Done. Lot's of old AX5s and AMC 2.5L Jeeps still out there! If that's your red 2.5L on the Southern Georgia Jeepers, you have a helluva rig. Love XJs too
Man, you saved my butt this weekend. I finally got around to doing the trans yesterday. I bought a cheap bottle pump from AA, but it was broken and squirted oil everywhere. Of course, I found out AFTER I drained the trans. Used your idea and it went perfectly. Took a little longer, but that's fine, given the dilemma I was facing. Thanks, bud!
Your living the life down in florida,,, just bought a 92'YJ 2.5 up here in freezn rain Wash St. Dont know anything about jeeps lol, thanks for the video it helps
Thanks for posting! Need to do this to an 89 YJ 2.5 I just acquired and started fixing up. Quick question on the ax5. I've noticed there's a little "play" in the shift lever. I can twist it almost a quarter turn (6 o'clock to 9 o'clock position) while shifting gears. I can shift through all of the gears but that "play" can be troublesome while down shifting. Ever seen that before? Thanks in advance!
+Christian Castillo I had a ax5 that had alot of play. It turned out that previous owner cut shifter and extended it and bolted back together...I didn't see it cause shitfer boot covered it up...,..otherwise there is plastic bushing on the bottom of the shifter where goes into trans that goes bad.....have to pull shifter out to check it tho
art garcia I just use 75w-90 gear oil cheap stuff from Walmart........ really a personal preference guys use all kinds from atf to 10w30 motor oil the cheap motor oil....I do alot of water riding so I change my oil all the time
Hi , thanks for the video ! Are you familiar with a noise very much like the noise from the serpentine belt when it’s slipping, actually that’s what I thought it was , but it’s not. The noise is only when driving and in gear , not in neutral , not with the clutch engaged ... thank you so much !!!
Juan Valero hey most likely the noise u r hearing is the throw out bearing squeaking mine has done that before .......you will have to pull transmission to replace it....if you do do it I would do a clutch kit for that will come with all u need to fix it
Juan Valero easy way to check is too drive it and when it making the noise push the clutch pedal just a little if noise changes or goes away it a bad throw out bearing hope this helps ya out
SQUEAKY JEEPS thanks !!!! I’ll try that , I know it goes away when I push the clutch, but haven’t tried pushing just a little , I’m not sure if this started a day after I drove thru heavy rain .. so you recommend changing the clutch full kit ? Probably it’s time anyway
you he front and rear diffs takes 75w-90 just like transmission.....fill till 1/4" below the fill holes on the differentials....the transfer case take ATF automatic transmission fuild fill till 1/4" below the fill hole on that as well
you he as long as u put it in the way it came out it should run but if u put it in and the rotor button wasn't facing right direction it won't start......u need to put engne at top dead center on number 1 cyl. and then check if rotor button pointing at number plug wire on the cap.......if it good check for spark and check fuel pressure
one should never drain anything without first making sure you can remove the fill plug . I don't even change my motor oil without trying the oil cap first If one drains the tran or diff or even oil pan and for some reason cant find or remove the fill plug your screwed
Best showing and explanation of changing AX5 transmission fluid on the internet by far.
+Nathan Kopel Thanks man just trying out the RUclips thing have a bunch more videos of working on Jeep YJs and XJs sub if interested

Whats the ballpark size for the hose?
