Fascinating sequence of film... the man interviewed at the beginning was hard to understand... real Devonian. I'd never heard Leonard Elmhirst speak before. The times I've driven past the Dean Prior church knowing there was some connection with a well known poet... now I know who. Thanks for these films... my family came from South Brent though I never visited Rattery.
It was quite a shock to see the interview with Reggie Newlands - he died shortly after this in the Daimler behind him, his daughter Frankie died with him. Coincidentally they rolled the car on the new Dean Bypass featured later in this video collection. Reg was a top bloke, I think he was a commercial artist of some kind, I sometimes wonder what happened to his wife after they died. The couple in the church carpark are Mr & Mrs Treeby. Oh, and I was one of the 20 children in the village Mr Hannaford mentions at the beginning.
