The ionization decay monitor would suggest that the trapped ghosts lose power over time while in containment, maybe eventually their PKE dissipates completely. So the containment unit has a max capacity, but you only bump up against it when you trap a high volume in a short time.
That's what I thought. _Kingdom Hospital_ posited that ghosts sometimes have to return to the place where they died to 'recharge.' Thus the containment unit prevents them from doing that.
@@nicholastosoni707 That's also a generic theory about ghost in real life. Ghost haunt the place they died and cannot leave for whatever reason. @@ChannelingSpirits Makes sense, but seeing Ray toss the trap shell aside instead of immediately retrieving the canister is odd. Unless there's a more extensive emptying and/or cleaning process involved inside the chute, possibly ridding the canister of any leftover psychokinetic, uh, goo.
@@ChannelingSpirits Back in the early 2000's, some of us in the fan community theorized that the ghost simply passed through the trap cassette once the connection was made to the entry grid and the field was neutralized. Also, it was believed in the animated series that the unit could be expanded with extension vessels of some kind to make sure they had enough space. Unlike the game, which was kinda disappointing, the containment unit wasn't red, if only it was like the Real Ghostbusters. In the ghostbusters universe, assuming this theory is true, and the special bond between negative ions is actually what holds the ghost together then this stuff must be very energetic and would make a hell of a fuel as the special bonds need to be strong to hold together the repulsive alike charges
If the containment unit is essentially a large ghost trap with maintained power source, it seems a bit contradictory in an episode that once 2 entities enter the same trap, the molecules merge and the entities become a new combined ghost. In the containment unit I am thinking that they are stored as one psycho kinetic that grows with each ghost contained until released when the ghosts separate from the collective taking back on their own individual frequency.
If you're talking about "Drool the Dog-Faced Goblin," it's either 1) Ray telling the fortune-teller a lie-to-children as a pat explanation of why they can't get Drool out of the trap, or 2) the capture streams ionized the two of them while they were "attached" to each other.
They never official say. If roughly 500 was the capacity of the two-story tall, renovated unit, I'd guess 100-200 spirits? They were only open for about a month so a capacity of 100 seems likely.
The cartridges are reusable once the ghost is stored. If the system is engaged, the chute can be opened without fear of releasing any ghosts and it can be retrieved. The film simply didn’t show Ray pulling it out.

Still wished they showed how they gain the ghost trap cartridge back after loading it inside containment unit after the ghost is expelled out of it and into the unit.
@@edisont.picard4112 The thing is they always show it by them closing the door with trap still in the slot as if they’re just leaving it. And as they operate the switches and stuff it seems like the trap does go into a different compartment down below.
@@kingbeef66 Well, not counting the cartoon, we've only ever seen it happen one time. As the unit is homemade, it's probably simplest to assume that it isn't too fancy. If you go to empty a trap and there's already a cartridge in the unit, pull it out and toss it in the pile and then put the new one in.
The chute leads to an opening in the wall with the initial laser containment grid. That opening allows the ghost to be sent through to the antechamber while the grid prevents them from exiting immediately. The traps internal electromagnets are turned negative which repels the ghost, pushing it through.
Well the new ghost buster film just made all the hard work over 20years of ghosts and more of them at the end...to top it off how many are gonna escape or witch one in GB2...GB2 ending show a red light which means one is getting out....i can't wait for the new ghost busters 3 to come out I just watch GB2

Winston may have purchased the firehouse after Egon's leaving and before (or shortly after) they abandoned the business.
The first two walls are explained what about the floor and ceiling the other two sides of the whole building not to mention overcrowding equals overpushing putting all of the prisoners outside of the whole system
This felt like a narrative dead end, they catch them and then dump them in the ECU, okay then what? The ghosts just stay there like toxic waste, doesnt end up dissolved or sent to the other side or something.... I always wished they would resolve that somehow

