- The 231 transfer case should have fluid changed every 30,000 miles or every 2 years, whichever comes first. It is a super easy process as I show in this video.
Red Line ATF:

The fluid used in this video was provided to me Free of charge by Red Line for this demonstration video. I have used Red Line products for many years, long before they ever gave me product.

I just noticed the police chasing him in the intro lol
Haha. Yeah, was funny.
Like always my friend ur videos have saved me yet again on my Xj, just rebuilt my transfer case and this is last step, thank u brother
I just got a 1994 Wrangler (I6 engine with AX-15 trans as well!). Thank you for your videos!
I've just bought a 95 YJ with 300,000km on it. I'm planning to do a full tune up and change all the fluids as soon as the weather warms up. These videos are very helpful. Thanks!
Man I wish someone put together as many good videos for the CJ as you do for the YJ. Keep up the good content.
Thanks man!
Going to attempt this change this weekend, thanks
I know I've said it before, but u really killed it with the intro. 👍🤙🤙
Thanks! We're having a good time here in the shop
Cracked me up :-) and good video too :-)
Great vid! I love the police bit.
Haha! Thanks. It was fun.
I've had my TJ with the 2002 nv2330 trans ... I've changed it 4x in the passed year.. unfortunately I didn't know what I was doing and used redline mtx for $100 the first time trying to fix an issue and it wasn't the cause... So when I changed it again I used regular Lucas... 90w then royal purple 120w and made a big help then once more with Lucas trans slip fix just to see if it helped and it sure did cut noise down!
Glad you got it figured out!
Pretty sure you meant NV3550 (also have an 02) but glad you've sorted it out!
BunnyOfDoom thanks! I wound up changing mine last night too!!! Super easy!
Love it!
Thanks! We had fun.
4:00 what was that lol !!!!! then the bush bit hahaha.... thx for the info buddy.
Haha!

Jeep solid!!!!
Haha
that was good keept me intrested the PO OFFICER WAS A BOOM
Any tips for of the bolts are stuck on ?
Where did you get the pump and what’s it name brand?
Interesting note, in my 02 TJ the drain and fill plugs use a 10mm hex/allen head. Don't think I've ever even seen a 30mm socket!
Yep. Big ole socket
It's a lot of the older ones, my 96 xj has a 30 mm only and I had to go buy a socket for it lol, a lot of newer ones have that hex like yours probably due to people complaining that it's a non standard socket that they have to go buy.
Hey Dale, i noticed you have the same oil mark on the muffler as I do. My slip yoke is leaking. Is that your problem as well? How can I fix that?
I think I have a video on it.
Hey Dale, I heard some people like to put 10W30 synthetic motor oil in the transfer case because it makes it quieter and works quite well . I was just wondering what you thought of that? And Redline makes that product too ! Regards William
I don't think I would risk it. I just use a high quality transmission fluid like Amsoil and rely on the protection of a top quality fluid.
That looks like an awesome ratchet, dude!! What kind is it??
Is it the extendable ratchet? It's a great one! I have it linked in the video description.
Hey, if your Jeep is Manual why you use automatic fluid for the transfer case fluid?
that is the required oil for the TC. The manual trans is MT90 GL4.
What if my t case fluid was never changed? Should I do it?
Absolutely. It should not hurt for any reason to have fresh fluid. Use a high quality fluid and take your time to let all of the old stuff drain out.
If it's less than 100k I wld shouldn't be a problem and do the diffs too you can just pump them out instead of removing covers if you don't feel comfortable
I always figured the Po-Po would catch up with you eventually...
shh... they're on to me..
Hi.how can i get a jeepsolid stiker?
I'll get one to you. They are $5. Email me at dale@jeepsolid.com and I'll send you an invoice. Thanks!
Ok
If you ever have too much Red Line stuff...feel free to send some my way... That reminds me... I should probably do this in the next few months...
Sure thing. Haha. Last on the fluids will be differential fluid change. That uses up my Red Line product.
Wait transfer case!?! Ive never changed that!?! I thought that only worked when you used 4x4!?! No????? Cuz mine has 110000 on it now but it's all road miles in 2wd!?!
Yeah, transfer case is always turning..
I thought the same thing! I have a TJ but I still thought uh-oh. I dont think it ever been changed in my '06.
do you have a pdf file of your
maintenance book?
Ha ha ha the cop god I hope you guys get more subscribers
Hey, thanks!! Be sure to share my video with your friends!!
I hate to let that last quart of D4 go to waste.
So I decided to drain the fluid on the transfer case on my 98 wrangler and it was creamy white colored………
That's a sign of water getting in. Gives it that creamy look
The benefit of slobbering ATF is it'll never rust. Ever see or hear of a rusty transmission
