I have a 94 wrangler with the 4 cyl, when I got it the AX 5 trans sounded like it was grinding all the time, and no reverse. I found a "good deal" on an AX-15 so I ended up swapping that in using the Camaro clutch and the Dakota bell housing. It works, but goes clank clank clank in reverse which I assume is a missing tooth. I bought another "good deal" AX-15 for parts, but the shifter is locked up, so I'm going to try your tip, pop that plug out and see if I can move that gear around. If I'm able to shift it after that, I'll swap it into my YJ and see how it drives. Thanks for this
My shifter retainer broke one of the ears off. I need to locate another shifter. 1984 Jeep Cherokee Chief w/2.8l V6 and a Aisin AX5 5 speed & 4-wheel drive.
My 98 5 speed 4.0 I have 1 through 5 but no reverse Try to go from first to reverse or even put it in reverse and it pops out immediately making a little grinding noise ?

What will cause a noise that sounds like someone dumped a bag of bolts in my transmission, but only when in fifth gear? My guess was the 5th gear retainer clip, but I pulled the shift tower and rod and can see that the retainer is still in place.
I have a 99 Jeep Wrangler 4 cylinder 2.5l. I was driving down the highway in 5th gear and suddenly I lost 5th gear. I shifted down to 4th and it was fine shifted back up and nothing. I also have no 1st, 2nd, 3rd or reverse. I just bought this Jeep a few weeks ago just to use as a toy and I wasn't planning on throwing a bunch of money into it. Do you have any idea what is going on?
Because Jeep Transmissions Suck!!!.....My First Jeep, back in the 70`s I had it rebuilt, and 1 month later, I Cracked it open!!!...After Rebuilding it Twice, and Same Situation, I put in a Chevy 3/4 Ton P/U Trans, and Later the 283 Engine....Trans was Only a 3 Speed, but it had a synchro First Gear!!!...Problem SOLVED!!!!
Are you builder 9094 cause that guy🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️Cause he sent me wrong trans then sent me out another one and that replacement had metal shavings in it🤦♂️🤦♂️

Everything works well except 4th gear is pulsing on fwy. Shift back to 5th and sound goes away. Bearing?
Can you link the gear saver for 5th gear? I have lost 5th gear in a brand new transmission for my 99 Wrangler.

Never mind. Took a close look with a flashlight and the 5th gear set is destroyed

That's super common. Put it in reverse and engage the clutch and then put it in first

Now on my 3rd on shifting into 2nd and 3rd I have to double clutch or hold a few secs after I push in clutch!?🤷🏻♂️
