field Artillery. It's easy to look this stuff up. It's public records online.