@@ChannelingSpirits I have to say that you did great work on explaining the Proton Pack and the Containment Unit 👍
Will you be covering the lore of the Slime Blower, Dark Matter Generator and the Meson Collider too?
@@argent-wolfman90 We are editing the PKE Meter as we speak. The physics for the all the equipment has been worked out, and we will get to the Slime Blower and GB:TVG pack upgrades eventually.
@@ChannelingSpirits keep up the great work :) 👍🐰
Egon: this is a high voltage laser containment system
2:47 as a person who believes that not All Ghosts aren't evil. I was VERY Offended. As someone who loved watching Ghostbusters as a kid, seeing how just BEING a Ghost is enough a reason to be Captured is rather unfair
Well, following the way actual exterminators work, only mischievous or downright evil ghosts are actively hunted and captured.
Being very offended that fictional ghosts have been slighted is quite a psychological condition.
@@edisont.picard4112 I wrote this a long time ago. I gotta say, I cringe a bit by what I used to type online. I'll might have to delete this comment.
Don’t forget about the diaphasic isointermagneutralizer which re-phases ectoplasmic molecular bonds at 16 picocycles per kilowatt, preventing any ectoplasmic residue from remaining in the muon trap initiator and re-manifesting as an identical copy of the original captured entity. 👻👻
Wait, their containment unit is 10 MEGAWATTS?! AT 220 VOLTS?! That means they have 45,000 amps running through the powerlines!
... I swear this was covered in Jurassic Park.
Any Nightmare Before Christmas on the horizon?
We hadn't thought about it but we'll have to look into it!
Oh, that would have been AWESOME
Why did they change the script ?
I would have loved to have them using an abandoned gas station secretly.
Oh, that would have made the story so much better.
In Frozen Empire there's a Hole where the Containment System and it gets worst during the Events of the Movie! I think in the end it gets Fixed!
So, it’s like a very complicated jail, but for ghosts.
Yay i was the 1000s like 👍 😄 ☺ 😊 😅 🤗 👍
Light is green, trap is clean
When I was a kid, the containment unit was basically seen as ghost-hell.
I like how they made their assistant played by Annie a lot sexier
For the next video Heidi, tell us about the twinkie.
What about the twinkie?!
@@Seriona1 ''it would be a twinkie, about 35 feet long and weighing approx 600 pounds'', that's a big twinkie.
@@olliesmith2890 That's a big twinkie.
@@olliesmith2890 That is a *BIG TWINKIE*
the Cartooon had Egon discuse how to solve the problem of catianore not holding enough ghost by sending them to a ghost diminsion
"Transtator." Nice Star Trek reference lol
Does the containment unit require a limit of ghosts? Or infinite?
Still wished they showed how they gain the ghost trap cartridge back after loading it inside containment unit after the ghost is expelled out of it and into the unit.
You open the door and pull it out.
It would have been a magnetic containment system, like a warp drive
Sorry, whats behind the pannel? And how does the ghost go out of the trap if there is a wall infront of it?
The chute leads to an opening in the wall with the initial laser containment grid. That opening allows the ghost to be sent through to the antechamber while the grid prevents them from exiting immediately. The traps internal electromagnets are turned negative which repels the ghost, pushing it through.
Laser containment system
But what happens to the trap after the ghost is released into the containment unit ??
You forgot one subsystem of the containment unit : the warpdrive 😄
I'm not smart enough to dispute any of this so I'll take your word on it lol
Do info on Danny phantom or scooby doo
Well the new ghost buster film just made all the hard work over 20years of ghosts and more of them at the end...to top it off how many are gonna escape or witch one in GB2...GB2 ending show a red light which means one is getting out....i can't wait for the new ghost busters 3 to come out I just watch GB2
So when they lost the fire house in the new movie. Where did the containment system go or did they release them all lol
Based on the second end credit where Winston revisits the firehouse, the containment unit is there but shown blinking in the red (presumably setting up a sequel where the containment unit does finally shut down). Winston may have purchased the firehouse after Egon's leaving and before (or shortly after) they abandoned the business.
Bill Murray sounds just like Garfield.
The animated venkman had the same voice actor as garfield.
he also played Garfield in the live action version of the movie and the Cartoon Network animated series if I’m not mistaken
@@spartida3850 lorenzo music voiced garfield & peter vankman in the real ghostbusters cartoon & ironically bill murray voiced garfield in the movie
I always preferred the term storage facility. I disagreed with they changed it.
The first two walls are explained what about the floor and ceiling the other two sides of the whole building not to mention overcrowding equals overpushing putting all of the prisoners outside of the whole system
I heard it.
Never understood why a shut-off switch ever existed. Why would they ever need to release all entities?
Because it is a piece of electrical equipment. It has to have a means of disconnect.
This felt like a narrative dead end, they catch them and then dump them in the ECU, okay then what? The ghosts just stay there like toxic waste, doesnt end up dissolved or sent to the other side or something.... I always wished they would resolve that somehow
